His sudden and untimely demise in 1960 left behind a void that is yet to be filled... He had just about started recording then... Being of a spiritual and mystical nature, he was shy of commercialisation... Devoting all energy to meditative music instead... We're lucky to have even these grainy uploads(thanks to uploader)... Panna babu, you're sorely missed
I am a very elderly fan of Pannalal. I listen to his flute as and when I am alone. Matchless rendering. Bismillah khan sahib is another god's own creation matchless like Pannalal.
PIONEER with deep understanding of the spirit of ragas and amazing control. A legend who left us too prematurely. Some grainy recordings r now available in ut thanks to generous uploaders
Simply mesmerizing, the feelings invoked by this raaga in itself is melancholic and retrospective. but what makes this piece of music on a hollow piece of wood more impressive is the free flow of infinite cosmic energy transformed by a human to the bamboo flute. No words to describe the mood generated, contemplative and sober would be my best words to describe the raag bhava. Only dedication and blessing would enable a person to play with this amount of tranquility. No undulations, a continuous and progressive buildup of the raaga with all the nuances articulated.Again,I am short of words..........................................................
### J N Ponda aka Jashwant Narsidas Ponda Sole Proprietor of The Phoenix Library Pratham Apts UGF Shop No1 Kumthekar Road Sadashiv Peth Pune ### I heard Pannalal Ghosh many times on All India Radio on the National Programme of Music at 9.30 on some Saturdays. This could be in 1960's or early 1970s I heard it on a wooden cabinet Philps Maestro with 4 valves and Bamboo Ariel on the terrace. On the Ariel sat an astounding variety of colourful birds! I always wondered whether they flocked there to listen to Pannalal! Or was it a case of 'Birds of the same feather flock together"? A Jugalbandi of the Bamboo flute and the melodious chirping of the ornithological community! Ah! It was Omar Khayam 's "happiness enow"? And the Philips "Maestro"? Not to be left behind, it's wooden cabinet and valve system dished out such bewitching music that would turn Indra Darbar green with envy!
I am lucky that I could get this link today, and enjoyed the music which was recited 40 to 50 years back. There are no words to describe it but I can say that comments of Parhta, Bhatia and Sharad Kulkarni have mentioned my thoughts precisely.
After a long long gap, listening to Pt. P. L. Gosh jee. He is the one we grown up listening to every morning and his melodious flute bring fresh energy to mind and body....
This is an example of pure music which can only soothe one's heart and mind. Without the so called sawal-jawab and cheap clapping of untrained audience of nowadays. Pandit Pannalal Ghosh was not only an exponent of Bansuri and Hindustani Raga sangeet, but he was a sage. It is extremely sad that not much recordings of Panditji is available today for posterity.
@@anuraagdekaviolin5856 I have. It's a great Malkauns no doubt, especially for the command on komal swaras. But I prefer Pannababu's style because of the judicious use of tonguing and sweeping meends.

Absolutely. Chaurasia has had tutelage from Annapurnadevi, sitarist. Both have uniqueness we shall nourish. One is mango the other apple. Both nurture our souls.
Pannababu was the musician who initiated hindustani classical on the flute, and he is still the best flute player ever. No one has played with such fluidity.

Unparalleled ! So soothing, so sweet, so mesmerizing notes and tune only Shri Shri Pannalal Babu could produce out of the natural bamboo reed. Heavenly, soul captivating malkauns rag by one and only Panna Babu . Immortalized flute.
