Constantine is a 2005 American superhero horror film directed by Francis Lawrence in his directorial debut. Written by Kevin Brodbin and Frank Cappello, it is based on DC Comics' Hellblazer comic book. The film stars Keanu Reeves as John Constantine, a cynical exorcist with the ability to perceive and communicate with half-angels and half-demons in their true form. Its cast also includes Rachel Weisz, Shia LaBeouf, Tilda Swinton, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Djimon Hounsou, Gavin Rossdale, and Peter Stormare.
Constantine was theatrically released in the United States on February 18, 2005. It grossed $230.9 million worldwide against a production budget between $70-100 million, but met with a mixed reception from film critics. In Mexico, a scavenger recovers the tip of the spear that pierced Jesus Christ from a ruined church and, after becoming possessed, takes it to Los Angeles. There, cynical occult expert John Constantine exorcises a demon from a young girl after witnessing its attempt to come through her to Earth, something that should be impossible because of a treaty between Heaven and Hell. Suffering from terminal lung cancer, Constantine meets with the half-breed angel Gabriel to request an extension to his life in exchange for his work deporting Hell's forces. Gabriel responds that performing good deeds for selfish reasons will not secure his way into Heaven.
Elsewhere, detective Angela Dodson is investigating the death of her twin sister Isabel who leapt from a psychiatric hospital roof. Angela refuses to believe her sister, a devout Catholic, would commit suicide, condemning her to Hell. Watching security footage, Angela hears Isabel say "Constantine", and seeks out his assistance. He refuses to help until he witnesses demons pursuing Angela and fends them off. He uses a ritual to see Isabel in Hell and confirms she killed herself. Constantine tells Angela that he committed suicide as a teenager because he was traumatized by seeing supernatural creatures and, though he was revived, when he dies he is condemned to Hell.

Correct....but he still and we all saw he still kept on smoking regardless of being saved like giving Lucy a middle finger to his healing abilities on him

In the Comic a "scientist" or Magician called The Upside down man cured John.

Constantine's terminal illness was addressed in the movie. He had lung cancer. Near the end (I won't go into detail because I don't want to give spoilers), the devil digs into Constantine's chest and removes the cancer so that he will live a long life and hopefully sin enough to find his place back in Hell.
i was going to say that, this movie is my favorite. i bought the comics last year. in the comics he summons the 4 main demons under satan. he summons 1 at time, tells each that he wants to sale his soul to them an they can personally collect on his death. he dies an all 4 show up thinking each is owed his soul an go to fight each other over it. constantine tells them if they heal his cancer they wont have to go war with each other, so they give him demon blood to heal him an return him to earth.
That is one of the better parts in the movie. LOL

If I were Keanu I would buy the rights of Constantine and create the film. This would make him hundreds of millions.

He frequently uses his paycheck to give back to the production crew. After matrix, a small Australian vfx company developed the technology for the 360 degree filming capture, he gave a large portion of his money to them and they are now one of the biggest animation and effects companies in the world, Animal Logic. After John wick, he bought his 3-4 stunt men custom made motorcycles each. He has spent a period of time living on the streets and focusing on the homeless people. He doesn’t give any f$&ks to give with dollars.

The Batman and Joker are not 'DC Elseworlds' because they came out before 'Elseworlds' was a thing. Constantine is way better than most of the DC films put out since Constantine came out.

I hope if Constantine II goes forward it carries the same quality as the first which was one hundred times better than the Batman & Joker movies.
He used and is in hell and an angel breaks him out due to a bigger threat. Something is threatening the universe but god nor the devil can act due to the deal. Only John can, like James Bond. He leads of team of people across hell, heaven and beyond. Done.
Give them time, the studio heads will find a way to make it full blown woke and will ruin it just like they do with all sequels now a days.

I don't want a reboot. I would enjoy seeing a sequel. I also think they should add more angels and demons battles with Constantine and why they have such issues.
Shia's character died in the first one. I know that doesn't mean much in the comic world but he was a secondary character so I doubt they'd bring him back.

At the end when Lucifer is about to lose Constantine to heaven he reaches into John's chest and pulls out his cancer. He wanted John to live so he could have another chance at taking John's soul

I hope they use BOTH Constantines. Matt Ryan deserved more than he got. It should also be noted for those who don't know: Keanu's portrayal is actually Canon. It's just an alternate universe.

So, a month late. However i have to point out something. Some viewers complained that hell is portrayed as a scorching day in LA? Yep. Sounds about right. Matter of fact. That may be a little too kind to LA.

Why not introduce Constantine as the means by witch all of the supernatural aspects of DC come into continuity? Make it part of the main universe. He's a great character and they could do with him what stupid Marvel should've done with Dr. Strange.
Constantine 2 would be better than a reboot in my opinion because the first movie is great. It should just move on to a new story rather than going back and focusing on the first film idk why they would set it in their minds that's what they have to do if they did a sequel its stupid. But so is rebooting it too because Keanu Reeves kills it

I disliked both the Batman and Joker movies referenced. So would probably not like it.
Batman was great. Joker was boring. Batfleck deserved a solo movie he is the goat batman. Then Patterson. Then Keaton then Bale. Bale sucked as Batman. Voice sucked. Fights sucked. Too many jump cuts and not being able to see the fights. Batman movies should not have jumpcut fights, that you can't see. The warehouse fight in BvS was nearly perfect and the fights in The Batman were great. Those are the standards for me
so it has to be exciting and woke enough lol
