This is perhaps the perfect Journey song. It is sad to think that our children will never know what a real band is, real musical genius, real composing, real singing! Holy cow, this song gives me goosebumps and on the verge of tears for witnessing complete and absolute musical madness nirvana, Those drums! guitar!! I wish I could hear the bass because I can tell he was going to town with it... and Oh Steve... Steve, you were you just having fun making it look easy with your supernatural powers... holy cow!
This absolutely a mind boggling artistic masterpiece. I am at absolute awe. I have seen this about 30 times and not getting tired of seeing it. They are all at their prime.
I can hear the bass, its there. Its the heavy booming sound that just blends in with the drums well. This is one of the best guitar riffs I've ever heard and I can't find myself getting tired of it. I wanna learn it on guitar so bad and I can't find tabs for it...so time for really really close observation. Too bad Steve Perry hogs the camera time hahahaha. Amazing band. Oh and I am 19 btw. I know what real bands are and I know when I am looking at fakes who lip sync (aka, this generation of music)
paola P except the lyrics are the worst. They could have been written by a ten year old. Otherwise awesome. Steve Perry is the greatest vocalist I have ever heard. I miss him.
Now I can see what Steve meant when he said Neal had a way of bringing stuff out of his singing and Steve bringing stuff out of Neal's guitar playing! The two of them are musical geniuses!!!
Atwood Stadium, Flint MI. I was there. Pat Benatar, Eddy Money, & Journey. What a day and what a great time, back when Flint was alive and kicking rock!
I stopped in Flint a few years ago on my way from DTW for Alpena. What a S-hole. I live near seattle and it's no peach now either but it beats Flint. Damn, good luck.
No one looks happy in the audience. My friends and bandmates never warmed to this song. But, I love it! It's great! I don't understand the apathy to it.
It isn't apathy, it's Japanese culture. Even Steve Perry asked about it. The audience isn't allowed to stand in your seats, be too loud, or in any way act up too much or security would just haul them out. Any of the other 80s Japanese videos it's the same thing. Don't know what it's like now, but at the time, you weren't ALLOWED to do much but clap.
@@twilitetide I can understand about the audience, given that explanation. But the guys in our band and my other friends were apathetic. I also wanted to do "The Party's Over." I'd just bought the double live album and those were new songs and I liked them both. It's just a difference of preference. If I'd wanted to play Elvis Costello or Talking Heads, they would have loved it. But still, why anyone would want to play "Watching the Detectives" (great song that it is) over "Dixie Highway" I'll never know. I play guitar, so I'm very guitar focused, I guess.
Back in 1982, Captured was my first listen from the band named Journey when I was 12 yo. Still in 2020, Captured is my Monday morning rush hour mood-booster to the office.!
Neil is such great guitarplayer, incredible. I think he also needed a challenge like the incredible singer that Steve was, to compete a bit (in a positive way). I think they all got the best out of each other.
Foolin. Who do you think you’re foolin baby? I love you Steve! This was my jam at 15. The silkiest dark brown hair with angelic vocals that can never be & will NEVER be duplicated.
This Double Live album is without any doubt one of the best live Records ever released! Every song on the album sounds better than the incomparable studio versions! Journey! One of the top 4 American Bands in History!!!
I must say I'm thoroughly enjoying the pre Cain era with Gregg Rolie, and Steve Perry of course. This song is so much fun, wishing Steve would sing again live!!!!
Reading through some comments makes me smile to know that I'm in good company & my feelings for this OUTSTANDINGLY gifted group is shared with the same love!! We were BLESSED to be around when Journey came on the scene & old enough to appreciate their talent! It's up to us as parents & grandparents to introduce the music to all generations & exposing them to all different kinds of genres. Teaching them the love & appreciation for music & true talent!! Journey is & always has been my favorite group since 1st hearing them in 77' & when I saw them for the 1st time in 78' on The Midnight Special, I as many girls did, fell in love with Steve, how could you not!?! He's a hottie
One of my all-time favorite Journey songs. I love the fact this is on one album--the Live album--so suckers that never listen to truly great live music have no idea what they are missing!
When I lived in Florida. I took the Dixie Highway to work. I would put this CD in my car CD player, turn up the volume and open the windows. Always put a smile on my face. Thanks, Steve!
