Toxapex is mostly only good defensively, and while it definitely excels in that area, it doesn't have a lot else going for it. If you're talking about how well a Pokemon does in the playthrough of a particular game, Primarina has Toxapex pretty solidly beat, both due to having mostly strong match ups against every major battle in the game, and also by way of being far easier to get your hands on to use, seeing as you have to get a Corsola to SOS for the chance to encounter a Mareanie

Gyarados is on here cuz it's basically good in all stages of the game when it fi all evolves from a magikarp, even post game. This thing helped me out so much in the battle frontiers and the PWT. Yeah it's 4x weak to flying but besides that this thing is a monster
Gyarados was the reason I didn't struggle with Sabrina as much as many others. It's tanky enough to survive an attack from Alakazam while the latter dies immediately from a hit from Gyarados.
I agree with pretty much all of these except gen 5, although its close I gotta give it to jellicent. Super slept on mon I think a lot of people forget about, water/ghost with access to cursed body and despite being a two stage actually has the same base stat total as sizemitoad, except imo much better stat distribution. Plus although sizemitoad isnt bad, pretty much every are other water/ground type option already available is better than it so yeah definitely would say jellicent for gen 5. Honestly slept on gen as a whole though

I can’t believe there’s actually people who think blastoise is better than gyrados 😅 when blastoise base stats stand at 530 and gyrados stand at 540. Blastoise has weak attack, sp attack, hp, and speed compared to gyrados. Blastoise stats are more focused on its defense and sp defense while gyrados has incredible attack, really good hp and sp defense, and decent defense and speed.Also Blastoise defenses won’t work on an adamant nature gyrados that knows dragon dance. I honestly even think gyrados is the strongest water Pokémon in general and it’s not even a pseudo legendary or starter. And it’s even stronger if you find it with its hidden ability moxie. Give it a life orb and it’s so OP one shot any Pokémon( of course that’s not legendary). I mean idk it’s been awhile since I’ve played with blastoise cause I always seem to choose Charizard on the remakes 😂I’m so used to playing with gyrados that I know how to make it really strong with right moveset I need to try it with blastoise next time. 😊

I would say empoleon would be the best for sinnoh, as water/steel type is quite good, and it has always been quite useful It used to run things like specs hydro pump It also got flip turn, roost, knock off, etc in gen 9, which gives it more of a niche Floatzel is fine offensively, but its just weak enough to not be able to survive many somewhat offensive mons, and it doesnt really hit the many grass or dragon types for anything (Edit: Tera water wave crash under rain 2hkos toxapex through resist, ohkos many good mons and outspeeds in swift swim what)

Im willing to argue ludicolo and milotic have swampert beat as best water types. Ludicolo with the grass and water typing give it good coverage and advantage against certain types tat would normally leave a water type defenseless. Like grass and electric. His ability swift swim is also pretty nice. Also against swampert ludicolo would mop him. Milotic has good Sp def and can learn recover along with having decent special attack so its a bulky sp def pokemon that can heal itself and dish out a nice ice beam/surf.
