This is by far the best rendition of the raag amongst the ones I have heard ; very likely, the best ever. One does not get to hear this combination of musicality and technical skill these days.
In Sitar no artist can render like nikhil banerjee. To this level no other performer could reach. What a rendering! He is really true guitarist caring not of name, fame and money.
####J N Ponds aka Jashh...... Phoenix Library... ### I go into a trance when I listen to Indian classical music or dance. For me, like diamonds, they are for ever! The classical music always dips me into a languorous liquid for a while, and then suddenly puts me in Edgar Allen Poe's "Whirl Pool". It churns my soul.
Year 1993. Time after 10 PM. Month December is going to end. Location Happy Valley, Mussoorie, India. Flat # 3 Himachal House. In the IAS Academy, probationers have left, and winter break has started. Outside light, snowfall has started, leaving an extremely low sound of snow flakes falling on the Pine Trees. Hardly any of the senior faculty members are still on campus except me and Sudhir Krishna. Of my window, a thin slit is left open by me with a purpose for fresh, cool air to keep coming inside the flat. Otherwise, a Bukhari is burning in the flat. My taperecorder kept along the window that had an auto reverse feature is running the cassette of Nikhil Da's Raag Malkauns. Due to the slit of my window, the sound of the sitar played by Nikhil Da is echoing in the valley as if the music is being played very far off in the cluster of tall pine trees covering the hills of the Happy Valley. In this manner, I used to go off to sleep while my cassette would play till early morning due to auto replay! Those are some of the most memorable nights of my life I passed, alone when my ex-wife snatched away my son and newly born daughter on the split in our married life when she filed a totally false complain of dowry harassment by me that went till the PMO in Delhi. It is this music and raag that allowed me not to go in dipression and always let me have a sound sleep like right now when I am trying to sleep. I love this raag, and it's this rendition by Nikhil Da.💕💕💕💕🇮🇳🇨🇦🇧🇩🇮🇳🇨🇦🇧🇩🇮🇳🇨🇦🇧🇩
@@deknas07 No please. That recording is different. This tabla player is Pt. Kanai Dutta only, I am very sure! This I am not claiming by seeing the photo, but with closed eyes, by hearing! I heard all Nikhil da's available recordings with Kanai Dutta. Thanks & dnjoy!
@@vinayaklimaye It is far beyond me to identify a tabla performer by ear! But, what I should have said is, the recording uploaded here is completely identical to a Chhanda Dhara release (SHCD 21198, “India’s Maestro of Melody - Live Concert Vol. 1”), and in this live performance of Malkauns, Samir Chetterjee is listed as tabla. This is definitely a favorite recording of mine. best regards

Re and Pa are excluded in Malkosh making it a 5 notes Raga, called Aurab Raga. Ma plays the most important role to signify the beauty of this Raga accompanied by Komal Dha and komol Ni. Probably komol Ga is also used to make it so melodious and blissful.

The easiest path to go into the BHAV SAMADHI AVASTHA! Just close eyes and listen. Great!!!

The pure spiritual beauty of this Raaga is unbelievably presented by the greatest of the great Maestro 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Thank you❤
My all time favourite!
I might have heard it atleast two hundred times
Wonderful..and very soothing. Spiritually enriched. Takes me to the altar of the almighty in me...
Spirituality in Nikhilda's music perhaps comes from "thaharav" , which you observe in Ustad Aamir Khan's singing too!
Obvious influence of Dhrupad.

I wish you would give the tabla player's name too! A date of recording would be a luxury i suppose.
Excellent rendition! Wonderful tabla by Pt. Kanai Dutta
This appears to be the same recording that features Samir Chatterjee on Tabla

Nikhil babu had played it on vilambot kheyal style instead of Dhrupodi style of playing a long Alap, jor and jhala.
