I have fished the 11 Point River for trout since 1974 and the dark trout you held up at 11:28 was likely the 'wildest' fish you caught up to that point. The longer a trout stays in the river they get darker spots and a deeper shade of red on sides and gill plates. When I caught and cooked a few of those fish the flesh was actually very pink to red colors sort of like a salmon and had a different flavor from the recent stockers whose flesh was mostly white or grayish color. I think the darker color comes from eating the wild insects, crayfish, etc. that live in the 11 Point river. I also fished the wild parts of the upper Current River below Montauk down to Baptist Camp and those fish never seemed to get as dark as the 11 point wild trout or stockers that had been in the river for a couple of years. I did enjoy catching Brown Trout in upper Current River and I wonder if Missouri has ever considered stocking Browns in the 11 Point, I think they would reproduce there even better and further down the 11 Point than the Rainbow Trout would, since in Arkansas Rivers the Browns seem to survive warmer, less aerated water better than Rainbow Trout. I really enjoy your videos and plan to subscribe to see more.
Nice job! Really enjoyed your video. I also appreciate you taking the couple seconds it takes to explain the how and what behind what you’re doing. So many times these videos are just of people catching fish with no sharing of strategy.
@@FLYALLSZN they could have been my setup too I'm definitely going to try the FAS ADD dropper. I think that's going to be a game changer for me & I'm excited to try it next outing!
Nothing quite like the Irish Wilderness. Solitude. Peace. Water. Can't count the times I have done overnights in a canoe from HWY 19 to Riverton. Never fails to get your head in a good place. Thanks for sharing.
Great video. Don't sell yourself short. You are not just some flyfishing dude. Great content and insight and your fly tying videos I have used with great success. Keep it coming.
Good video, well put together, when I wade fish that river it's usally around the Greer access at hwy 19 upstream from the bridge and right under the bridge, a lot of nice fish in that area and occasionally some decent smallmouth. I think the easiest section to walk in and wade is the Thomasville access where you can wade for miles, but it's the warm water portion of the river and you're going to be catching smallmouth instead of trout. It would be cool to see you make a wade fishing video for smallmouth on that river.
My uncle owns land on the EP down near the Arkansas boarder. Unfortunately no trout down that far south, but for sure a destination I am looking forward to up near Greers and Turner for the BR trout. Nice video! Thanks for coming back to MO for the video!!
Thank you, Michael, for another good production ! Good info on rig/ technique....educational for this 79 y.o. angler with plenty yet to learn ! Enough about location 2B helpful, without giving away someones secret spots. Dislike vids by guys who barely tell one what STATE they are in !! Here to learn.
Awesome video dude. Been fishing through 10" of snow up here in MN. Hoping to hit up a few Missouri creeks over Christmas if the weather holds up. Pretty much like visiting Florida for me.
Fishing at Bennett springs this weekend was a bust unfortunately. We had rain almost all day Saturday. Planning a trip here next to hopefully make up for it. Thanks for the great video!
My first cast on the 11 Point, 30 some years ago, under the hwy 19 bridge, resulted in a 4+ pound rainbow. Years later, I have memories I hope to never forget. A very special place in the Irish Wilderness. #10 Prince Nymph heavy weighted, has always been my go-to.
Lived near Springfield in Nixa 4 years ago but sold out and moved away in 2017 to full time in our RV. I new about the Missouri “Trout Parks” like Roaring River and new about the White River but never got the fishing bug. Now we can travel around and have got back into fly fishing I’ll have to check the Eleven Point when we go back to visit my wife’s sister. Is the river good to fish when the weather is hotter? Thanks for your videos.
Oh man there is some incredible fishing outside of the trout parks! From what I heard the 11 is way better to fish during the warmer months! Full time RV is so dope! That is the goal one day!
Love the videos! I lived in NM for over 10 years, now back in CO. I have tons of questions, would love to fish with ya. I was wondering what Canon camera you use? I'm looking into getting into some video. I have access to a GoPro 8, which is nice. Keep at it, love what your doing!
Looking to go on a canoeing/fishing adventure. To your knowledge can a canoe float the whole stretch of the Eleven Point river or is there a lot of spots we would have to carry the canoe?
Hey man, new subscriber here! I moved to Versailles last May from central Colorado and have asked folks around here where the best trout fishing is and they all point me to Bennett Springs but from the looks of the pictures taken in the area I'm not interested in fishing elbow to elbow with other folks. Besides Eleven Point where would you suggest going for a two or three day trip with the grandson? I know for sure we'll hit Eleven Mile next month. awesome video and Thank you for sharing!!!
The red ribbon section starts IIRC at Turner Mill. They stock there fairly often. You really need to float from Greer down to Hurricane Creek to take advantage of the blue section. The Eleven Point is not a wader friendly river.
I was told about a year ago that flooding a few years prior wiped out a lot of fish so they started stocking again to help build the population back up.
Majority there are stockers, some very limited reproduction. They did try stocking fish raised from Crane Creek trout 20 some years ago. Ive been there during stocking and have some pics of surveyed trout over 10 pds. and stream bred rainbows.

This is awesome would you please hit me up I live in MO and would love to go fly fishing with you I came up with a fly that is landing trout every where.
Many moons ago while clunking along in a ginormous Coleman canoe strapped down for a three day ride with three compadres we accidentally found a small spring that poured into the Eleven Point around this area. The river bottom there was covered with trout. You could literally put anything over the side and pull out a trophy sized slab. I marked the location on a GPS (Which I had recently bought after getting seriously lost while backpacking inside the Irish Wilderness surrounding this river. lol) and later lost the waypoint in a hard drive crash. Never to be found again. Lol I grew up backpacking, floating, and fishing southern Missouri and northern Arkansas with my friends. I'm 48 now and we're still at it. The Midwest has many gifts for those willing to endure a little hardship to extract them. Hell yeah! Carry on my wayward son. Leave me some trouts when you are done! 😂😂😂

Southeastern Missouri is a magical place for just about anything outdoors
That is so true! It really is amazing
Nice video my man! Love MO trout fishing. I usually end up over there a couple times a year.
If you ever go back, you have to do a float trip, some of the best fishing is just down river from the bridge.
In all of my fly fishing travels I've sometimes found that seeing new country is just as valuable as catching fish.
I really appreciate that you explain what you’re doing, and how you’re set up it really helps us newbs.
Of course Gary! So happy it helps!

What a great video. It's so relaxing to watch. That super clear water is very hard to gauge.

Dang on your first cast that crazy cool have you been on that river a lot
Besides trout and smallmouth I have floated and fished the 11 point and everytime I have caught chain pickerel generally near springs

I’ve caught a lot of good trout in the Niangua in the stretch from Bennett Spring all the way to Barclay. It’s underrated IMO
I saw your tag from Lane Spring Rec Area on your dash.
They do stock the eleven point, BUT there are wild bows there as well so you were probably getting a good mix!
