    Hi J.Hallam, really enjoying learning from your videos but just a small critique if I may on your explanation of the operation of a thermocouple. Heat energy is not sent to the mag valve via the thermocouple. The thermocouple is a bi-metallic tube. One type of metal on the inside another on the outside, the inside metal will expand more quickly than the outside which causes the two metals to be squeezed very tightly together and this causes a flow of electrons (EMF). This Electro Motive Force flows down the metal tubes to the termination at the end inside the mag valve. This EMF usually between 15 - 30 mVdc depending on type and size, is enough to hold in the mag valve and therefore allowing gas to flow from the valve to the appliance. This EMF will flow as long as heat is applied and stops when the two metals contract to their at rest state. Sorry to butt in and I'm sure you know this already but there are others who may have taken your minor your slip up literally and be confused. Keep up the good work.

    This is my point! Why didn't you remove fire box to check catchment space is of correct size, the flue is also the correct size and there are no holes or air vents be Ind fire. I assume you mean 100cm2 unless the mi say otherwise, would of thought you would have made a point of the air vent in your video. The coal layout should be to the mi not always as you found them( might not have been put back properly by previous person) should also remove the burner and clean!

    Excellent lecturer. Drilled in my brain!!!! just wondering I did not see the date badge at all. Shouldn't that be ID'd according to regulation.

    technically need to remove and inspect seals and clear any debris buildup and do a flue flow test and check pipe is wrapped and has a base lintel etc check the loft space if applicable not that many bother 😅

      Yes they always leak where they convert to pre cast to twin wall, soon be items of the past

    How do you know the proper coal layout? Air vent for a dfe? Check catchment space? Bs or kite mark?

      @warriorsofwarmth  7 лет назад +1

      tony brinklow the catchment is down to regulations Dfe fires are rare now but really need around 100cm3 the coals shud be repositioned using MI as incorrectly placed my cause carbon monoxide issues
