Excellent! Many good and standard engineering practices here. A note. It could have been the "where the 500 pound gorilla meets the 'tonics" as AvE would have said. The throttle switch/potentiometer is the most common place for battery powered tools to fail (but they are used in a messier environment though). Isolating the problematic component from the source (battery in the controller) to the end (actual motors) is the name of the game
I have made an rc plane for my scool project first it works great but after some time the throttle strats getting fluctuations in speed and can't even take a revolution it just fluctuates in its place pls help ???
quick tip and test it for your self. if your servos seem slow, upgrade or replace battery packs. I'm definitely ditching AA's and getting a rechargeable pack
so mine stalls when I use throttle, so it responds like a few seconds later. It doesnt reverse and it steers but it's only like a fraction(so if I steer fully to the right it only goes the littlest bit to the right as if I'm trying to change lanes on a highway)
Thanks for the informative video. A problem I'm having is that my receivers keep going bad. It started when I switched from brushed to brushless. Any suggestions? Again, thanks!
Thanks for sharing the info, I’m new on this RC stuff troubleshooting and I will be testing my c14 , what it does is turns backwards when driving forward for couple of seconds and stays like that for few more seconds then if I press reverse it goes fine for couple of seconds but same thing stays stuck for a moment then stops, I did not know where to start the troubleshooting.
I don't really know the C14 specs or functionality, but it is kind of a middle ground rc. Not toygrade, but still not Hobby garde. That being said, the first thing to check is always always make sure your battery is charged. On a hobby grade rc when the battery is low it will stop the motor but will still allow steering.
No on/off switch, When I plug in the battery nothing works, when I unplug the transmitter from the ESC the ESC powers up, starts to do it's beeps and the fan starts that's on top the ESC. Thanks for the reply! Perhaps My Son and I will be driving it again.
Huntington Beach Sasquatch Ok. The transmitter is the part you hold in your hand. The part that's connected to the ESC is called a receiver. It seems like your receiver may be shorted out.
Very good video, I have an xmaxx and long story short, i have steering but as soon as i touch the throttle in either direction, the esc completely shuts off , no flashing lights just shut down and it will turn on again and stay on until you touch that throttle. I tried your suggestion and swapped receivers with a Tmaxx and steering still works in either channel. Now I’m thinking motor, take to hobby shop, tested it and works. So if the esc is dead, why no error flashes. ?
Electronics can fail in so many ways. Its possible that activating the throttle completely shorts out the esc's systems and then it resets somehow. You took the motor to be tested, why didn't you do the same with the esc?
Ive got a volantex receiver, but its only got one slot wich is used for the servo, and the motor is soldered into the receiver by cables. But i will try to solder it again, it might been poorly soldered. But the problem is that when i pull the throttle the receiver keeps blinking and disconnectes
Been trouble shooting my sons RC. It started with no response in steering. I checked it out, and the servo had sand around it. I replaced the servo, and the new one had a steering response, but randomly didn't respond to left turns and would twitch. The company sent a replacement that has random no response also but the servo will twitch if I tap on the top of the controller.
Very informative, saved this video! I got a trx4 defender 2 months ago and my transmitter/radio won't turn on. Has brand new batteries (IV tested all 4 batteries) and have opened the radio to see if any wires were.lose but it all looks fine. Anything I should check for?
First I would contact traxxas for customer service. Other than that if power gets to the main board and it does not power up it could be the voltage regulator but i have no idea how its setup or what it looks like.
I have the same problem my rc car won't go forward i even tested with 2 different controllers and still won't move so it is most likely the IC in the receiver that i need to change. And very helpful info you shared
No way changing a friggin channel fixed my problem.wow thanks was going mad with a new transmitter and monsta esc.Changed channels and i have a response instantly.😁😁😁
A little late to this party but did you ever do that flow chart? Great information, I’ve got an hbx protector that has the led’s that start flashing when turned on but instead of staying on when the transmitter is turned on they turn off. When paired it doesn’t steer not accelerate
You are saying that you turn on the RC and the lights come on and then turn on the transmitter and they turn off? For starters you should never turn on the RC first. Have you tried turning it on without the servo connected?
My esc does not beep when it turns on but has a light and my steering works but throttle doesn't work when I press throttle theres a red light any suggestions?
Great video! Have a question. I own L3020 receiver and when i power on, it binds and stays on. When i use servo, it works. When i press the controller gently it moves the motor, but when i go full throttle or go backwards the light on the receiver goes out. No power. I have to switch off/on and there is the same. Any ideas? Any hints?
