    Dear Sir,
    I am not clear about dimensions.
    What is correct from below -
    n degree of freedom = n dimensions for 1 particle ?
    Or,
    n degree of freedom = 1 dimension for n particles ?

      (a) Consider the dynamics of a particle with zero constraints. The physical space has 3 dimensions at most for every single particle. So, the one-particle system has 3 degrees of freedom (DoF). This means a two-particle system will have 6 DoF, and an n-particle system will have 3n DoF. (b) If k-number of constraints are present, then the DoF will be reduced by k. Therefore, an n-particle system with C-constrains will have is 3n-k DoF. (c) All DoF in the above are translation DoF. The rotational degrees of freedom will be explained in the following lecture.
