- Manta Ray, Kingfish and some nice footage of a Mako shark having a crack at our kingy at the end...
Another time I was actually in the water with a Mako... my spearo buddies told me off for doing this... • Jumping into the water... Спорт
beautiful fish, beautiful shark in a beautiful country...greetings from méxico
How high are you?
Imagine critiquing a guy for go proing a spear fishing trip and bobbing his head up and down while encountering a shark
Meanwhile they’d be shaking in their wetsuits
Hahhahhaaa Thanks bro.
great vid dude , new to spearfishing and your channel, keep it up. P.S that mako was beautiful
Been watching lots of shark vids and guys at 3:20 are the only ppl I've seen that drag fish well behind them. 👏 Finally! Well done guys!
Love New Zealand. Worked in the vineyards over there. Had some really great experiences in Blenheim, Wellington and Christ Church in 2005. Buy wine from Oyster Bay! Cheers from New Orleans!
Nice video! Beautiful country you guys have! Would love to visit.
So streamlined and beautiful mako. Ferraris of the ocean
Yeah they are. Another vid on my channel shows me jumping in the water to video one. That was a bit silly... my buddies told me off for doing that. All happened so fast, I didnt really stop and thing... oops.
Unreal vid mate, thanks for posting!
That is such a beautiful mako, i can swim in that open water for hours, been diving for such a long time and would spend hours in the water.
A braver man than I. My more experienced buddies told me to get out when a Mako is around. Not that it would deliberately attack you, but might get accidentally bitten.
That Mako shark was beautiful! Awesome adventure guys.
Thanks for watching!
I live in Wellington and recently went up to coramandle for a holiday and see this in recommend
This mako size is about 3/3.5 meters long, your kingfish was about 1.5 meters long. Mako are smart shark, he was waiting in the deep before attacking your fish. Mako use that tactics often, this species is extremely fast. You are lucky that this kind of fish eat only fish species and not mammals, he prefers to sink his teeth to fish that are in trouble this fish can handle catching human without problem anyway so stay safe and good catch!
Interesting!
Just a classic fishing-day in southern Australia
thks for the vid. Great shot of this beautiful mako.
Beautiful, clear footage..💜 sharks..Makos are cool, had a feeling that it was when I got a good look at the face
Water was amazing that day.
Awesome Mako footage cheers from San Diego
you said it all at the end there...it’s his dinner
Awesome video & awesome camera. Loved it
Good footage you got there. Mako are definitely the eeriest looking of them all.
Yeah, I didn't realise how brutal their teeth were until I watched it in slowmo. One even rubbing against you would cut pretty bad!
Looks like danger rocks or south side on Ohinau maybe. Epic clear water. I spear that area. Always looking for buddies.
Close bro, Never Fail. Was there again last week on Waitangi Day. Buddy got a 16 and a 12, I got a 12. Haven’t seen water like that since... it was epic viz.
I cant believe they answer this comment , 4 years ago LMAO
4:54 pulls his hand out of the water realizing he’s missing 2 fingers.
Yeah, nearly... got a fright when I watched the video back. Was glad I pulled my hand out - the Mako has teeth falling out its face!
You guys have balls of steel. I couldn't imagine doing this. id rather take my chances with a fishing rod. Even if i only get a half a fish id be happy.lol. much respect for what you guys do and the risk you guys take.
Risk really is minimal. Looks much worse than it is. We have friendly sharks in NZ 😀

"My poor buddy had 3 sharks circling him, so we decided it's best to COME BACK LATER" ???
HAHA. I laugh, only to conceal my tears of despair.
hahaha... Bronzies aren't really a problem. We waited for it to calm down before we came back. They are a good sign there is lots of fish around... they are only there for one reason... to eat fish!
