being on tinder and other dating websites, i've met people like this. they like to gather sympathy and throw a "pity party". they mainly seek vulnerable, naive, and caring people. A guy i met online said that he was depressed because his girlfriend passed away from cancer (all lies btw). out of sympathy, i became his friend and later, he turned the conversation around and said things like "youre the nicest person ive ever met" and "you're so sweet, I really like you" to try to get at me. it's a common tactic to use depression to get nice people to stay
I had a “friend” who got way too attached to me way too quickly. He told me about a lot of his life troubles when I only knew him for a month and then his personal feelings and told me I’m his best friend, still in the span of a month. He then started saying some sketchy things that made me really uncomfortable and I started keeping tabs on them and then confronted him on all of the weird things he’d say. He tried to gaslight me into thinking it really wasn’t that bad and that I was “overreacting” when some of his “jokes” came across as threats more often than not. I told him I don’t want to be friends anymore and he tried guilt tripping me into keeping the friendship. Someone can be down on their luck and turn their life around for the better, but there’s a lot of manipulation out there.

This situation (on a smaller 2009 scale) happened to me when I was in college. It was an acquaintance I knew from Model UN in high school. And he went around his school (we went to different colleges) saying that we were engaged, that we were having sex, and that I was going on a trip with him to Australia. One of my friends heard him talking about it and that's the only way I knew about this situation. Immediately cut ties with him, but it's just absolutely wild.
If this employee is as 'high up' as she says, then it makes sense that she refrains from revealing his identity. He would have enough resources to file a lawsuit against her.

I actually dealt with a similar situation with a friend of mine always playing the suicide card (constantly) as a manipulation tactic just because he was trying to get sympathy from me to keep me around and try to sleep with me. Really scummy behavior and not to mention trivializes people who genuinely suffer from suicidal thoughts
The worst part is that people like these could ACTUALLY be sucidial anyway and the best option is still to cut the connection entirely I've dealt with two situations (both unrelated to me on a personal level, but I've helped resolve them) where someone was genuinely sucidial & was threatening their own life if they (the people I helped) stopped talking to them Ultimately the best decision is always to cut contact in the most respectful way possible. Yes, it sucks, you don't know if they'll actually do it, or if this'll be the last straw, but it's the only chance in this situation to make them hopefully realize they need help, and for us to not be forced into really scummy uncomfortable mental health paradoxes.

We all knew it was fake but we were young at the time and decided to be there for her “just in case”. Fast forward to her first year of college and she tried this on another guy who ended up doing exactly what you said and called the police. Apparently she said she was going to “jump” so the police wasted no time getting to her. Guess what?! She was arrested, charged, and convicted! I genuinely can’t remember all her charges but one of them was “wasting emergency resources” or something along those lines. I’ve never wished harm onto anyone but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t satisfying to learn she was finally held accountable for her BS. Personally, I think everyone who wants to fake something as serious as suicide should get the same punishment!

It's a bit concerning how many of us had someone - whether it be a man or a woman - who we talked to online and they would use suicide threats to keep us talking to them. Why is that such a universal experience?
The only 2 reasons I could POSSIBLY think of for him to lie about being in a relationship with Poki is he thought: 1. They would let their guard down and not think he was trying to "get with them" because he was already with Poki, making them more vulnerable to manipulation 2. "Oh, he's with Poki? I had a “friend” who got way too attached to me way too quickly. He told me about a lot of his life troubles when I only knew him for a month and then his personal feelings and told me I’m his best friend, still in the span of a month. He then started saying some sketchy things that made me really uncomfortable and I started keeping tabs on them and then confronted him on all of the weird things he’d say. He tried to gaslight me into thinking it really wasn’t that bad and that I was “overreacting” when some of his “jokes” came across as threats more often than not. I told him I don’t want to be friends anymore and he tried guilt tripping me into keeping the friendship. Someone can be down on their luck and turn their life around for the better, but there’s a lot of manipulation out there.

This situation (on a smaller 2009 scale) happened to me when I was in college. It was an acquaintance I knew from Model UN in high school. And he went around his school (we went to different colleges) saying that we were engaged, that we were having sex, and that I was going on a trip with him to Australia. One of my friends heard him talking about it and that's the only way I knew about this situation. Immediately cut ties with him, but it's just absolutely wild.
If this employee is as 'high up' as she says, then it makes sense that she refrains from revealing his identity. He would have enough resources to file a lawsuit against her.

I actually dealt with a similar situation with a friend of mine always playing the suicide card (constantly) as a manipulation tactic just because he was trying to get sympathy from me to keep me around and try to sleep with me. Really scummy behavior and not to mention trivializes people who genuinely suffer from suicidal thoughts
The worst part is that people like these could ACTUALLY be sucidial anyway and the best option is still to cut the connection entirely
I've dealt with two situations (both unrelated to me on a personal level, but I've helped resolve them) where someone was genuinely sucidial & was threatening their own life if they (the people I helped) stopped talking to them
Ultimately the best decision is always to cut contact in the most respectful way possible.
Yes, it sucks, you don't know if they'll actually do it, or if this'll be the last straw, but it's the only chance in this situation to make them hopefully realize they need help, and for us to not be forced into really scummy uncomfortable mental health paradoxes.

That being said, I still cued his friends in to his behavior so someone was able to "keep an eye on him" after I cut him off, because I don't doubt that he has struggled with mental health in the past. I just wasn't going to allow him to continue weaponizing his words against me for his own gain

The only 2 reasons I could POSSIBLY think of for him to lie about being in a relationship with Poki is he thought:
