Thank you for providing all of us hacks such great, free instruction. I doubt it’ll come across in this comment as much as I mean it, but I really appreciate your videos and thank you!
I wanted to add to my last comment on Eric's video on the right shoulder. If you find the ball is still going too high, you are not moving your right shoulder to the left far enough. Also, when trying this with your driver for the first time, try choking up about 3 inches. I found this helps to get the right shoulder down. Thanks again Eric. You have a gift for explaining things.
Absolute game-changer of a drill. Eric, you talk about getting other things “for free” when doing certain things well and this drill dramatically helped my: Early Extension, weight shift, low point, ball compression, early release (flip). Where were you 30 years ago?!! Cheers! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Hi Eric as Hogan might say if you don’t mind let’s simply talk about the entire swing when comes to both our shoulders and the crunching our obliques as we swing our club. So without a doubt tilt, crunch and turn is required in every golf swing and so we need to activate our obliques in order to do this. Correct? Simple put as the right shoulder goes up on the backswing, the lead shoulder goes down resulting in the perfect lead side bend crunching our obliques; and, then on the downswing as the lead shoulder goes up, the trail shoulder goes down resulting in a perfect trail side bend crunching our trail side oblique; and finally at the end of the our swing both shoulders level off together shutting off our obliques altogether thus allowing us to stand up presenting the perfect pose to the classic swing. At age 74 I recently discovered for myself that by using my shoulders activating and crunching my obliques correctly my entire body responds correctly and my golf swing is that much simpler. Cheers
Dude, thank you for this! I’ve fought a big hook for years losing my trail side bends right before impact, and couldn’t figure out why. This is so simple but it makes all the sense in the world. Thanks, Eric!!
My shoulders were way too flat or level at impact causing early extension and hitting thin, toe shots. Even though I rotate plenty, there was no or little side bend to my swing anymore after a few years away from the game. This drill was the missing piece to my swing and was exactly what I needed. Excellent video and description!
Love this video! Never really understood HOW the trail shoulder needed to move during the swing. Never saw this in any golf videos before. This may be the key to improving my swing and help eliminate my over the top fat shots. Thank you again for informative and simple golf tips.

@@CogornoGolf Still hooking but only with driver. Every other club is flush. Do you think ball position may be a little too far forward and/or the tilt could be over done?
Great drill! I suffered from a severe case of Early Extension, and I feel like practice this drill every day helps stretch muscles I haven’t used in awhile. At first I was concerned because I have two herniated discs in my back and initially this was aggravating them, but it was the muscles around them that had stiffened up over the years trying to “protect me” that were causing the issue. The more I practice stretching with this drill the looser they become. One question. I sometimes leave more of the grip end on the left side so I can practice getting the grip pointed out the ball, before doing tho opposite with the club face end. My question is this too much of an exaggeration and would you recommend I not continue doing that part. I was just trying to simulate footwork helping promote a push/pull coordination. Thanks 😊