I admire your fearless attitude, but by the way you describe things, I can't but to help hearing that you wanted to go back to where sharks go to eat. Sure, your not on the menu to begin with, but your playing around on their dinner plate, and everyone knows that fish can get a bit boring in the long run D:
With this said, I am happy there are fearless people like this. I do really enjoy the videos ^_^
My mates are fearless. We've watched a shark working a shoreline after we've anchored... only 10 meters away. The boys say "that's a good sign, must be fish around". And then we jump in. They tend to avoid you, unless you have a fish on the spear - then you need to be careful. That's why I told my mate to "get to the boat". I'd seen a very big shark 10 minutes before hand... I didn't fancy arguing with it in the water about who had rights to the kingfish! Best to have that debate from the safety of the boat....
Well, out of the lot of you, you clearly are the rational one 8-)
Beautiful Mr Mako
Awesome footage. I'd love to see a Malo for myself
ótimas imagens...
Epic! Well done boys.
Cool video...Good work! Bessssst country in the world#NZ
Nice shot of the mako. I love NZ!
… "tax man got his share" love it - nice vid guys - I do agree with other comment about in water/out of water with GoPro.. look forward to the next installment..
yeah... it's pretty annoying. Need to buy a new GoPro... I attached it to my speargun, but I speared a 15kg kingfish and the mono wrapped around the GoPro. It put enough pressure on it, with the GoPro at 10m depth that about a teaspoon of saltwater got into the housing. Goodbye GoPro... dead dead dead. The Hero 6 needs a marine housing, which is huge, and really expensive... so not sure what to do now...
Mako is a beauty
Why
that's a great shot you got of that little female mako.
clearly she was what the kingies were really afraid of, and with good reason.
I don't think it was the Mako they were afraid of. I saw a very large shark about 5 minutes before the kingies arrived. It was just visible below... about 20 meters away. I think it was a Blue... but could have been a bronzie (water was so blue that day and it was on the fringes of visibility).
Mako sharks are pretty cool looking
i love makos... they are beautiful
Is a Mako shark
Something smells fishy about all this.
Well for a mako its easy to catch a fish becauae he is the fastes shark of all of them I saw it on Animal planet you can learn much from that chanell
Wow. Mako shark 😱
Tax man took his bit!
Well done.
Oh, and Australia’s the best country mate, just thought I’d correct you😉
Maybe second best? lol
Cool vid
mako had his share
What camera is this mate ?
Hey bro, Hero 4 Silver. Had it on a headband... which is why you see me pull out of the water when the Mako got close... didn't want the teeth cutting my hand up!
A good camera that they still don't know how to use it..
Beautiful
The title says 2015 but was this 2016? Is this at the Mercs (never fail), I’m pretty sure we saw you there that same day if it was, we also had mako snatch a kahawai I had on rod and remember 2 spearos in an inflatable telling us about the manta Ray. We were on the yacht with my mate spearing from a little inflatable tender
Hahaha that is funny. Maybe I got the year wrong... I remember the yacht. We were there first thing in the morning when I got my kingy and saw the bronzies. Went back at the end of the day when it was all kicking off.
It was 2016, I remember you guys in the morning
Great footage!.. go Kiwi!!
Chur bro
Hey guys I'm trying to decide between a Garmin MK1 andaz Suunto d4f having a hell of a time trying to figure out which one to get I would appreciate some feedback
Garmin MK1
tlpoutdoorsman If you’re just using it for free diving, the Suunto will fit your needs more than enough and save you about $500-600
Wow
28 days later theme suits this
hahahhaaaaa
Nice vid like how you slowed it down to see shark.
Yeah, the GoPro software did an amazing job of that. Scary to see those teeth hanging out its face though!
belgianbeerfan I agree esp makos they tend to have that scarier appearance wit this chiclets hangin out
@@cannabis_culture518 Yes, Makos look more frightening than other sharks because of that. Tiger and bull sharks, who are many more agressive and dangerous dont look scary at all. Sharks from family Lamnidae look scary -Mako, Salmon shark, Great White and Porbeagle sharks. Sand tigers or grey nurses as well
3:55 shark
If one gets away, does it develop a Stand ?