Hi. I got baja v2 with brushed motor. After some time of no use and sitting on garage shelf, now no reverse. Checked, by switching throttle with servo connectors in transmitter. Car moving forward by turning steering one side, no reverse if moving other side. Servo works both ways, by moving throttle forwards /backward.
@@TheLEDwheel there two jumpers, one for driving with/without reverse and second for battery type. I replaced original battery with lithium, replaced jumper aswell, and all was working great, till i left it in garage for a wile.
@@TheLEDwheel not sure, did not see any spec labels. It is original from baja v2. I had before transmitter connectors pulled and damaged pcb cells, so had to solder them, after that could not bind it any more. As result resoldered all soldering points and got it bined. Was driving baja in garden without reverse. Left battery to charge, now decided to go and try to swap receiver channels, to see if can see difference. But car did not pick up transmitter signal any more. Trying to bind but not successful so far. Transmitter is not reacting on binding button
I really appreciate the upload and the breakdown thank you. However my issue is similar to the third problem you were discussing in the end there where you have power to the ESC but you do not have power to the receiver. I have two new receivers and tried them both and for some reason I cannot get power to go to the receiver yet the ESC lights up. So I was wondering with a multi meter if there is a way to check power coming out of those wires specifically.
Yes if you have a Multimeter you can checkbthe voltage at the usually red and black wires. There should be some exposed metal on the connector where you can place the probes. Voltage in most cases is between 5 and 6 volts.
@@TheLEDwheel I have a terrible RUclips channel that’s not really worth mentioning but I broke it down there. It comes down to my ESC. I’m considering just replacing it All together with an upgraded one but I emailed the company to see if I can have them warranty mine out 1st. I purchased a new receiver because the LED was not lighting up and I wasn’t sure if the smaller receiver from flysky was even compatible with the Krayton 6S so I bought a new bigger sized one since they were only $30 and tried it yesterday. Soon as I got the new receiver & plugged it in the LED light started working so I thought to myself great! it was the receiver the whole time. Tried to bind the vehicle to the remote and could not, then I thought to myself well let’s plug the old receiver back in and see if we can get the LED working on that again and sure enough the old one started working again and it was just fine but I was unable to bind that one either. So I’ve narrowed it down to the ESC which is steady flashing it’s red light at me not allowing me to bind. Frustrating after two months of having the vehicle I’m currently researching to see if there’s any hard resets or something that I can do to try and just reset it myself because I really don’t want to buy another ESC but will if I have to. Thanks for the follow up! If you got any ideas I’d be all ears. Peace ✌️
Is there a way to troubleshoot a receiver stand alone using a voltmeter? Where does the receiver get it's power from? The esc? I get low voltage 0.4 v . What are the color code of the wires?
Yes there is, Generally the Darker colours indicate negative and Red or orange for positive. Most of the time its either Red and Black together or Orange and Brown. Yellow and white tend to be the data or signal. Most of the time the receiver will get its power from the ESC so if it is not giving out at least 5 volts it may be defective. I made a 2nd part for using a multimeter and other tests to help diagnose these issues. ruclips.net/video/FQ02aQcQKFg/видео.html&ab_channel=TLWtheLEDwheel
Ok what if your ESC does not respond unless re "binding" the remote every time you turn you car on?? I have a hpi savage xl and I fixed a couple things then after putting it back together I turn it on, no beeps from the ESC.... Turn the remote off and hold the bind button and turn it back on it then beeps. Wait 2 or 3 minutes it works?
I've had a receiver do this. I needed to rebind it every time. It still worked well, but I ended up changing the radio set completely as the receiver in question was no longer available.
I'm facing the same problem with the receiver after I installed a brushless system on my rc car. Channel 2 seem to have no signal to the esc to operate the motor but still can trigger a servo when I plug one on. Connect the esc to channel 1 and the steering wheel now control the motor. When I put the old brushed system back on, everything work fine. I'm thinking about getting a new receiver after I 've watched your video but it seems to be a little different with my case. So I would love to have some advice from your experience. Thank you!
@@TheLEDwheel no I haven't. But that esc work with my friend 's radio set without any programming. And it doesn't take throttle signal so I can't get into programming mode since I don't have the programming card.

Love the video. May I ask a question? My wife just brought back from China one of the those RC Transformer cars for our son and it doesn't work. The remote's light keeps flashing (not sure if it's supposed to flash or stay on) and when you turn on the car, it plays the intro music and just repeats the same intro over and over. The car doesn't respond to the remote. Any advice? I know these are cheap, but my son (5 years old) is so diasspointed. THANKS!