I was on the Dixie highway in my youth on a fly drive holiday with my family and this song came on the radio amazing hey. I didn't know who journey was then I do know Marc 58 yes young
Journey is amazing regardless of the line-up. I saw them twice with Perry, three times with Augeri, and twice with Pineda. I am never disappointed. Perry is the master, no doubt, but he doesn't want to tour any more and his voice is not what it used to be due to all those gruelling years of touring. I saw Perry solo in 1994. It was a challenge for him to get through the entire set, although he was still great. FWIW, I think this line-up (Perry, Schon, Rolie, Valory, Smith) is my favorite.
So many memories of when this came out because it really cemented them as a R and R Band. I had heard them in the summer of '77 just before Steve Perry joined as an under bill @ Soldiers Field Chicago and they were transitioning from a Progressive rock band then. I had heard when Perry joined and Lights and then a couple years later heard this and was like is this the same band ? , because these guys rock now!
I could have lived and died with this ensemble. Ross and the excellent Greg and awesome Steve Smith. These guys were not expendable. They were OG. Per fcking fection.
1980 My girlfriend and I, riding a 1942 WLA Harley Davidson chopper, stopping at every bar on the Dixie highway, having a shot and a game of pool at every bar that had this song on the jukebox. Man, those were some good times. I'm building another bike, a 1969 Harley XLH Sportster, from some boxes of parts, planning on another trip on the Dixie Highway. That song was some kind of inspiration to us then. I hope I regain some of that spirit of freedom on this next ride. Could be my last, ya never know... Back seat's empty... Rock on Brothers and sisters. P.S. Slayer will be in Pittsburgh soon for those of you who might be fans. Lots of good concerts this year. Maybe I'll see you there.
Journey - judged not cool back in the day ( not by me ) but their music stands to this day ❤️ and Steve Perry my lifelong crush with THAT voice - makes me a fan still in 2020. Love me some Journey every day ❤️
Gracias ewer lord por estos vídeos tan lindos me haces muy feliz Nadie tiene estos vídeos sólo tus besos para ti Te sigo todos los días Fans 2018 👥👍👍👍👍👏👏👏
It's actually I-75 that goes from North mich to Florida. But Dixie Hwy runs the same direction for the most part. I've lived off of the REAL Dixie hwy in Oakland Co. MI but it ENDS in Pontiac. Where I was born. I now live in Georgia and I look at I-75 walking into work.
Mine was Skid Row, Pantera, & 'Balls To The Wall' Band! Accept? Had to leave concert, throwing up from Sound Sickness! Then came "The Decibel Meters"! Happy SuperBowl Sunday★
This is the only version of this song I heard. Probably the best one ever. Mentioning Detroit to Japan. Journey gives a crap. Thank you for posting. Rock On!
Neal's opening riff sounds like it could have fit on the first three Journey albums when there were much more prog/jazz fusion. Of course, once Gregg Rolie left that was it for the jazzier and more experimental elements for the band.
not sure I totally agree with that. title track on Escape and Frontiers, Rubicon, Troubled Child...all had elements of fusion/prog in them. I do prefer Rolie though. This was their all time best line up IMO!
What they did & other's back in the day to promote their music was amazingly hard. The groups today & over the past decade wouldn't have made it, plus they're not as naturally talented. They can make anyone sound good. THIS IS NATURAL RAW TALENT
Oh that Audience......dear god...they had to endure that?... Lol!...... These guys were SOOOO ON FIRE.....and still having to play to...........Zzzzzzzzzzz ...Such a killer track here!
Who is still watching and listening to this perfection in 2025?!
One of my favorite Journey songs... and oddly, never a studio release of it...
Never recorded in a studio. Live only.
Best version of Journey! Gregg Rolie and Steve Perry were THE BEST, with Neal Schon, Ross Valory, and Steve Smith!
whos still listening to Journey Captured in 2019 , and still loving it, god i miss my youth
Still listening in 2019, almost 2020, and still loving it! Oh, and missing MY youth, also.
I still listen to "Captured"...at least once a week...they were a great band...
This kept me going through my youth that sucked. That & kiss alive 1 + 2
Nearly Sept 2020 Journey every day through lockdown and beyond
Never stopped listening to them. Would love love to see Steve back on the road in Canada!!!
Me every day just can't get enough of his voice, he is so wonderful, and I am 66 and still love him
Happy birth day Steve!!!!
2023... this song still stands up and few bands these days have the talent to write and perform at this level.
Man, Steve Perry's vocals are just out of this world! His incredible, talented & very handsome.
He sounds like someones grab him by the balls
I've spent plenty of time traveling those DIXIE HIGH,WAYS!
this song is fire...foolin' who do you think you're foolin baby, WHOA-OA-OA...