Dunno what you mean....?
@belgianbeerfan It’s a reference to a certain bizarre adventure
@@mrfluffsalot8587 this might be my favorite RUclips comment of all time
lmao you didn’t just do that
Mr Fluffsalot ha
Owesome! But let the fish for the shark dinner next time, cause it’s beautiful! ))
My buddy had tried heaps, but never landed a kingfish with a spear before... he decided it was his turn. Fair enough. Sharks get their fair share, I assure you.
MAKO SHARK
Bloody awesome oh an a good Kai of kingie to.
Yeah - they are good eating. Is still one of my most epic spearfishing experiences. Only other that came close was a massive bronzie (well over 3m) that pestered me as I was snooping along the shore off Great Barrier. I think it was just curious... I kept moving along the coast, but after I saw it the 4th time I decided that I was best to sit on the rocks and wait for the boat...
ralfo kaukau uuu
Had a medium white encounter.
Never seen a Mako in the water, awesome.
I have another vid where I jumped in an filmed a mako in the water. My more experienced spearo buddies told me off. I won't do that again - even though risk is very low.
cool
i live in nz
Had to subscribe man
Thanks bro. Check out my Great Barrier vid... has a shot of me coming over a rock about 8m underwater... was about to shoot a kingfish... then see a massive bronzie underneath. Decided to leave the kingfish alone... lol. ruclips.net/video/YUlJ_-mpVeU/видео.html
sharp mako
U guys are crazy but it is beautiful
Only a little bit crazy.
Nz,best fishing on the planet. Shitty as gas prices lol
Would u both have shot a kingy at the end or too risky?
I would have if I had a gun that worked. His gun broke, so I lent him mine - he had never speared a kingy before.
Correct me if I'm wrong but that's a big mako
Yep, a beast of a Mako. It almost certainly wouldn't have harmed us if we stayed in the water, but I'm not brave enough to argue with a shark over a fish (some buddies are!)
Mako shark
Yellowtail Amberjack?
Yes, Seriola Ialandi
Nice wee mako shark
Hahhahaaaa.
You should get a chest harness for your go pro
Yeah... I tried a speargun mount, but killed my gopro. Had it mounted near the front and the mono got wrapped over it - the pressure of the kingfish weakened the seal and a small amount of water got in it... enough salt to kill it. :-(
Scary mako shark
Bro get in the water and defend your fish... You are reinforcing that type of behavior with the shark.
I spear with guys who swim their fish back to the boat - I do that now too. Not sure what I would do if in that situation again - I'd seen a very large shark, already speared a kingy and swam it back to the boat... and I had never (and not since) seen a bait ball of kingy's like that. They were scared... which is very unusual for kingfish... so that made me a little.... nervous!
Fair call but it was my 1st Kingy and we were already heading back to the boat because of to many sharks before I shot it. I've since had to jab big bronzy's who were trying to dominate but Mako's do have a reputation so not sure what I would do next time...
Check out my latest video - did a bit of defending…
Hey man awesome video spear fishing looks really fun but also pretty dangerous haha chur bro
Very very few spearos die from sharks. They do die from shallow water blackout, though. It is the breathhold that is more dangerous.
wooow!
Awesome video man, that marco was fuckin' beautiful, shame about the kingi though but mean video bro!
Still weighed over 10kg - even with the chunk taken out of it. Epic first kingy for my buddy!
What camera u use?
Hi mate, it was a Hero 4. I killed it a few years ago when mounted on the end of my gun. Speared a kingy and the mono wrapped around the gopro. The tension was enough to let a bit of salt water in at 10m deep. GoPro died....
Sorry about your fish and all - but that's some beautiful shark footage ...