@@TheLEDwheel Thanks for responding. I only see an on/off switch. Would it be in the same area of the switch? I've looked this thing all over and can't find anything. Should the remote light always be flashing?
Hey, I have a 1:12 scale and it came with a 650 mah battery. It runs for two minutes and then shuts down under full throttle. Servo is still working but it dosn't drive. Could the battery just be to small?
Thanks for the video. How do I know if I have a bad ESC? Mine went through some snow, dried everything out and I don't get the normal loud audible sound from the ESC, very low/distorted sound, and the vehicle motor stopped working. The steering works. The ESC lights work with forward/reverse and I used volt meter to test the leads going to the motor and I get over 8 volts forward/reverse. I apply separate power to the motor only and nothing. So I think I have a bad motor and possibly a bad or damaged ESC. Thoughts? This is for a Arrma Granite 550 entry level stock rc truck, purchased in June of this year. Thanks for any feedback.
@@TheLEDwheel I used a AA battery, then a 9 volt battery and then yes the rc truck battery direct, no movement/sound, nothing. I'm very new to this hobby. Thanks for the quick response and for any helpful feedback.
@@TheLEDwheel Yes, it turns all 4 wheels and the motor spins, I did notice one of the plastic fins looks distorted, maybe slightly melted, I know this motor gets really hot normally.
Just had this problem last night. Pro Boat Stealthwake throttle just stopped operating. I checked battery power, connections, switched the channel connections and steering works, but motor wont turn shaft. Do you believe it's the esc receiver?
Great video. Did you ever create that flowchart? I am troubleshooting and can't determine why I dont get power to my receiver. Just purchased a new one thinking it was the receiver yet the new one does not light up when I make the connections and power the RC unit on,so I never get to the point where I can bind it. What can I test to see why I don't get the receiver light to come on?
Ok kinda new to the whole rc hobby always had the cheap box store break in 5 mins one finally traded some stuff for a kronos truck and ran fine for a few times out now will be fine for a while with part throttle but if you go full throttle it stays there till you turn power off to the truck it keeps steering and will go into reverse but stays at full throttle no matter what till truck power turn off then does fine when turned back on until full throttle Is hit again and FYI esc to motor wiring has small cracks in the wire coating no broken wires just the plastic around wires have tried putting electric tape on them with no change
@TLW theLEDwheel that's kinda the way I was leaning by what I'd seen on internet but no one really had similar enough problems to make sure I appreciate the info
I have a exceed mad torque rock crawler, it has a LED light kit on it everything works fine but when I turn my wheels back and forth either way it will lose all power, it won't steer and it won't drive forward or reverse and the lights go out and it won't come back on untill I wiggle the steering back and forth a few times, it only happens when I steer it one way or another. I have switched the wires so that the throttle controlled the steering and it didn't have this problem, it's only when the steering servo is plugged into the correct spot for the steering wheel to control the steering. I was thinking maybe my receiver is bad but I don't know much so I thought maybe you could give me your opinion of what you think might be wrong
You should make a video for the rc mattel batmobile. Alot of people are having trouble connecting it to there cellphones now that mattel doesn't support the app.
Great. I have a cheap boat that worked and now no longer works. Boat has power but the remote has no power. New battery but no light. Any suggestions on where to start? Thanks
In my case one channel , my right aileron, was not operating but the left one was normal. so i switched positions on the receiver and the right one worked, but the left did not. ….so this would indicate the receiver and servos are ok. So this is a tx setting problem ? if so what am i missing ?
I swapped the channels and it worked fine. So the throttle turned the wheels and turning made the car go reverse and forward. When I swapped back to how it is supposed to be the turning is fine but the throttle is random.
I have an E-Flite Apprentice that I nosed into the ground just before takeoff. I was able to get it running, but sometimes it runs and sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, nothing happens. When it does run, it goes like normal. Any ideas on how to fix that?
@@Superdoc7 not sure that would help. Toygrade electronics can differ greatly from one to the other unlike hobby grade setups that have common interchangeable systems.
Hello!! I am wondering if you have a quick pointer here. I have the same vintage 4x4 Radio Shack RC Truck as you have on your shelf on the right side. I have checked everything from CBP connections, motors, switches on the receiver and transmitter. Now I am stumped. When I touch the antenna on the truck with a screw driver it reacts erratically, not sure what that means. There is no communication between the controller and truck. What I remember is that a a child lifted up the truck pulling the antenna, and from that day on nothing. Thanks! Peace!
These RC'are a little harder to troubleshoot. First thing I would try is making sure the antenna is indeed still connected inside the truck. Make sure your batteries are good too. The screwdriver on the antenna is a good and bad thing. Is shows that it can indeed receive a signal (even if it's just noise) but also shows you there is no communication from the transmitter.
Thanks so much for the quick reply. I'm usually pretty handy fixing things, but this one is just baffling. Antenna is good, I will get new batteries. Thanks again! @@TheLEDwheel
@@TheLEDwheel I don't want to be a pest so I will only ask you for one more piece of advice, no need to feel obliged to answer. So all is intact and new batteries, checked potentiometer, motors, connections. Can't tell if the receiver/Transmitter uses a crystal, not sure what to look for, how can I verify if the transmitter is sending a signal, should I test with other controllers? Best Regards, Daniel
If you have another controller it would be ideal. I'm guessing the transmitter powers on!? You can carefully resolder all the points in the transmitter too.
@@TheLEDwheel I will do that. Because now I did something while fooling around (don't ask me why :)); I actually touched a 9 volt battery to one of the relays on the transmitter PCB and the truck started moving forward, so I know there is communication going on now. Might just clean all the points first to see. I truly appreciate your advice. Wishing you all the best for 2019!!
Hi I have a brushless setup on 1/12 scale, motor will work on channel 1 with steering and channel 2 with throttle. But servo does not work on channel 1 or 2 and it's new from Amazon, I have a replacement coming but is it the servo or transmitter that is faulty?
Did you make that flow chart? Great video! Here is my issue. I have power, lights work, turning front and back works, dig works. Everything but revers works. I took the transmission apart, from the driveshafts down. Both sets of trucks are smooth to the turn. I don’t really know what’s up with motors but this one when I took it apart was running without a second connection to the shaft of the motor internally. It was getting so hot this way that it set some leaves 🍁 in the chassis to smoking. Any idea what could have coursed this motor to stop reversing? Could this be my motor control or remote not sending revers signal?
theLEDwheel it seemed to me like the motor took a slam. Just went down to the shop to test the revers function on the remote. It now works in both directions but one direction has limited function still. Amazingly fast reply btw. 👍
Seems to have been a transmitter problem. Programming issue or something of the like. I’m really confused now. Thanks for being around! Great video. Definitely subscribed.
My Losi night crawler is only turning some times and seems like it has no power like when I trie to climb something it just don’t got the power to do it then my dads goes forward but not backword and when it even touches somthing it can’t go up it
I have a fast lane R.C Hennessey venom gt. Have a similar issue. The throttle (back wheels don’t turn) doesn’t work. It just produces a ticking sound. The front wheel turns, the lights and beep sounds work. Any ideas on what the issue could be?
Hmmmm, the issue with these entry level or toy grade RC's is most times the electronics are one board and not modular like hobby grade versions. I can only assume that the speed control section of the RC board is defective. I dont know if you can get parts for it or how long you had it for. If not long i would contact the seller or manufacturer for repairs or refund. Otherwise you may be able to upgrade it to hobbygrade electronics but thats not always worthwhile.
Ok what about this my rc boat has power and turns quickly but is not getting on the plane very easily anymore now my first thought was the shaft must need to be greased so I did so.. took it back out and same problem only slightly worse this time now with the boat I have it is known that the weak esc burn up easily but it hasn't gotten much hotter then normal I always give it 10-15 minutes to cool down while I run my smaller rc boat and then run it again so my issue I have determined is either the esc or the motor how do I determine which it is???
I have an Across Rockclimber when I play with it for it for few seconds it works fine but after that the motor disconnects and only the steering works. Any advise is it a radio issue ??
I think that it could be either the ESC is overheating or the LiPo cutoff is kicking in. Make sure the battery is actually charged(not just the light going out in the charger) and when you try to use it and it cuts off, check if the ESC and motor are hot. Like almost can't touch it hot.
theLEDwheel i have austar tx with rx and it comes with esc but not sure what Ampere is this. But wen I tried to install everything. It all works perfectly except there is no reverse.
So my situation is that the servo works and my new motor doesn’t so did what you said and so the servo works with the throttle but the motor doesn’t work with the steering so is the ecu bad? because it doesn’t work with the throttle?
@RainerKelly if the servo works on both channels then the RX is good. Your ESC or Motor may be faulty. What's the motor and ESC? Is it brushed or brushless.
Hi..I have same receiver and transmitter tha you do (got it 2 days ago) ...and when I'm done doing my electronics set up (exactly as you suggest) my car only goes reverse but no forward ...I tried everything, another motor, fully charged batteries ..and still having same issue ...can you tell me how can i fix this please?? thanks in advance

@@TheLEDwheel the radio has a rapidly blinking red light on it and I recently had to take it apart to fix a broken steering mechanism and since it hasn’t worked
That is important info. Check that your antenna is still connected inside the transmitter . Maybe try something. While binding, bring the receiver as close as possible to the transmitter antenna base area. If it binds, you possibly have a broken antenna wire.

Hi there. What components should I buy for me to test my rc? I think I have the same problem. I didn't remove the Batteries and I forgot to turn it off. It was ON maybe for 2 weeks. Then one morning the RC suddenly started running like hell. Without the remote. And after I removed the battery and put it backed fully charged , the RC won't accelerate /run anymore. What do u think happened? Thanks.
Sorry, can't help you with that. New bright are disposable rc's. Depending on the model you may be able to sell the body for a good price. As long as its 1/10 scale.
Two RC's by legendary 1/10 trucks. It powers up with steering. The motors are two and all they do is squill. Like they have power but won't turn. Any ideas?
Hi. Thanks for useful information. My problem is a bit different. Firstly when I turn rc on the esc flasing red light like in the video, just steering works. I reversed the channels to esc and servo. This worked for about ten seconds and stopped and again flashing esc. Only works steerings in these two situations. What s wrong and which part is fault?
Had a freak scenario today. Radio control inputs stopped working. Serpent Cobra GP rtr running stock electronics components/TX (Dragon-RC brand). Mid run, after 1st tank, the radio controls locked out and stopped responding to any inputs, but the throttle got "stuck" on the last input, which was around 30% throttle. Transponder was still getting power. Carburetor didn't jam. I wasn't able to regain any control of the car until the RX's power was reset, after which the RX was able to resume receiving signals and operate normally with no obvious change in servo function. The transmitter's power wasn't reset, however. Unfortunately, I forgot to check if the RX was still trying to send inputs to either servo (by moving their horns/arms). I also forgot to check if the RX would've engaged its failsafe by turning off my transmitter first. I was sure the TX was functioning fine but didn't check it at the time. Prior to the radio freak accident, it had 2 relatively minor crashes, one of which resulted in the car flipping on its back. There were no obvious signs of loose or wobbly connections (battery to RX & both servos). However, my RX's running with a shorter than usual antenna. The normally exposed portion of the wire was snipped off by the radio tray's antenna tube a couple of weeks ago. The distance the car was at when the radio controls locked out was likely still within the furthest distance the car had traveled from me. The battery is ~1 year old, although it had barely any use prior to me buying the Cobra. Had the cobra for about 2 months now. Is this something you'd be able to help out with? Thanks in advance.
Al B for starters the antenna on 2.4ghz receivers is relatively important as the length is tuned to frequency. Also having it as high up as possible will increase the distance. Apart from that, intermittent problems are a real PITA to fix. You obviously need to recreate the problem.
I still have the wire that got snipped off, but I didn't feel comfortable with trying to "repair" it by stripping off the wire insulator to the length of the part that got snipped. I had a look at a youtube video that talked about it though. Thanks for the very fast response :) By intermittent, are you referring to the 2 crashes or the transmitter? The crashes were caused by me not paying attention xD Besides trying to fix the length of wire (which is basically at 0mm past the insulation) and trying to raise the height of my antenna tube, are there any steps you think I could add to try to resolve the radio problems?
Al B intermittent as in does not happen all the time and goes away when trying to find the problem. As for the antenna, how much is missing? To repair it correctly would be to replace the wire from the board and not just solder it back together.
Yeah had a couple of other things come up since snipping off the antenna. The length of wire beginning from where the insulation stops. Unfortunately, I think the wire on my stock RX is apparently soldered onto the pcb. I asked my lhs about repairing or replacing the wire a day after it got snipped.
hello.. i've got proublem with my transmitter, the throttle doesn't work, and i checked everything like your video, and i suspect my transmitter the trouble.. are you have a tutorial for fix that? thanks
Well now you need to find a friend with the same radio and test your TX with thier RX and thier TX with your RX. If you don't have someone with the same radio then you will need to buy one.
I have a problem whereby the car will not run straight. The wheel and throttle both act in the same way and operate the steering lock left and right. Any idea in how to fix the problem?
I cannot find much info on this rc. These low cost items are what i call disposable RC's unfortunately. Depending on how long you've had it maybe the seller can help. I would suggest maybe a Redcat Gen 7 or 8. Its a great beginner truck but its hobby grade. All parts can be changed if broken and some upgrades are available.
