Not much of a commenter (weapons grade lurker); but this is lovely little guide. Now I can let my gaming rig do the heavy lifting, so I can get me some monster slayage in Diablo from my laptop on days when I am less able to sit at my desk. I have a plethora of ailments etc, suffice to say on my bad days I do pine for my games.
So Thanks to you kind sir, and you have earned my subscription. :)
Thank you so much for the sub and kind words. I appreciate the positivity and I’m so glad the video helped you out. 👍
is it possible to force the connection through an ethernet cable if I have both of the devices connected to each other instead of through a router?
Mike thank you so much for this video! I appreciate you.
My pleasure!
I do have a problem that i cant figure out. When i was running linux as host and the steam link on my tv i could minimize steam and access my computer on the tv like i was sitting at my pc... On my new windows laptop when i try this i cant use any buttons on my controller. The cursor movement is there but nothing works to "click" a mouse button if that makes sense. So i cant select anything, double click, open anything...which means i cant play movies that way now. What is going on?
So I have a question. Its possible for players to turn off your PC and look at sensitive files on your PC by using an exploit in remote play. If I simply keep remote play disabled will this prevent this from happening?
I just subscribed and I just have to tell you that you have the most incredible voice!! You should be a radio broadcaster or something!
Is remote play for things in the same area as your pc? My friend lives a mile away and it keeps saying he has no input
Hi Mike! hope you're good. Can i access the files on my 2nd pc outside steam through remote play?
Will this work if I'm traveling? And if so, what steps do I need to take?
you earned a sub from me! do you know if this is fast enough to game online? I have a pc (wired connection) and a macbook pro on the same home network, I could get both hard wired if you recommend. thank you so much!
Hello Mike, then I can play games on steam for example on vacation, right? I just wonder if it can be done somehow so that I can go anywhere I like, for example outside in the park or in the forest?
How do you fix delay tho... I have fast connection and my pc is mid range but there's still delay. What settings is the best
What am I doing wrong? Next to any game I click my desktop but it says install instead of stream
I've tried all this and it says 'Cannot read property 'TakeFocus' of undefined. It's been doing it for a while and I've tried some solutions like running steam in big picture mode however when I run it in big picture mode the computer repeatedly connects and disconnects. I'm not sure what else to do, I was wondering if you had any other solutions?
Is moonlight and sunshine better than steam remote play?
which one has the lowest latency?
And how is it performance wise? Can you play racing games for example in this way? Or is the delay noticeable? Thanks for answering, I actually thinking of buying a mini pc for that.
It's about 40ms optimized for my network at home over wifi.
mine had a weird issue, when i click on Stream button from my 2nd pc, the game plays on the host computer(1st computer). nothing happens on my 2nd pc which is the client pc..
This happens to me as well. Did you ever find a solution to this?
got the same issue, cannot find a single helpful solution..
Same
@ArchiWorldRuS friend of mine solved the issue just by unplugging hdmi for his second monitor. Which did not work for me, so I just chose to abandon steam and use Moonlight instead to stream the game. Hope this helps
@@Luna_MoonJH I've seen a possible solution by disabling hardware decoding. Can you try it, I can't at the moment?
great video, thank you! it helped me a lot
Glad to hear it!
I did what you did but I didnt get a Stream pop up on the side of the game when I click into the game in my library
same issue here
hey i have a gaming pc and im trying to remote share from my pc to my laptop when i press connect nothing happens
Can I do this for long distance gaming? I have a steam deck but it’s not able to run a certain game I play correctly. I have a desktop at home but I travel for work. If I leave my desktop on, can I just remote play from that to my pc in another state?
Heyho can u tell me is it possible that i stream a solo player game for a friend but we can both control it? so that we can play together in turns u know what i mean? that when he stuck i take controll and help
Hi, friend!
I have a problem. Set up everything as you said. Server on Windows 10. Client - Fedora Gnome 38. Wayland session.
I connect to the server from the Client via RDP. I start Steam.
Then I launch Steam on the Client and make money - Stream. A black window opens. I can hear the sounds of the game, but I can't influence it. Walheim game. She must work quietly. Tried both options for launching the game. With and without Vulcan.
Please tell me what I'm doing wrong!
All this does is order my host to run the game , I see nothing but a supposedly "connected remotely" all-blank/black screen. But only the computer running the game is in control.
My problem is I cannot play FPS via RDP since my mouse is virtually bounded and I cannot rotate the view 360 degrees freely. I thought this Steam Remote might run it as a local interface on my laptop, but it doesn't seem to be so. If you got any suggestion how to be able to move the mouse infinitely thru the remote desktop connection, I'd be happy to know. cheers
at 1:48 can i be able to play on both at the same time?
I have the opposite pc allowing stream how do i make my main pc the main streamer?
Thank you so much for your help
I struggled so much on this a settings have changed since it was brought out lol
how do i fix steam remote play... i click stream game on my steam deck and the game trys to launch on my desktop but then it just closes
Greeting Mike. Hope all is well. I cant use the mouse and keyboard on the 2nd computer. Any help Mike?
No audio on my steam deck I’ve tried ticking the audio plays on host off and on but nothin no audio still, I’ve also played around A lot with sound settings still no audio any help ?
my pc says (somthing whent wrong while displaying this content)
do you know how to fix it
It's just not showing me the stream option.
After press stream button, the game pops up but I cant control the game on 2nd pc
Could you make a video on how to make it so you can do it even if you are on a different wifi network to the host?
great job man
question: i wanna use my bedroom pc to play elden ring on my 2015 mac air. how well will streaming quality be (i have like 200mbps wifi so pretty damn solid for streaming other things) compared to the actual pc gameplay? is it comparable to geforce now/stadia? or better? worse? i cant test right now because im just about to order my pc this week, so im wanting your thoughts on the situation
Wifi never seems to be as stable as wired, even with gigabit internet. But the quality of Steam streaming is top notch. I use it for lots of stuff. It’s just a bit fidgety with some network setups.
@@MikeTheTech Hi I’m streaming on my Mac from my pc which is just downstairs. When I start the stream everything is fine and the game loads but when I get into the lobby my game freezes and shuts off. Can u help me with this?
I am having some issues. so my other PC is doing what yours is doing in the video (i can stream my games from my second PC not my primary) How do i fix this? cause i cant get around this and i want too stream too my other one. im trying too get it too stream too a microsoft surface (it does do it i done it 1 time then it never did it again) so i wanna know how i can fix this issue.
Yeah I have this issue too.
Can I play games on my friends pc from different country
Hey Mike, just gotta respond to your "most likely you aren't subbed" intro, and let you know (you may already know however) it's due to your content. I don't mean the quality etc of it, the literal content being provided. Tutorial channels will always struggle with any kind of consistent interaction, as few will need multiple tutorials at all, and pretty much no one will need all of them. It's a "fire and forget" subject (like compilations etc) that's easy to google "How do I.." etc that people will use the solution provided, potentially leave their thanks, and move on with whatever they were doing pre-issue. It's an unfortunate fact, that because it's such a geared format you completely dissect your audience with it apposed to things like "Dave plays this game, that game, oh look a vlog" where it's generic/related content and the focus/draw is the person. Even with your personality draw to keep someone coming back through needing to install the new iOS, connect a windows controller to a PC, levelling up in Disgaea, and using a PS5 controller on a Switch... is much less likely. Although the content is generally linked (like how a lets player may play different generes, but they're still just playing games), the only link is that it's a tutorial whereas the goal of them is VERY specific and therefore not a return draw to many people.
I've pointed out the "problem" but I don't really have a suggestion to improve on that, other than perhaps make the tutorials more of an experience-vlog like situations..? "I played on the Switch with a PS5 controller! And you can too!" etc, assuming you aren't opposed to such baiting approaches lol. However as I said it's a "problem" not a true problem as you are creating content which is helping people, from many different angles and areas, and you've got a pretty high sub count from such a difficult field to earn it in too, so good work and keep up the good content :)
Excellent feedback. Mike made a great tutorial and it matches the user intent perfectly, I'd personally not want to see anything different there. All the notes you made RE: the subscriber base of tutorial channels are exactly right.
I agree with this, it must be very difficult to earn subs in this category but your videos are amazing and have helped me a lot. Thank you so much!
can I do this with non steam games that I've added to steam library?
Yup. I’ve used it with Notepad just to start a remove desktop session. Lol
Just wont work. My laptop sees my pc and when i press stream, its starts on the host pc, but when i click connect on the laptop it spins for a few seconds, then connect appears again
owesome ... god tier explanation /flex
Glad it helped!
is it possible to do remote play when the other people are not on the same wifi (all on PC) ?
Yes
Just what I needed. A 650 W consuming mobile device.
