Soul Music From a true genuine authentic soul brother. He's a soul man. Bob thanks you are the world's eternal soul brother.... "I'm commenting through these tears"....
6:13 - "I’m going out of my mind, oh, oh / With a pain that stops and starts / Like a corkscrew to my heart / Ever since we’ve been apart." You win Nobel Prizes when you write like that. Simply magnificent!
Even better than that try another line from the same song, the most desperate, painful and beautiful plea to a lover that's ever been set to music, "I can change I swear/ Ah, see what you can do." Search your own life and you'll remember a moment when this line was applicable. Devastating and genius.
LOVE IS SO SIMPLE ,I FEEL LIKE I AM JUST WITH THEM AS I LISTEN TO THIS SONG ,I FEEL SO ALONE ANYMORE SO MANY OF MY FRIENDS HAVE PASSED AWAY AND TIMES ARE SO DIFFERENT I FEEL QUIET NOW EXCEPT THROUGH MUSIC WHICH BRINGS LIFE TO ME AND MY HEART ❤️ 💙 💜 SHINES AGAIN,I SURE LOVE THIS AND I THANK YOU
My favorite Bob voice was from this era. I bought Biograph when I was 18 & first heard studio version 2 of this song. Played the hell out of it. It was anguishing then & still is now.
I'm jealous of all of Bob's fans who got to see The Rolling Thunder Review in person - I agree with other comments that performances were incredible by all the musicians he chose to compliment his singing. The instrumental solos in this particular song bring up so many emotions making it an incredibly sad love song at the same time. My fav arrangement.
In May 41 God gifted the world Robert Zimmerman. He truly did. In September 83 he gifted the world Amy Winehouse. Catherine Bush in 58. Lennon in 40. The list goes on. All these great writers and singers and musicians. That’s where Heaven is to be found.
Can you IMAGINE what The Rolling Thunder Review was like - all those WONDERFUL artists travelling with him on the 'TRAIN' - the SPIRIT that motivated them and kept them HIGH - the MUSIC - the CAMARADERIE - the LOVE - an EVENT without par - - before or since. Martin Scorsese made a great documentary about it that's pretty mind blowing.
That eerie wailing violin played against the backdrop of those constantly crashing cymbals really starts to whipsaw you. Then there are Bob's long, drawn out often sarcastically rendered lyrics. (You're a big girl all the waaaaaaay). The mournfulness is almost too much to bear. Thankfully those chirpy little acoustic notes remind us that all is not lost. There are fresh seeds being planted in the dead of this terrible winter.
“I can change I swear…” and ofc “ oh I know where I can find you..ohhhhh in somebody’s room”. Brings tears and bad memories everyone has in their lives through breakups.
You're right, this is the best live version of this (or any?) song. THe 1976 RTR was so much more emotional than 1975, and the playing by his band of outlaws was out of this world. Even the wrong notes were right!
You know what's funny? People usually prefer the 1975 leg of the Rolling Thunder Revue. Personally I think both are fantastic and I can't choose just one. I mean, the versions of It Ain't Me Babe and Isis in 1975 were fucking amazing but this version of You're A Big Girl Now and Shelter From The Storm (which are from the second leg) are also extremely majestic. That's why I think this might be one of the finest periods of Bob's carreer (from 1974 to 1977)
I WAS ON THE ROAD TO NOWHERE, NOW WE CROSS SHADOWS ON THE PATH, WE WERE WALKING BACKWARDS WHEN UP ROSE THE GROUND FRAGRANCES OF FLOWERS FILLED THE AIR THERE WAS SINGING ,OF LITTLE CHILDREN PLAYING IN THE STREETS OF FLOURISHING ,MY RICHES WERE RUNNING BAREFOOT ,THE GREEN GRASSES COMFORTING THEIR FEET , THEIR INNOCENCE CAUGHT THE SON S ATTENTION, THEIR JOY FILL THE AIR AS THEIR LAUGHTER MADE SMILE. TEARS FILLED MY EYES .WHEN THEY CAME IN AS THE DUST WAS WASHED AWAY , WITH MY TEARS OF APPRECIATION SWEET SMELLS OF ALABASTER FILL THE AIR AS OUR SENSES CAME ALIVE TO YOUR TRUTH ALIVE IN THE DOORWAY OF TIME.AS OU TURN TO SEE , WHO WAS LEFT OUT THERE YOU LEFT A KEY WITH A NOTE , WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SOUND .JESUS
This is simply fantastic. I have always respected Bob for constantly challenging his arrangements of songs ~ this delivers here, sung with a ton of soul!
Tremendous job! The slideshow focuses mostly on my favorite stage of the many turnings of Dylan, the Rolling Thunder Review. Immaculate timing of showing Bob hammer down on his guitar while the band orchestrates what may be Dylan's most painful song. Great work!
This is from the best complete show recorded of the 2nd leg of RTR at the warehouse May 3rd 1976,very easy to find and great other versions of songs from that time
Astonishing stuff. I'm constantly amazed by all these uncanny rearrangements that all somehow seem to work (and whisper it...even better than the studio versions!)
Same here!! Its amazing and agree they are better than the studio versions! He reminds me of hendrix in that way, something was always added to the songs they played live never would they play anything note for note from the record
That song brought me to tears!!! It was so beautiful! Really had all of my emotions brought to the surface! Never mind about me how are you feeling since you are back from the hospital!!!!! Hope you are eating well, and drinking loads of liquids. And above all get a lot of rest!!!! Love ya Bob and the Video was so extra special. Thank you so very much for sharing this with me! Love ya truly❤️🙏and have a fantastic and get a really rested day! ❤️Kathie
Goodness! He always had a great arrangement for this one on the historical RTR Tour .just a guess, but I think, one of the great poets favorites..Shh..he might hear
Michael McLoughlin I saw "The Rollomg Thunder Revue" live at MSG in N.Y. There It was a benefit to raise money for Ruben Carter's defense fund, Mohammed Ali showed up. He couldn't believe that the women in the audience would rather go with Bob Dylan than him. The crowd was so big outside the garden that the police ordered 'them to open up & start selling tickets. They were afraid of a riot. Yeah,😀😀 I was young then.
The most beautifully heartbreaking track I will ever hear. This is very much a public performance-directed version though, lacking the no exit, cruel intimacy of the Blood On The Tracks version.
Wandsworth Road Vauxhall London July 2010. Going to feckin 30th party of Olivia whom I managed well not really cos managing ppl not my thing in her job til 2008. Was with my friend Caroline now in NZ her flat round corner. Was supposed to be feckin Sandy from Grease but the curls fell out before I got there.
wow that sounds great, thanks for posting ! wish i knew where this concert was. It definitely sounds like it's from around the time of the Blood on the Tracks recording, mid 70s. Sounds like a Dylan guitar solo. Nice one. thanks again xo