Hey, I have an issue. My Himoto Buggy sometimes freaks out. It's either random twitching of steering wheels or it accelerates at random to full speed without touching the transmitter
Can't recall when it started, I didn't touch the buggy for some time, but it was fine for quite some time. I put it aside when it started with the mind of "I'll look into that later". All components are original, just modified into brushless version. What I noticed is that LED on receiver starts flashing red and green right before and during the freak outs. Turning the transmitter off and on usually fixes the issue as the Fail Safe kicks in

Great video on basic troubleshooting, can't find a better one.
Wow actually work thought i was gana have to buy a new esc or motor thanks!
This really helped me
Thank you bro for your troubleshooting knowledge it was very helpful
I have made an rc plane for my scool project first it works great but after some time the throttle strats getting fluctuations in speed and can't even take a revolution it just fluctuates in its place pls help ???
Rakshit Bhatt does anything smell burned?
quick tip and test it for your self. if your servos seem slow, upgrade or replace battery packs.
Nathan Languerand might want to check the settings on your transmitter and then rebind and reprogram the ESC.
This was great. Thanks for doing it. I need to diagnose exactly this and now I know how.

Could you please do the intro a bit louder. My speakers are still working 😆
I figured the kids are asleep right above us😂🙌🏻
Great video, got me thinking and all it was it loose connection in my motor wires.
What if the ESC only fires up when the transmitter is disconnected?
Connected Nothing Works.
AKA ...(Mr. Noob)
Huntington Beach Sasquatch as in the transmitter is off?
No on/off switch, When I plug in the battery nothing works, when I unplug the transmitter from the ESC the ESC powers up, starts to do it's beeps and the fan starts that's on top the ESC.
Thanks for the reply!
Perhaps My Son and I will be driving it again.
Huntington Beach Sasquatch
Ok. The transmitter is the part you hold in your hand. The part that's connected to the ESC is called a receiver. It seems like your receiver may be shorted out.
I'll get a new one, Thanks for the advise.
You took the motor to be tested, why didn't you do the same with the esc?
very informative! was having the exact problem thank you!
Ive got a volantex receiver, but its only got one slot wich is used for the servo, and the motor is soldered into the receiver by cables. But i will try to solder it again, it might been poorly soldered. But the problem is that when i pull the throttle the receiver keeps blinking and disconnectes
So its a combi ESC/receiver that's fine. Does it have a low voltage cutoff for LiPo batteries? Is the battery actually charged?
Thank you so much. So helpful your a legend
Could be a loose connection, but was this mentioned to the manufacturer/seller?

Great video! Have a question. I own L3020 receiver and when i power on, it binds and stays on. When i use servo, it works. When i press the controller gently it moves the motor, but when i go full throttle or go backwards the light on the receiver goes out. No power. I have to switch off/on and there is the same. Any ideas? Any hints?
Could be the BEC in your ESC is defective. Do you have an external BEC you can try?
Or you may need a glitch buster.
This model l3020 has integrated esc so I guess that i might need to exchange the whole thing?
Quite possibly.
Thanks for quick responses, would You advise on getting a better receiver with extenal ecs and bce?
Good tips, bro! New to the hobby and this was very informative! Thanks!
Very interesting.. so question what when my rc hits a bump or takes a small jump it shuts off. What could cause that?
Mynfirst thought is a bad connection. Check to make sure your connections are making proper contact.
Are there jumper settings on the ESC?
@@TheLEDwheel there two jumpers, one for driving with/without reverse and second for battery type. I replaced original battery with lithium, replaced jumper aswell, and all was working great, till i left it in garage for a wile.

@@TheLEDwheel you got a new sub. Really appreciate that & I’ll go try that. THANKS!
@@ColinDresser so whats the result of your test?

Thank you, very clear and easy to understand.
thank you man i fixed it becous of you
I'm facing the same problem with the receiver after I installed a brushless system on my rc car. Hey,
I have a 1:12 scale and it came with a 650 mah battery. It runs for two minutes and then shuts down under full throttle. Servo is still working but it dosn't drive. Could the battery just be to small?
Depending on what type of RC it is, 650mah is pretty small for a 1/12 scale. What RC is it exactly?
A carson mountain warrior Sport. It has a 380 motor
Says running time 30 minutes. Either your battery is finished or the charger is not properly charging it.
Okay. Thanks a lot for the fast help!
So you connected the battery directly to the motor?
@@TheLEDwheel I used a AA battery, then a 9 volt battery and then yes the rc truck battery direct, no movement/sound, nothing. I'm very new to this hobby. Thanks for the quick response and for any helpful feedback.
If you hold both rear wheels and try to turn them together will they rotate and spin the motor?