I've been this issue that when I try to Remote Play from my Steam Deck to my laptop, there is no audio on either devices. But as soon as I cut the connection for streaming Remote Play, the audio is back to normal on host device.
Then I was trying out Remote Play Together and it's playing audio only on the host device. If I invite my friend to play over the internet and they don't get any sound while playing, that would really suck... Any idea what's going on, friend?
I'm trying to Play Together on Resident Evil Revelations 2 and having this issue also. The host has audio but me, the client, does not. I can move in the game and see everything, but I cannot hear the game.
@@labios_de_taco I'm continuing to have all kinds of issues streaming to or from my Deck and pretty much gave up on it at this point...
Hello everyone 👋🏿 I bought a login to a steam account to olay a game. On a play/download/pause/stream button I can see other desktops and when I clicked on one of them I connected to that person desktop and could click and move around with my mouth. How do I prevent my own computer from such an invasion 🌝 considering I have to setting option in steam account and no acces to things like family account etc as I has no pin code. I would really appreciate any help with that
This may be a dumb question.... Can I use this setup without a second PC? I have a long distance friend that wants to watch me play certain games and I can't figure out how to host and screen share with just the steam deck. Can I just host and have my friend remote in to watch my screen?
Just share you screen using Discord, that's a much simpler process
Nice Video!
Do u know hot get rid of the black bars when i remote play with my steam deck? And inknow that this game bg 3 supports 16:10! But when i remote play the black bars are coming!! And i tinkerd with resolution and yes! But i think i miss something ! Maybe uncan help?
When I try to connect (click stream or connect), the host computer gets a blackscreen for a few seconds and nothing happens. The game is open, running... but no way to connect...
Situation 1: windows 11 as host, windows 10 as client (NOT WORKING, BLACK SCREEN AND NOTHING)
Situation 2: windows 11 as host, mint as client (Works at first try)
Both using same game, both using Wireless network (WIndows 10 and 11 disable IPV6)...
I keep getting the error timed out waiting for stream to launch
when I'm in the game in my second device my mouse isn't appearing, anyone know why? the mouse shows outside of the game but in the game itself it doesn't show
I have an office with a powerful PC and a living room with a Big TV. Could I just connect a Notebook to my TV with HDMI and use your remote Play method from the video to play in my living room? Can I play with a Controller connected to the Laptop next to the TV or does it need to be connected to the Office PC?
Whats the smartest way here, Ive also heared about Steamlink but thats seems to be discontinued. The steamdeck doesnt seem to utilize the power of my Office PC
Yup! That'll work. :)
Controller will connect to the laptop.
I will be in my hometown for the rest of the summer and there's a computer thats not as good as my own in the city I am in now. Will I be able to ask someone to turn my main PC on so I can stream games to another PC that's in another city (2000 miles away)?
Yes
does it matter how powerful your second computer is? i have a triple monitor set up in my bedroom but i want to play elden ring in the living room. all i have is a laptop out there with like 4 gigs ram.
You can get smoother performance from faster machines in terms of processing the video that gets sent, but I’ve ran it on a Chromebook and it works fine.
is there a way for you and ytour friend to play a game that he doesnt own at the same time?
sure is
Hi. I can not select setting in my own Steam account. Please help.
i tried everything it doesnt work any tips?
Thank you! I had all this stuff done and couldn't get the option to stream, but turning the remote play option off and back on fixed it (I'm at work and couldn't even listen to the audio so I was so glad you showed what you did lol)
Did anyone successfully use steam link to play Forza Horizon 4?
I did the set-up as this video shows, but the game didn't show up the stream function.
Good to know! Thanks
Sure thing! Thanks for the comment!
works flawlessly but every so often (60 seconds, couple mins) it will just randomly 'hang' inputs and spam the last input i did constantly for a few seconds. wtf is going on there?
Do you need other pc to be rly good bcz i want to play from work and on work pc is sooo slowww
Only the host needs to be good. The client just need to be able to handle the stream quality and input basically.
Does it work when the host pc is with the windows lock screen on?
x2
now what shoud i do when the other steam accunt sais dis:Cannot read property 'TakeFocus' of undefined?
sorry for the bad englis ,it's not my naitive langvige
Does this work from laptop to desktop. I can stream games on my laptop from my desktop but can't get it to work vice versa.
Yes. Works both ways.
@@MikeTheTech Thank you, I was able to figure it out.
