Three drummers, three percussionists, three guitarists, two trumpets, a soprano sax, bass clarinet, four keyboardist, a violinist, and a bass. Most of these guys were in college together and the band was formed in the early 2000s. It group defies categorization and can play ANY style of music EXTREMELY well.

I love how, even though Snarky Puppy is kind of a Band/Collective, the songs are not exclusively written by Michael League (the bassist, who founded the band). This song for instance was composed by Mark Lettieri (one of the guitarists), and you can clearly hear the influences from his own music, which I also highly (!) recommend listening to! This guy oozes funk like only few others

Instruments are awesome....But, the engineering is beyond comparable trying to deal with 19 instrumentalists in a tight your room with other human movement just is mind blowing. as a a band sound guy for many bands/PROG/Steven Wilson/Pink Floyd/YES ..etc Guy ...I JUST LOVE SNARKY PUPPY on any given day..Thanx for the review even though I'm just 8 months getting back here.

As a jazz/hip-hop/soul/funk head, and being from the Bay Area, I’m rather ashamed I became a Metallica fan way too late in life lol. But when I finally got hip to bands like Lamb of God, The Mars Volta, and Tool via my musician friends, my eyes were finally open! I’m a keyboard-bass player and around the mid-2000s, I filled in for my friend’s metal band and MAN was it one of the funnest gigs ever! We caused a huge mosh-pit during our set and coming from a mostly tame and tasteful setting, that was such a new exhilarating experience for me. I’m just always happy when fans of two very differenct powerhouse genres of music can appreciate each other. The best music comes from when something like this collides!

Lowkey...I needed this. Metal is my thing, but I have so much respect (mainly because I WISH I could do this myself) for these compositions. Excited that Mark Lettieri wrote this one (his guitar is sick and I wish I had it), I don't know if it's his style or not but this song SLAPPED! I hope one day I can play like this, maybe force myself to write riffs with a clean tone...idk...
(my father-in-law introduced me to Snarky Puppy awhile back and I owe him)

Dude, you gotta check out Thank You Scientist. They're a prog rock jazz fusion band on Claudio from Coheed and Cambria's record label. They have a lot more rock and metal influences and are definitely more up your alley. I'd check out either FXMLDR (super catchy) or Life of Vermin (a little heavier). If you like Protest the Hero or Coheed and Cambria you'd probably like them a lot.

Have you ever heard of a band called Onesidezero? They came out with an album in 2001 called “Is This Room Getting Smaller”. If you’ve never heard of it, I’d love to see a reaction to it. One of the most underrated albums I’ve heard, deserves much more attention than it gets.

This group is amazing. Enjoyed this track and your reaction, but it wont be featured in any of my playlists. Slow, dark and repetitive. Felt more like a Jam session to me.
Should you wish to explore super complex compositions that are still catchy / groovy as hell, everything from the "we like it here" album is gold,
also "Bet - Snarky Puppy" is a new tune recently released that is WAY more catchy. :)