paola P So true! I've turned my kids onto Journey and other great70's- 80's bands! they know what real music is!
Man, Neal Schon could really make his guitar talk.
"Eric Johnson? Yeah, I can do Eric."
Atwood Stadium, Flint MI. I was there. Pat Benatar, Eddy Money, & Journey. What a day and what a great time, back when Flint was alive and kicking rock!
Wish Flint and Saginaw had kick ass shows again!
@@michaelt3308 I was going to say that same thing I was going to say that the only thing you hear in Flint any more is the Muslim call to prayer lol 😂
I heard you screaming in the background.
I stopped in Flint a few years ago on my way from DTW for Alpena. What a S-hole. I live near seattle and it's no peach now either but it beats Flint. Damn, good luck.
Neal schon went mental on that guitar solo, friggin amazing!

Neil Schon is a beast on that guitar
honest to God the vocals in the song just BLOW MY MIND !
Another classic Journey tune, totally polished on the Captured Live Album. Love this song on that album.
This whole concert is top notch!! 👌 Steve's vocals are perfect! 🤗💞🎤
I must say I'm thoroughly enjoying the pre Cain era with Gregg Rolie, and Steve Perry of course. This song is so much fun, wishing Steve would sing again live!!!!
With Cain it went down to a bubble gum band.
I’m 32, I’ve always known Journey with Jonathan Cain but it’s still so cool to see Rollie in these videos and how different it was with him.
Yeah, but his wardrobe choices were wrong. He just didn't have the look to pull off wearing women's garments.
This is one of my favorite concerts! They all seemed so happy and healthy. They were all in the groove!

I remember he sang that at the 2nd concert I went to, which was '80, and it kicked ass!
The first and greatest instrument ever!
This is my FAVORITE Journey song and I never knew they had a video until today. Thanks for the upload!
This is one of the most awesome Journey tunes ever! Nobody does it like Steve!!!
Me encanta verlo bailar alocado en las partes instrumentales. Es hermoso.
My all time favorite Journey song. I have everything they have ever done.
Mine too!

Sublime track, fantastic solo by Neal Schon!
Tehetsége felúlmulja az elvárásokat ❤❤❤❤❤ 2:28
Just now played this on my Casio keyboard for the first time! Journey rules!
Grew up on the Dixie Highway in South Florida. This tune rocks.
Ohgoooosssshhh steve perry THE VOICE!!!!😍😍😍😍😍and neal schon is awesome!!!!
Yet..another GREAT song. These guys created magic!
I'm blown away by the sound quality of this song. It's so well recorded.
I can't believe this was 45 yr a go and now in 2019 he,s back the one and only voice 💜❤️❤️💋
Journey's timing was so spot- on. They really rocked together. PROFESSIONALS. 😎💋💞💜💕👍
loved Osaka!

The best jazz/rock musicians ever.
Saw this tour with my MOM at the legendary COBO HALL. where Kiss Alive and Bob Segar Live Bullet was recorded.
Was it as good as you remember?
I could have lived and died with this ensemble. Ross and the excellent Greg and awesome Steve Smith.
These guys were not expendable. They were OG. Per fcking fection.
I love Steve Perry! Best vocalist ever!
Perry, Coverdale, Page, Dio, Mercury !!!
What a gem.
I wore out Captured on 8 track, cassette. I still have the album.
I wored out 5, 6, and 8, especially stay awhile
Wore out*
I have ALWAYS LOVED this song!!!

Best of the best ! Especially with this song and a live performance of it !
Nadie nadie canta como él
Awesome
Still love journey, captured too. It came out my sophomore year of high school.

agree with you 100% paola, hard to believe this is 35yr old performance , but thank god good people post stuff like this.
This song is on their live album named Captured.
I have that album. Apparently this song never had a studio recording.
Neal slays that guitar!!! Lol kinda weird seen microphones with cords again...
Gracias ewer lord por estos vídeos tan lindos me haces muy feliz

there is no Perry like Steve Perry !
amen!!!
He shouts to high pitched
Awesome! So enjoyed this song & video. Always appreciate the talent of Steve Perry & Journey. Hard On is an extra special visual!!! Thanks for that 💋💋
The only song they played live that never was recorded on a studio album. And it is a blow away. Steve Smith helped write it. As he did "Don't Stop"
I've nevered heard of the Dixie Highway intill now!

cool to hear the differences in neal's guitar in this version, coming from the 3,000 or so times I've heard it on Captured
Loud and clear there, J4B7. One of my favorite Schon solos!
GOOD LORD... Steve Perry!!!!!! Man can he sing and dance. WOW
🏆🏆🏆🎤🎤🎤🌟🌟🌟🌟❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶 legend baby
Best Journey 😊
You got that right he is one of my favorites
No matter what song Steve sing he is the voice and very handsome I love his eyes and his long hair 😍❤️
The last show before Steve Smith switched to matched grip ❤
I think if I get a time machine I might have to drop in on this concert. ;-)
Saw them in 80 or 81 with Loverboy opening. Loudest show I have ever been to, and I have been to a few...
Mine was Skid Row, Pantera, & 'Balls To The Wall' Band! Accept? Had to leave concert, throwing up from Sound Sickness! Then came "The Decibel Meters"! Happy SuperBowl Sunday★

Thank you very much. I didn't realize that he plays his Ovation UK2 solid body on this. I still have my white one but very rarely play it.
It’s 2024 August- Still listening 🎶
this is so good!!!!

Next to "Stone in Love", my favorite Journey song!
I love him
Journey is nominated for the Rock N Roll hall of fame 2017 vote at rockhall.com
This.Is.Incredible! Thank you, EwerLord!