@@TheLEDwheel Yes, it turns all 4 wheels and the motor spins, I did notice one of the plastic fins looks distorted, maybe slightly melted, I know this motor gets really hot normally.
Does the motor smell bad. Like burnt electrical wires?
should there be a lite on power swich if that is defective could that stop it from working
Just had this problem last night. Pro Boat Stealthwake throttle just stopped operating. I checked battery power, connections, switched the channel connections and steering works, but motor wont turn shaft. Do you believe it's the esc receiver?
Connect power direct to the motor to see if the motor runs. If it runs then I would def suspect the ESC.
@@TheLEDwheel Thank you. Good video. I liked and subscribed. I will try that.
Great video. Did you ever create that flowchart? I am troubleshooting and can't determine why I dont get power to my receiver. What can I test to see why I don't get the receiver light to come on?
Carlos Arnavat right of my guess would be your ESC is defective. Since you tried two receivers and get the same result. It's all about elimination.
Sounds like a bad ESC.
@TLW theLEDwheel that's kinda the way I was leaning by what I'd seen on internet but no one really had similar enough problems to make sure I appreciate the info
@roberttate195 If you have a hobby shop nearby, they can try another ESC before you spend on a new one.

Great. I have a cheap boat that worked and now no longer works. Boat has power but the remote has no power. New battery but no light. Any suggestions on where to start? Thanks
Make sure the battery has power/charged. Otherwise start following the power line. You may have to open the transmitter. A multimeter would def help.
In my case one channel , my right aileron, was not operating but the left one was normal. so i switched positions on the receiver and the right one worked, but the left did not. ….so this would indicate the receiver and servos are ok. So this is a tx setting problem ? if so what am i missing ?
@KenastonKid could still be the rc or TX. Only way to rule that out is another TX or rx to test with.
When a brushed motor just whines and doesn't spin is it burned out? I'm used to brushless so I've never burnt out one.
By itself or installed in an rc?
I swapped the channels and it worked fine. So the throttle turned the wheels and turning made the car go reverse and forward. When I swapped back to how it is supposed to be the turning is fine but the throttle is random.

I think that it could be either the ESC is overheating or the LiPo cutoff is kicking in. Make sure the battery is actually charged(not just the light going out in the charger) and when you try to use it and it cuts off, check if the ESC and motor are hot. Like almost can't touch it hot.

Thanks for the very fast response :)
By intermittent, are you referring to the 2 crashes or the transmitter?
The crashes were caused by me not paying attention xD
Besides trying to fix the length of wire (which is basically at 0mm past the insulation) and trying to raise the height of my antenna tube, are there any steps you think I could add to try to resolve the radio problems?
Al B intermittent as in does not happen all the time and goes away when trying to find the problem.
As for the antenna, how much is missing? To repair it correctly would be to replace the wire from the board and not just solder it back together.
Yeah had a couple of other things come up since snipping off the antenna. The length of wire beginning from where the insulation stops. Unfortunately, I think the wire on my stock RX is apparently soldered onto the pcb. I asked my lhs about repairing or replacing the wire a day after it got snipped.
Al B might cost less to replace the Rx
What does it mean if you plug in a servo in the reciver and the reciver and esc shut off ?
Servo might have a short. Try another setvo.
hello.. i've got proublem with my transmitter, the throttle doesn't work, and i checked everything like your video, and i suspect my transmitter the trouble.. are you have a tutorial for fix that? thanks
Just the throttle does not work?
@@TheLEDwheel yep, but actually it doesn't work completely, sometimes it still works, but only about 5-10% throttle, then it doesn't work at all
Have you tried reprograming the esc?
@@TheLEDwheel i try the esc with my friends rx tx,its work,normal ..
More details. Car? Radio? Esc? Servo?
@@TheLEDwheel I don't have that info as it's a kids model from China and it came without any details .. It's called tokin rodeo 4x4 rock crawler 1/12.

Does this happen when it's near or far?
As far as I tried it happens when it's closer to the transmitter
Things like this are difficult to troubleshoot. From experience it may be a bad antenna, RF interference or simply bad components.
Turning the transmitter off and on usually fixes the issue as the Fail Safe kicks in
Try re binding the TX and RX to see. Could be the TX is loosing its ability to stay connected to the RX.
I built my losi 8ight e to go 100 mph. I use a 6s battery..i have 2 batteries i swith between.. now all the sudden it wont go over 80mph on either battery..i checked for anything binding. Bearings etc. It hauls ass up to 80 mph..it used to always go over 95 mph one either of the 2 batteries..any ideas?
I have a question about a trophy rat truck is just dead I replace the ESC and is still debt
Any lights come on and flashing on esc and receiver?
