I relive my rides through your videos, so keep it up! I also love this ride, although day 1 was extremely wet this year. Still, RSVP is my favorite ride of the year. One thing we did to warm up a bit was stop at the Snohomish Bakery and in Arlington. (Oosterwyks Dutch Bakery?) There was also a mini stop outside Arlington along the trail where they had one port-o-potty, a fire pit, and free hotdogs. That also saved us. It definitely was a "heads down, get it done" kind of day until it stopped raining.
Also rode RSVP this year, it was soaking and cold! I could pick up my foot, point my toes and have water drip out of my shoes to make a puddle. nice video, but I agree, it hardly does justice to how wet it was out there on day one!
Kudos to everyone for sticking to it on this epic ride in difficult conditions! Anyone who's lived in WA for any length of time knows that August guarantees nothing where the weather is concerned! 🤣
Good on you! I started the ride on day one but was so soaked after 10 miles and wasn't having fun. Made it back to the start and drove to B'ham (volunteering along the way at rest stops). Rode the second day and had a great time.
Reminds me of mid-school bike commutes on rainy days. LOL. I was hoping organizers of STP, STV, RAMROD, Hurricane Ridge Climb to move the rides to Jun/Jul when the climate is friendlier.
Dang! Congrats on sticking with it! I def would have dropped out if I had signed up. But I guess once you’re wet, you can’t get more wet also - I rode from Green Lake to Anacortes and on to the west side of San Juan on a clear day and indeed I had a head wind the WHOLE TIME :)
Great video. I was just there Tuesday before official RSVP. Since COVID Cascade Club do not offer Fri/Sat RSVP so I do my own. It rained on my ride to the Sounder Station Tuesday morning - but that's all. I took the Sounder from Auburn to Seattle, then Light Rail to UW, from UW rode to Lynden, WA to spend the night. Wednesday finished in Vancouver, BC, and the next day took the Amtrak back to Tukwila, WA and rode 15 miles to finish at home.
Never did RSVP. Did STP a few times back in the 90’s. Was always a one day rider. At times that rain looked brutal. But there comes a point where you are just soaked and it does t really matter anymore. Loved the report and the positive attitude of the group even in such bad conditions. Not what you are thinking when you sign up. I can relate though as I did RAMROD one year back in the 90’s and it was like around freezing and sleeting up at Paradise in July. Almost got hypothermia coming down. Box canyon climb was a welcome warm up.
You should check out the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in spring. My daughter and I missed it by two weeks in 2022, they had already plowed the fields. While riding there I kept thinking this feels familiar. We rode part of it during RSVP 2015. Yes, it also rained a bit in 2015.
I was out on Sat on a SAR mission looking for a missing hiker in the Mountain loop area -- I think it was better going through the brambles in the heavy rain than riding :). Way to stick it out. You know it's wet when you wear rain gear and still get your underwear soaked..
Not the rainiest. There was an edition in the mid 2000s that was just as bad the first day. I was one of the first to Bellingham because I couldn’t spend any more time behind riders without fenders I had fitted them the night before and seemed to be one of the few.
Every time I ride route 9 - dozens of times by now - I swear it will be my last. Shoulders are microns wide and the number of discarded beverage containers strongly hints that the vehicles with whcich you are sharing the road are not... from the same tribe as recreational cyclists. F350s and Dodge Rams abound. But you gotta go where you gotta go and route 9 is the only choice for many routes.

Nice. I did that ride in 1984, my first multi-day ride. We had nice weather, but the distances tested my limits.

August is a lot dryer and warmer on average than June. Just got a rare bad day in August. It happens
@@sdanjohn I agree. Sometimes can get toasty or even smoky. For high output sports, cooler is better.

That sounds like an awesome ride! Having done the route by myself as well it's definitely a nice one.

My favorite quote around cycling is "the hardest mile is the one out your door". Once you're pedaling it's all fun from there for me!
Looks like Chilly Hilly level of wetness, but much warmer, kudos man
@@leshy_hey our most recent chilly hills haven't been too wet (certainly a lot colder) we'll see what the next one has in store.

I've definitely been but never on a bicycle :) That's a great idea.
Hey! Good to see you at one of the rest stops! You know how to tail gate, 😂
Big props to abc Seattle!

I rode the same day in BC for the first day of the Tour de Cure. It sure was a wet one!
Ooo I've heard of this ride. Definitely need to try it some day
It was so fricking wet. I have only just now finally gotten dry again.
@@jeremycole2036 it was the first time I soaked through my shake dry and winter jersey
I just put fenders on my bike today. Now we’re sure to have a dry September 😅
I just need it dry for best side summits! Pleaseee!
@@BestSideCycling 🙏🏻 the reward for a climb should be a fun descent, not a white knuckle skidfest
Were you on this ride as well? How did it go? What was your wettest ride ever? How do you think Jasmine did on her first day of RSVP!?
I spent that day scuba diving and probably got less wet than the RSVP riders.

i thought you were gonna use your brompton for RSVP.
@@jimli1586 😭I chickened out due to the rain and made it an extra comfy experience. I'll 100% be on my t line for the Granfondo next week
I probably would have just give up when I see how wet it was…
