I remember when this was broadcast live on TV. I recorded it on my VCR and didn't go down the pub that evening because I was too busy playing this video over and over again. RIP Lemmy. You too were Killed by Death!
I too remember the night this was on. It was the week a left school (in December - long story). UB40 has just done a boring set (you can see them packing up in the background on this) and Motorhead came on and tore the place apart. This was first time anyone had heard this song or seen the new line-up. It was a life changing moment. Though how the hell they got from Newcastle at 7pm (where The Tube was made) to Warwick for that night's show I'll never know. Perhaps it wasn't quite as "live" as we thought!
Such a shame Würzel was buried deep in the mix. Phil is an extremely great and versatile guitarist, who did an excellent job, suggested by him self, and approved by Lemmy, to carry all of the guitar duties on his shoulders when Würzel left. And he has definitely grown since 1984 in ability to adopt. But Würzel had a natural bluesy vibe, and some really rocknroll-crazy-madness built into himself that i personally think can not be matched since or before. Lemmy, Fast Eddie and animal taylor had a sound that was unique to them. And Robbo is absolutely the most musically ”gifted”. But I can’t even count the times I rewinded and relistened to the solo between the second and third verse in ”No voices in the sky” when i had saved enough money to buy the 1916 record.
This line up was great. Lasted until 87 before Philthy came back in as drummer. When Eddie left the band after the Iron Fist tour they brought in Brian Robertson from Thin Lizzy but he didn’t last long as he didn’t fit the band. They only did 1 Album with the bloke in 1983. Lemmy and Philthy then had more auditions for a new player and it came down to these 2 chaps, Phil Campbell and Würzel. They couldn’t decide who to pick because Philthy liked Phil cause he played like Brian and Lemmy liked Würzel cause he played like Eddie, so they picked both of them. This line up essentially gives you the best of both worlds in terms of guitarists. It may not be the original line up but this Motörhead 2.0 was in its prime here during 84/85. Definitely one of the best periods of the band.
Geraint Thomas I like the psychedelic-esque sound of the Another Perfect Day album. It may not have been typical Motörhead but it was still definitely a good album, very underrated.
Motörhead war eine großartige Band
Definitely the loudest band I've ever seen, was so fortunate to see the original & this line up.