I watched your video several times and I figure it out is to receiver that's dead
Or in my case, I got 2 garbage servos from Amazon. Tip don’t buy the anodized green servos. Buy the red ones 😁
Great simple into the point video I love it
What do you check when the battery does not power up the receiver to bind radio. I tried two receivers and used charged battery on a new plane!!!
I'm guessing it's an electric plane!! Check your ESC to see if it's giving power to the receiver.
It is a brand new plane and i would have cut into the fuselage to get to the esc but i agree i know it is a bad esc
If it's brand new maybe contact the seller or manufacturer.
K I have a weird problem or I’m dumb. Got a new transmitter/receiver FS-GT3B and flysky waterproof receiver. Was driving it around and then stopped, turned my car off then my tx. Then I came back turned my tx on then my car. Nothing worked! (All in a time period of 5 minutes!) I noticed the was blinking a slow red? Got new receiver that didn’t work I know my motor/servo are good. What could be going on? Do I have some weird fail safe setting tripping? Batteries are fully charged?
Have you re binded?
hi sir. can we use the difrent model receiver to difrent model transmitter like skyfly receiver and Eximitter transmitter .??
Generally you can't mix brands.
Hey cool video, you seem to know you stuff with Esc's and electronis. I was wondering if you could help me with my Esc issue. When I turn my rc on and give it throttle the engines just violently goes into forward and reverse back and forth rapidly. I tried it with a working engine out of another rc to make sure it wasn't the motor that was bad, and it was the same thing. give it throttle and the engine just goes forward and reverse back and forth super fast and violently and the wires on the esc heat up very quickly. Is this a dead esc? Thanks!
Have you tried re synching the esc with the radio? I have had an ESC lose its sync and did some weird stuff like that. If you can, connect the esc to a different receiver and/or try the radio set on another ESC.
So when I switch the servo and motor channels and it works does that mean I need to replace the receiver
What works and what was the initial problem?
@@TheLEDwheel my initial problem was that my servo turns but my motor doesn’t spin so I switched them on the receiver and the both work but throttle controls steering and vice versa same thing in the video.
Thats a bit more troubling.. they both work in opposite outputs but not in thier proper positions. Have you tried reprogramming the ESC to the Trottle port?
@@TheLEDwheel not yet but I will! Thanks for your help!
The issue im having is intermittent reverse i have slide adjustment if i go full reverse on the slide i can get it to work but it doesnt work for long? Any ideas?
Have you tried another ESC?
Hey there I have a 450 heli,my problem is my heli was flying and now at idle up it's fine until I try lifting off the power dies. And when I bring throttle stick down and up again it works until lift off again shutting down. Please help thanks.
Battery charged.. have a tester to check it?
Hi, is it possible to disable the beeping sound when accelerating or decelerating?
On what rc? What equipment.. ESC, Motor?
I just got an RC, and it's going crazy, im following instructions manual on how to bind, nothing works , if I switch channels on the receiver and nothing changes, does that mean I have a bad receiver?
Could be the transmitter as well. If its new call or email the company.
My 1:18 ix mad racing RC Car is taking turn, moving backward but not forward. What to do ?😢
While pulling remote control , beep sound from car but no movement . Please help me
Do you know for sure that the battery is charged?

Hi! I have a curious problem. I bought a hobbywing 10bl120, surpasshobby 5900kv and radiolink system. Calibrated EPA on ESC. When i goes at medium throttle and hit 100%, motor reacts with some "delay" and keeps pushing throttle about 0.5-1 sec ... its so dangerous. I adjust punch mode and no results. 6200mah 50C
Do you know what happen? thanks
Why would you set an epa on the esc?
@@TheLEDwheel is in point 1 of instruction manual..
Ok I see, EPA at 100% on chanel 2 for the ESC. Punch mode only applies from take off so won't change anything mid throttle.
Any other settings changed on the radio.

I put the steering on channel 2 and my throttle turns the wheels but my wheel on the radio doesn’t turn it does that mean my radio has a problem aswell cause the only channel that works is 2
Now you need to try a known good Receiver to determine if its the transmitter or the receiver. Or, a know good transmitter.
I got a traxxas xl 5 hv 3 s esc that’s stuck in lipo LVD mode (low voltage detection) and I’ve tried everything to disable it followed instructions watched videos reset it and nothing works I got my truck from a friend which ran lipos in it I run nimh in my trucks so when I tried turning LVD off it didn’t work because the truck ran for a minute before dying the steering works but truck just doesn’t move with a full charge battery traxxas couldn’t figure it out either
