Thanks a lot for this. I can tell you put a lot of hard work into it, even though it’s just a labor of love passion project. I’m honored to have been featured here.
Finally got around to watching this video, and great job man. My introduction to THPS speedrunning was watching you play Underground 1 back in 2014 and those were great times. Years later Adelyn's twitter post about her sub 6 would pop up for me on twitter and i checked out the run. Thought the popoff was very wholesome, and i love watching short hyper optimized runs
Big Rick sharing some love. Great to see speed run folks spreading hype to other speed runners. Thank you both for this type of content. I love long form speed run content!
Manuknighted was the biggest reason why I got into speedrunning thps. It's amazing to see how far the game and community have come since watching him beat the SDA time all those years ago.
Your speedruns would always come up in my recommendations tab over the years so it's nice to see you do a video essay on your favorite series. Would love to see other games get covered.
Before I started this video I watched a 6:42 100% speed run of this game. I’ve always been a casual gamer, and the Tony Hawk series has always been my favorite. One of my favorite things to do as a teenager was 100% run this game, it was never at the competitive level but I’m proud of myself for how many of the strategies and shortcuts I found by myself without the internet. This is the first I’ve heard of a community around this and it’s really cool to see how many people are so passionate about my favorite game!
Excellent video. Congrats dude. Love the thps games but never cared about speedrunning. And there I was last night just wanting to watch a 10min video before sleep, found this gem and went to sleep 1:48hs later lol.
Great video. While I’ve never followed the community super closely (the closest I got is being apart of the Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure community), I have watched numerous runs of this game over the years and they have always been super impressive and a lot of fun to watch. This video does a great job at explaining the game, the runs/their evolution and the stories behind the runners. An excellent watch overall.
i saw this in my feed, scrolled through to see if by any chance there was a moment showing my name on the 100% leaderboard, and was not disappointed! i had a fun (if brief) time running the game in 2015-16, and i'm excited to catch up on history when i have the time to watch the whole documentary!
Been subbed for a while homie I hope this gets traction looks like it wasn’t easy to edit and took a shit ton of man hours wish you all the best this is a gun watch so far.
Tony Hawk is one of my favorite game franchises of all time. I played THUG1, 2, and THAW endlessly on my GameCube growing up. I eventually dipped into the earlier games as well and love them just as much. 1+2 was great! I haven't played THP8 or PG, heard mixed things on them. It's amazing to see a speedrun history on it. TH speedruns always looked insane and the history is rather interesting. I hope we see the future games as well!
Comment#2 I'm so pumped I found this hidden gem of a video. Brother you have made my night!!! I hope you get the recognition you deserve here on youtube.
Holy SMOKES this was an awesome video. It also reminded me how the Double Hardflip in THPS1 is a mess no matter how you want to define a double hardflip LMAO
incredible video! i love seeing the evolution of the route and tricks like this :) would you consider covering any of the other entries in a similar fashion?
Thank you! Going to give myself a bit of a break, but I definitely wouldn't mind tackling THPS2 and THPS3 in the near future. THPS4 onwards is when it will get crazy, but we'll get to it when we get to it lol
Man this brings back memories. I played on ps1. I remember being able to complete all the goals(challenges?) in 1 run. On several different levels. If I remember correctly as long as you kept a truck going like grinds or nollie. The level wouldn't stop. I didn't know about speed running back then. I legit speed ran getting all the goals constantly. I played the sh!t out of this game.
wow this is a good video, but omg it's quiet! have my volume nearly double it's usual value atm... keep it up tho this is a very good format for these kind of videos :)
It’s nice to see a speedrun game that isn’t just a series of glitches/skips. With the exception of the soft reset minor time save this game is 100% about playing the core game w/ skill. There’s barely a gap between TAS & the WR.
@@MR.__G i should clarify that i mean glitches/skips that have a luck factor say a trick that only works 20% of the time. That’s just a super reset heavy game.
Fair point! Some setups seem to be fine (like mine, otherwise I would've boosted it more before it went live), but I've heard from others that the audio (especially music) can be difficult to hear at times. Just small stuff to improve on for next time :)
great video I never really did any speedruns of the THPS series besides F Eric, I’m generally new to its community. I started off by playing DESA on my PS2 and Xbox and the first THPS on an N64 at McDonalds at a very young age. I also learned how to skate as a child, although never really did any good things besides luging off a bowl. I then got back into the series with THPS 1 + 2, and THUGPRO. From there, I learned more about its tech and wanted to speedrun one of the games. I decided to run THUG2's classic mode, since the tricks are more lenient compared to older games of the series. I will attempt THPS1, but its jankiness will take several thousands of attempts to get used to.
Amazing video! Thanks! I wonder when will someone finally speedrun Project 8 PSP Classic Mode 100%. It is very hard to complete legit without cheats, save stats, buttslaps & focus mode but for speedrun you would of course want to use all of the available & allowed tactics. There could be separate Amateur 100%, Normal 100%, Sick 100% categories and also "Amateur, Normal & Sick 100% in one run" category.
This is a good video, but 15 minutes in, I notice it is silent. You definitely need to put something in the background so it's a little less monotone. But you have a good voice for this kind of thing.
Yup! I didn't find a good place to put it, but NTSC version 1.1 onwards was called Tony Hawk's Skateboarding (for some reason). PAL regions were already calling it Tony Hawk's Skateboarding. Besides the name change, there are very, very, very few differences, especially in a speedrun setting.
6:23 I recognize that image. TheAmazingJordo is using longmont potion castle 9 album art as his avatar. Dude has good taste, gonna have to hit him in the lip with a tennis racket.
I do find speedrunning cool. But i also find it funny how these guys talk about it like it was some great professional sports career they had. very spinal tap esque.
So just to be clear...the final record... which if there's a fascination with playing fast that's cool...takes the amount of time it takes to read a page?
gg, i only know adelyn and kamikaze - and at least you guys have a history, many games dont really have any progress, its easy to score high or else its rng-luck fest (like in Vigilante 8 Second offensive that im playing since 43 days)
There was music throughout the video. Depending on your audio setup, you can hear them better than others; this is already something I will work on for the next video. As for the audio pauses, there were several of them through the video (especially around milestone PBs/WRs). I didn't see the point at adding more, especially since my style is more informative than straight entertainment.