Eric, this drill feels much easier to do successfully with an open stance. What's your opinion on this. I always feel like I'm running out of right arm in the downswing and making poor contact,
I'm perfectly OK with that IF you get the ball flight you are looking for. If you can start it where you want and curve in the direction you want (without losing any distance) that's perfectly good!
Hey there! If your trail shoulder has too much DOWN (side bend) and not enough FORWARD (rotation) in the downswing, that can lead to pushes and hooks. I think this video will explain it best! ruclips.net/video/N8WUtSPniXk/видео.htmlfeature=shared Let us know if this helps and if you have any questions after watching👊
Shit I'm all over the place listening to you guys. Go out hit the ball clean, far next week I'm shanking, hitting it fat, hooking it , seems to me when I put the old grip it and rip it into my bag I smash 178 yard 7 irons, bomb beautiful driver draws, and feeling loose. You dudes make me feel like a pretzel wrapped in a snare drum
Nice!!! Either A) stop doing it B) throw a box outside of the ball when you do it to get club head path correct: ruclips.net/video/DWB0Y-mjsl8/видео.html Of course I would need to see your swing on video to say why this is happening
Yep, when you get that much closer to the ball than you’re used to, and then throw out your Rt arm like you had to before just to make contact (since your shoulder was so far from the ball) you’re going to hit the ball w the hosel.. Gotta preserve some Rt arm bend and extend it towards the target not down at the ball
Moving the right shoulder forward to try and get divot forward results in me shanking. Do you have any comment on this Eric? Perhaps there's not enough side-shoulders are too flat, so throwing right shoulder out too much. I know you would sort it out with one look at my swing but if you could give a couple of pointers I'd appreciate it
Could be several variables Make sure the hand path is working in (left for right hander) through impact Also as the shoulder works forward......the HEAD....DOES NOT Hope that helps
@@CogornoGolf Thanks Eric-I'll take it to the range. I think I may be swaying forward. I could also be holding off on dropping the left arm in an effort to get everything forward (ie slightly OTT) As you say a lot of possible variables
You have failed to note that Adam Scott makes a substantial weight shift before impact, the result of which is that his right shoulder moves substantially toward the target without any rotation or downward movement of the shoulder. It is then that the rotational and downward movement accounts for the last part of the movement of the right shoulder toward the target. Also, one of your drills shows the right shoulder even with the ball at impact, but that actually does not happen in Adam Scott's swing until well after impact.
This is a good tip, but for me, it doesn’t work in isolation. I think people will watch this and start their downswing with the right shoulder in order to get into that position. I guess that’s why the golf swing is such a puzzle - so many thing to fit together.
You are correct, this in isolation might throw you over the top. This is the bi product of other things, like you say just another piece of the puzzle. But if you listen to what Eric says about the left side it can all come together. The left pulls the right down and under.
I agree. Trying to incorporate this move without first getting the left hip out of the way, would be very difficult. The left hip has to move back away from the ball to allow the room for the right side bend to occur.
@@rickcicalo410 funny thing is when you bump left then Rt lateral bend and rotate, your left hip automatically clears out of the way. If you maintain Rt side bend through impact it’s impossible to EE

If your trail shoulder has too much DOWN (side bend) and not enough FORWARD (rotation) in the downswing, that can lead to pushes and hooks. I think this video will explain it best!

Haha understood Leonard---sorry for messing you up! Hope you have a great summer!
working on this gave me a nice case of the shanks
Nice!!!
Either A) stop doing it
B) throw a box outside of the ball when you do it to get club head path correct: ruclips.net/video/DWB0Y-mjsl8/видео.html
Of course I would need to see your swing on video to say why this is happening
Yep, when you get that much closer to the ball than you’re used to, and then throw out your Rt arm like you had to before just to make contact (since your shoulder was so far from the ball) you’re going to hit the ball w the hosel.. Gotta preserve some Rt arm bend and extend it towards the target not down at the ball
And right shoulder position at impact would be a great improvement
Great stuff!!
Thank you!
Moving the right shoulder forward to try and get divot forward results in me shanking. Do you have any comment on this Eric? Perhaps there's not enough side-shoulders are too flat, so throwing right shoulder out too much. I know you would sort it out with one look at my swing but if you could give a couple of pointers I'd appreciate it
sorry "side"=sidebend
Could be several variables
Make sure the hand path is working in (left for right hander) through impact
Also as the shoulder works forward......the HEAD....DOES NOT
Hope that helps
@@CogornoGolf Thanks Eric-I'll take it to the range. I think I may be swaying forward. I could also be holding off on dropping the left arm in an effort to get everything forward (ie slightly OTT) As you say a lot of possible variables
Great session. What software do you use for your drawings on screen?
Thanks, Jack! We use "Analyzr"
Thank you for your feedback, Alan!
I have been trying this for a while now and find make far better contact, only problems is, im in my 70,s and its starting to hurt my back again.
We dont want that!
You are your own best coach, Eric. 😂
:)
Doesn't dropping the shoulder cause you to hit the ball fat?
Nope....have to bend right arm and right right (all good ball strikers drop the shoulder and bend those two)

This is enough for me to send an email to E. I’m in.
:)
Good stuff, Eric. I call this Crunch and Punch :)
Yessir!
Crisp!

Wow i thought all l that shoulder tilt and forward motion happens automatically by turning the hips and swinging the arms. What a light bulb moment.
Glad this one helped, George!
Thanks for the feedback!
Stick to the golf
If it means we keep getting incredibly good FREE golf instruction, then I’m ok w the ads Eric is doing