Hey, How can you use steam remote play but for the entire desktop?
So I can control the pc entirely with steam remote play?
Nobody ever answers, i guess you can't control your stuff freely
thanks
You're welcome!
If I don't have a game installed on the PC yet, but I install the game on my laptop, will I be able to stream the said game?
Yes. That’s remote play.
Did everything you said to do.... Couldn't start streaming on remote computer.
Your tech tips are very helpful. (Linus better watch out)
Glad you think so! That's quite the compliment! Thanks for the sub. :)
@@MikeTheTech hello, is there a way to stream Call of Duty warzone 2 from battlenet?
Hey can I’m game sharing off a freinds account but we can’t both be playing the same game at the same time on diff accounts can you change that?
Sorry. I’m not understanding this question. If you’re sharing his game, you wouldn’t be using your own account. You would be logged into their Steam.
Didn't work , just blinks a black screen and launches the game on the host, gives green CONNECT button on laptop , but clicking the connect button just blinks both screens.
So did this and nothing happened.... there's no stream option or anything
Can this go to my steam deck?
Thanx for the info
You bet
do both the pc's have to be in the same wifi?
No
Thank you!
You bet!
Hi Sir, please do this for using RoG Ally to stream PC game.
i love you like honestly
whats with the IP? Does this shaee my IP with users??
I have 2 computers with steam I don’t know where how to?
Que?
Thanks
Couple of questions on how this works.
Question 1: If you "stream" the game from your 2nd computer (PC#2) and want to stop playing, will the game still be playing on your gaming PC (PC #1)?
Question 2: Can you start playing a game on PC#1, then go to PC2, log into the active game on PC2 and start playing from there?
Ultimately I am trying to figure out how this works with an idle game that I am playing (The Perfect Tower 2). What I am trying to see is if I can have the game be farming on my PC#1, then from time to time jump into my active play session on my PC#2 to make changes, ect then close out on PC2 and it will still play on PC1. I am getting the feel that it's a no, and I would need to use some sort of remote desktop solution, but I just wanted to see from the Steam expert!
Should work fine as long as you force close/disconnect the Steam streaming. The default way to stop is to close the game itself and click stop streaming. But if you just disconnect the game should stay running.
@@MikeTheTech I will do some trial and error to see what happens! Thanks for the help 🙂 I will let you know how it goes.
Great vid. My pc doesn’t have wifi, only Ethernet connection, does that mean this won’t work? Trying to play game on my laptop using my main pc as the workhorse
Ethernet will work better than wifi.
So apparently Remote play can work with another PC NOT on your network, but I cannot find a single guide that actually describes the steps on how to do that.
ty so much for helping u need oscar😀
Someone I don't know offered their Steam account to me so I can play their games. Using remote play, can they access my desktop and steal my info (or log in to my bank account)?
If they have the password, and the settings are set right, yes. They can.
how to pair?
Just log in to the same account.
Broo think you so much
Welcome!
I don't get it, i have it working but why is my friend playing in the same computer as me, his literally controlling my character not another one
It’s the same as local play. For example, if you’re both on keyboard, and keyboard is set to player 1, you’ll both control player 1. You need to use different control methods just like if it were local.
This is crazy. So your telling me in this day and age I can play a game remotely on another device using my gaming pcs processing power in the next city over? 😅
Yep! Gotta love technology.
What was wrong with Steam Link ya know?
Can I do this while not same networks
If you configure stuff right, yes.
sick beard
🤙
Hi sir plz replyy.... YESTERDAY I installed GTA 5 through steam and my cursor started moving on its own and someone was trying to play game ..so was it through steam or someone hacked me..(although after that I deleted both steam and game)plzz reply🙏
Was it your account or a shared / purchased account?
It was a shared account sir
I used an account provided by some youtuber to download gta v from hi account for free
That’s the problem. They sell shared accounts with remote play to take control of your pc.
So sir am i safe now ... FIRST i disconnected my self from internet and deleted it and then ran many scans through NORTON anti virus and it showed no threats..
@Mike Thank you! This tutorial helped a lot! May I suggest you game on Linux BTW =D
thanks discord moderator
Doesn't work remotely, only on local network...
It does work remotely! Your network has to be set up for it and I recommend using Steam Link, but remote play works fine on it's own too.
@@MikeTheTech I restarted steam on both machines and it started working. Looks that Remote Play is buggy and doesn't work all the time.
I have a question.
?
