The bigger question is; When will they develop CNC "carbon roving weaving" wherein two or arms pass a shuttle roll full of thermal set carbon ribbon material back and forth around a foam core to create COMPLETE CONTINUOUSLY woven structures?
Depends on the production rate. For sure AFP tape can be more weight optimized. Usually you can get away with fewer fabric plies in the min gauge acreage areas though. So the weight savings might not be that much.
This works best on panels that have varying strength requirements, as when the perimeter needs more material and less in the center. It is less expensive to do it all the same automated way than to try to manually build up edges on a large sheet of cloth.
This is what happens to my RUclips, I complain about failure criterion’s in my laminates homework out loud and youtube recommends this gem of a video.
Thanks,I am working a prototype. 1:04
Not that long ago, this was highly proprietary and state-of-the-art.

Perfect
Hand layup would still be faster for a part like this. That AFP was moving super slow in the core details.
Not about speed, it’s about consistency.

Bag side looks much more better than a tool side (male tool).
Sehr cool😍

I think huge sheets of carbon fiber would be much stronger and easier to built also faster.
Not stronger but absolutely faster and easier/cheaper.