This one goes hard, amazing work, Packle!
Amazing video! So crazy to see my name in a speedrun history video
Idk I do hear you're actually Amazing,Jordo
Godamn the nostalgia of this. Me and my buddy, 11 years old. Terrible nu-metal in the background. Endless thps1. Great video!
terrible nu-metal? go look up the tracklist of thps1!
i remember chilling and watching those late night races between guished, remedy, and manu back in the day.. crazy to think about how long ago that was
You guys made it so much fun. thank you for hanging out and being apart of it
Your speedruns would always come up in my recommendations tab over the years so it's nice to see you do a video essay on your favorite series. Would love to see other games get covered.
Thank you! Definitely am planning on some more in the future :)
Thank you for making this. Fantastic video
This deserves a lot more views, really good in-depth work, I'd love to see the other games in the series!
Incredible video, even though we're getting older all the time, this game always makes me feel younger in my mind.

Cheers ThePackle,

What a great video, it's clear the passion that everyone has for THPS
This is a community I did not know I needed to be a part of right tf now. God I love this.

Underrated channel - this must've taken so much effort to make and is very enjoyable!! Give this man a sub, he deserves it!
been playing the game forever but new to the community, thanks for this video! it's right up my alley
thx for the effort. Gonna watch this over 3 or 4 evenings. great video. something the internet definetly needed ;)
Hearing about Disco reminds me of speedrunning Perfect Dark and Goldeneye in the early 2000s what an era!
This is so well put together! Great quality and you can tell you did a ton of research.
Saving this for work tomorrow. Thank you !!!
This is the content I been waiting for! I need more Tony Hawk stuff!
incredible video! i love seeing the evolution of the route and tricks like this :)

only 2 mins in and i can tell THIS IS MADE WITH LOVE!
Great video! Please continue the THPS content Id love a full series!

I always prefer glitchless runs.. and skips that require skill that will make or break your run
It goes to show how well the game is designed.
@@MR.__G i should clarify that i mean glitches/skips that have a luck factor say a trick that only works 20% of the time. That’s just a super reset heavy game.
@@froston4 lol I messed my wording as well. Meant to say glitchless runs. I do enjoy seeing skips that require skill / good RNG.
This video somehow has now given me just as much respect for glitch hunters as I do for speed runners
So cool that Nathan Fielder got into some Speedrun shit
I'm sure this took so much time and effort, really great video
I hope to god you do one about pro skater 2 3 and underground 1
Dude you're a THPS legend but this video needs its volume boosted by 200%
Fair point! Some setups seem to be fine (like mine, otherwise I would've boosted it more before it went live), but I've heard from others that the audio (especially music) can be difficult to hear at times. Just small stuff to improve on for next time :)
I’m a super casual, but glad to see this video. Great video man
love speedrun history videos. hell yeah
I'm looking forward to more stuff! Good shit homie
aight now lets see this get 10 million views
great video

Incredible subculture. Thank you
when i see nahoc twice in the opening credits of a video, I know I'm about to have a very good time
hoping to see this video succeed!!
I remember this game being called Tony Hawk's Skateboarding, not Pro Skater.
And i was pretty good in it back in days (1999).

This video must've been a grind to make!
amazing content thank you so much
I wanna watch this rn but the audio is so quiet for me-
this but whole series pls
Playable during Demo Mode? Major Petscop vibes.

very well done!

I smoked so much weed while playing this game. But also while doing everything else
sick
Not bad, Add some more music next time? Felt a little empty and you can spice up the "next big thing" with audio pauses
There was music throughout the video. Depending on your audio setup, you can hear them better than others; this is already something I will work on for the next video.
