  • Lookie here, another 2903 series with a 9833. This time, it's in strobe form!
    Paired with the 2901-9833 is none other than the Simplex 2903-9101. It's capable of having a horn mount on the rear of the plate, and has a strobe instead of a light. On the back of the unit, there's a strobe circuit, which feeds power to a strobe tube on the other side. It's difficult to remove the lens in front without potentially breaking one of the tabs (already did that with my other two 2903's), so I do not show it off. The lens IS removable, though, just a pain to do so.
    This particular model in the 2903 family is the 2903-9101. The -9101 is indicated by the permanent marker writing on the inside of the alarm. The rear mount light plate is the -9001, and the surface mount plate (mine has the 2901-9362 bell on it) is the -9002. Again, all indicated by the permanent marker writing on the rear of the unit.
    DISCLAIMER:
    1: It is a FELONY to pull a fire alarm in public to falsely report a fire (i.e. "Just for fun). A fire alarm in a public building should only be pulled if there is actually a fire or other emergency. However, this is being activated in a controlled and legal environment, an enthusiast's test setup. No fire departments were called when activating the alarm.
    2: This video contains flashing lights from a strobe. Those prone to seizures from flashing lights SHOULD NOT WATCH THIS VIDEO.
    I AM NOT responsible for any legal damages done for pulling a false alarm, or for any seizures. These are your decisions, not mine.

    Wow cool! I love the old simplex alarms like that, I think they have a cool design.

      Grant Bansemer And also I am just curious were did you get this alarm?

      Grant Bansemer This is a pretty cool design. It requires a pretty big backbox, but it's still a pretty cool design. This particular device came from eBay, believe it or not. If you happen to look at the right time for Fire Alarm related stuff, you can find some pretty interesting stuff, like this. There's a few devices that I found by looking just at the right time, hopefully you have the same luck as I did.

      +Cameron Avery Does the school have a new electronic bell system (tone plays through the speakers whenever clock system reaches the appropriate time). Interesting mix of alarms, older Edwards and Simplex, seems like it would be loud, but awesome!

    The 2903 and the 9833 look in pretty good condition, almost new!

      NJMoo3652 Glad you noticed! Usually when I get an alarm, I try to clean them up as best as I can. Typically, this involves cleaning the alarm of any paint, removing any major scratches, removing dust, etc. It ends up looking like something like this. I also try my best to keep the alarms in best of shape as I can, when in storage. Usually, little to no damage is done.

      What do you use to take off the paint and scratches? The magic eraser just doesn't do it

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  9 лет назад +1

      Magic eraser definitely won't do that. I use a combination of a rubbing compound and a small polishing wheel. It won't completely remove ALL the scratches, but it will make a HUGE improvement.

    Looks like something you'd find in a condo building that was built in the early 90's.

      Interesting you would say that; these 2903's definitely seem higher quality.

    I don't know if you know this or not, but the 2901-9833 was manufactured by Faraday

      @NewEnglandElevators  7 лет назад

      I've known this for quite some time now, nearly 10 years. Not sure how you got the idea that I didn't know. However, I keep forgetting which is the original Faraday model number, so thanks!

    Yeah, be careful with the potentiometer. Mine's come loose a few times, and I've had to re-solder it to the board.

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  9 лет назад +1

      Fahrenheit4051 I don't even want to get near any of those components with one of my fingers...especially that capacitor on the back. The potentiometer does look fiddly, so I don't want to touch it, to be honest.

    Is it possible to wire this horn with the strobe in parallel (it would skip like the Wheelock 7002T)?

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  8 лет назад

      I doubt it; not sure what damage that would do to the strobe if I did try that.

    • @NewEnglandElevators

      Depends on the auction you purchase one from. Usually an auction on eBay for one of these will come with a horn pre-installed.

    Is this alarm rare?

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  4 года назад

      I would say nowadays, somewhere in between rare and common. Less and less buildings have them now due to upgrades, etc. However, I wouldn't say this is as rare as the 4050-80/4051 quite yet, still seems to be a few kicking around.

    • @NewEnglandElevators

      I got mine off of Ebay. Be careful though as it seems like the price of these have increased over the past few years, they can be at least $70 from what I've seen...I've seen some as high as $150.
