    The crew cab is going to get torn down this week to prep it for paint. Stay tuned for those videos. If you haven't seen my Crew Cab 1st gen check out this video: ruclips.net/video/TRCG3nKTUUo/видео.html

    Planning very shortly on doing a 727 to 47RH swap in my 1990 1st Gen as well.
    I have a bunch of three-terminal button switches with the built-in ON indicator LEDs in them. I already rewired my cargo light circuit to function as my dome light switch, and would like all my dashboard switches to match. They're supposed to be rated for 20 amps. Do you think this would be a problem?

    • @decentgarage
      @decentgarage  3 месяца назад

      I don't know exactly if that will be a problem. If you are worried though just run the switch through a relay, then the relay will take all the load and they handle it way better than the switch

    I dont care about locking out overdrive. If i discondct the switch will it go into OD? Its locked out now and so 50 mph is 2000 rpm.

  • @shaunslankard5596
    @shaunslankard5596 3 года назад +3

    @decent garage . I’m a little confused so do you cutt both wires for OD and lock up and run them to separate switches then run a ground to each switch?

  • @ctraindosa675r4
    @ctraindosa675r4 2 года назад +1

    K it says pigtail wire for overdrive. What exactly do you mean? Mine is spliced and not cut clean through it’s just added to the circuit. I don’t think that’s right idk who did it previous owner or mechanic trying to be handy

  • @alfalpha9735
    @alfalpha9735 4 года назад +1

    To if the tailgate there’s a plastic piece that was supposed to anchors the linkages from the handle to the loft mechanism, unscrew the three bolts holding the handle and on the right side the linkage would be freed up and the plastic piece that should be holding is broken, just bend the metal linkage to fix it. Happened to mine, exact same issue

    • @decentgarage
      @decentgarage  4 года назад

      I'll try that. So you didn't replace the plastic clip? You just bent the rod to hold on to it better?

    How do you wire up the single overdrive wire? 1 ground 1 wire from trans and 12v power on/off? So you add 12v power to the single wire to make it go overdrive?

    What does lock up mean?

    • @decentgarage
      @decentgarage  3 года назад +1

      Lockup is when the torque convertor actually completely and mechanically couples.

      Decent Garage without looking at the transmission how can I tell if my truck is a 46H or a 47RH. It’s a 1993 D250 turbo diesel. 2wheel drive quad cab. Navy blue just like yours.

    • @decentgarage
      @decentgarage  3 года назад +1

      Yours has an a518 (46rh) which does not have a lockup torque convertor. I have a video on diagnosing and fixing overdrive issues.

    • @MSHOOFBEATS
      @MSHOOFBEATS 3 года назад

      Decent Garage I think I watched the video is it the one where you talk about the tailgate and the bumper first? That was very helpful but I have to be able to explain it to the transmission shop mechanic because I don’t work on it myself. I think I just have a wiring issue too because my truck has a little switches all over the place. Right now the phone charger a.k.a. cigarette lighter doesn’t work. He did put a new transmission switch in though so at least my transmission works and I didn’t ruin it. It’s pretty hard when everybody tries to race me ten times daily. I guess I wore my overdrive button out.

  • @calebhillard5718

    couldn't you leave the overdrive on all the time instead of flipping it on and off when your downshifting

    • @decentgarage
      @decentgarage  2 года назад

      No, leaving overdrive in like that will burn up the overdrive unit. If you've ever had OD on a switch and slow down after getting off the freeway you can feel how unhappy it is once you get down in to 2nd gear

    • @decentgarage

      Jim, this is correct. For the 47rh you will need the 2nd gen adapter which is about 1.5" thicker. You will also need a second gen starter.

    Are you still planning on repairing the odometer? Love to see it done. My odometer & trip work fine, but the speedo quit. Do they work independent from each other in the gauge cluster. I replaced the speed sensor in the rear diff, might be the cable off the T-case, but that appears to be secure. Also, my cruise control still works fine, (with the help from Garmin) so that's why I'm puzzled. Thanks.
