Asking Judy about 7- 8 year old Liza going into show business and what advice she’d give her was ridiculous, but Judy skillfully turned it back to the event at hand.
wonderful to hear Judy so so happy! she's just joy on legs here isn't she! Although I may have been cussing at the interviewer trying to put a downer on it for her (and Milton) by bringing up the difficult times - Judy is clearly evading getting sucked into her negativity by skirting round the questions and a sensitive interviewer would have respected that instead of persisting - I wish she could have just celebrated with Judy and let her enjoy her night!
I remember so well when "A Star Is Born" came out in 1954. All of the excitment of Judy Garland returning to the movies. You would have thought that Judy Garland's career would have no more problems. But Judy had so many ups & downs in her career and personal life. She was one of the greatest stars who ever lived, but she paid a dear price for it.
She got robbed, I've always believed that Judy got the votes, but not the Oscar. I'm quite sure that M.G.M didn't want her to win, because they refused to try and get the rights to A.S.I.B. They didn't think she was good enough to play such a dramatic part. If nothing else she showed Metro. She did win the Golden Globe, and something else I think.
Judy was nominated two times for the Oscar. In 1962 she got the first ever Grammy award for her outstanding live album featuring her performance at the Carnegie Hall, 1961.

The interviewer certainly loves to inject negativity into her questions lol
Sounds like Elsa Maxwell might have had Marilyn Monroe in mind in her criticisms.
This interviewer is terrible !