We weren't worried about what we lost. Was plenty left to eat and share with family (whanau)
@@belgianbeerfan Yeah, Mako was being pretty reasonable about it :D, anyway - really nice video. I liked the narrative.
cant believe people get in these waters with literal monsters in there lol,
There are always lots of sharks around. Even around swimming beaches. You would be amazed. We are fortunate in NZ in that our sharks are not mammal feeders. They ignore people.
what a nice fishy xD
I’d shit myself if I ever see a shark. Seen too many attacks lately on RUclips 😂
is this at the mercs?
good guess!
Es un mako. El.tiburon
Very good. Come to encourage. Click to follow the channel. In Thailand as well
Bro your comments/replys on this vid are classic. I Have no idea how to spear fish but looks fun as fuck, would love to get that close to the mako too! #Jealous
Hahahah, yeah some interesting people out there. Spearfishing either captivates you or you hate it. It's a bit of a headspin and pretty tough on the body (breath hold and dives to 10-15m). I got closer to a Mako - my buddies told me off about this one... I jumped into the water to video it, but forgot my speargun in case it came at me. Buddies said "don't ever get in the water with a grumpy Mako". Point taken. Here is the vid... ruclips.net/video/joFk9QbYNPw/видео.html
This is why I don't blue water spear
Inshore is probably more dangerous as far as sharks go. White Sharks hunt pretty shallow.
Mako mako :)
Maynbe Longfinmako
BoGeun Kim Most likely a shortfin. A longfin would have been even bigger!
If the video had a better title, it would have millions of views
Hahahaha. Maybe. It is just a vid I posted to show my mates what I get up to.
Why only ten comments
I hadn't been watching... just approved a bunch...
never fail rock?.....cool vid
You been there?
belgianbeerfan yep. ...Gota spot at whangapoua. ...great viz at mercs
Yeah, amazing how much cleaner the viz is on the east coast of mercs compared to Coro coast.
Nice footage. Like the slow motion. Not a huge fan of spear fishing, hope you ate that fish.
Yeah bro - we always eat our fish.
Mako?
Yip
It's like an aggressive shark spiecie
@@belgianbeerfan He asks for Polo ✋
Nervous.
A little. A bait ball of Kingy's meant there were sharks chasing them... but boat wasn't too far away and I knew we could keep kingy away from us until we got to the boat.
Did they?....aaaa))
Mako... The worst shark in the water to encounter...
why?
How are makos the worst? Is it because they're faster than other sharks?
Uhhh... what?
Samsun55 great whitw
A mako, but they seem to not bother divers, only their fish.
It’s a mako shark
shibe shark
Yeet
Best is Germany 🤟🏽
Zum angeln ganz sicher nicht.
Looks like mako
Yep, a good sized one too....
No shit sherlock.
with a cast net u can get 14 of those fish
Ahhhh, but where is the fun in that?
belgianbeerfan true
alois hermida Don't be greedy, why would you need that many.
Ever heard of sustainability?
Bruh chill with the go pro can't see
Yeah sorry.
Keep the camera still holly crap
Yeah... annoying, I know. It's really hard to keep it still when mounted on your head. With so much action going on (ie sharks in the water) it's hard not to keep looking around - and it got a bit choppy later in the day which made it worse. So I changed to a mount on the end of my speargun. Alas, the line connecting my spear to the gun got wrapped over the GoPro case and the Kingfish I speared created enough pressure to compress the door. Because it was at 10m depth, the negative pressure inside the GoPro let the saltwater in... Goodbye GoPro.... The Hero6 is a backward step for underwater use under 10m... it is bigger!!! So haven't replaced it yet. Not sure what to replace with...
@Ej K I'm certainly no expert... but did you even watch the video? The kingy I speared was at 10 meters. It was my buddy who speared the kingy at the end from the surface - and it was about the 4th time he had ever been spearing. Your comment makes you look a bit silly.
damn clickbait thumbnail!!
That shot is in the video, but happens really quickly... I just didn't slow that section down.
Oh okay, i was thinking jesus this is a monster then was disappointed
