When watching 360 videos, make sure to manually turn up the resolution to the highest setting your internet connection can handle otherwise it will appear too soft.
Thanks for that tip. I had the auto setting on and it put me at 480. Thought I needed glasses. Then switch the setting to the highest level and BAM! No glasses needed....crystal clear. 👍
@@ianPedlar She does that so casually. That water doesn't look very clean. ; ) Also where the hell can she climb out of the canal? The walls are like 5 feet up.
As someone who's never been sailing but binged this whole adventure in the past few weeks (and it jussssst so happens I have an Oculus Go headset), I found the shot from the sterm where I can look up and see what the windex is doing in relation to the sail extremely enlightening. Iv picked up the basics of how sailing should work but this makes it "lightbulb" in a whole new way. Awesome stuff. I want a boat...
Wow...I felt like I was right there with you guys! I loved the camera positioning out in front of the bow at water level and also behind the stern (not an easy shot). You certainly put a lot of effort and time into this production and is much appreciated. Thanks for the adventure.
I truly like your electric motor. No noise to disrupt the environment. No oil or fuel to pollute the water, plants or creatures life. Your adventure with this engine is well worth the investment. Bravo to you.
It’s a great technology but I think your edited videos are more entertaining. Watching you dock was great, and you quiet electric motor is wonderful. I wonder whether a insert of 360 with a narration voice over would be a good format. Like 30 secs at the end to let us experience the Anchorage while you sum up the day, thank patrons etc.
Yes That would be nice to include a short 360 scene into regular videos. Unfortunately you cant mix 360 view with normal footage. It’s a either or situation.
Wow this was really great! I have had bad experiences before with 360 video but decided to give this one a try. It was so cool - I could look around and see all kinds of things happening - rewind and see on the other side of the boat. The only disturbing thing was to look aft and see the back stay was severed - doh! Great job on the docking attempt Kika - although not perfect the boat owner to your starboard looked concerned and then was like - whatever she know what's going on and had no more worries and went below. Nice job look forward to seeing another. Thanks and cheers!
So cute seeing you two figure out docking in the locks and stuff. It's routine stuff in the Netherlands. Stick around a while and you'll be pros in no time. If you're around in October, you should join a local ship for the Beurtveer: a three-day race on traditional ships in and out of multiple harbors with no engines allowed! It's intense but super fun.
Well, it took a couple of weeks, but I finally finished binge watching your channel (good thing we are still in lockdown, I have the time!). Super impressed how you didn’t wait for perfect before you pushed away from the dock, how Dan problem solves and sailorizes, and how good Kika’s editing has gotten. It was fun seeing your boat now and how it started and seeing when the changes happened, but you haven’t explained the evolution of your winch handles and it drove me crazy seeing them move around the boat and then the cool new flippy ones appear randomly!
I so enjoy your allowing me to sail while living in the Mountains. It is my guilty pleasure I have been giving myself when I get a break from treating patients. I especially enjoy the 360 videos. TY for making these available!
Kika. Your docking was wonderful. Your attitude, both of you would make anything you two do interesting. Thank you for all your work, keeps an old man occupied and happy
You're always trying something new for us to enjoy and this 360 was very watchable and the audio wasn't too bad either. Looking forward to more of your adventures.
The best 3D I’ve seen. Especially liked the outboard shots as it wasn’t immediately obvious how you achieved it. Started looking upwards first of all for a drone. Really good effort. Thanks guys.
Somebody should make a telescopic mast with this camera for yachts and cars. It would sell like crazy. Easy to park and dock. The surround view systems today look way too distorted to judge distances and objects.
This is AMAZING! I had fun playing with the 360 dial. I heard a big splash when you were first heading out and I was able to go back, turn the dial 180 degrees, and see that it was just a young girl in a two piece that jumped into the canal, and not an expensive piece of equipment falling off the boat. Can't wait for 225...
Hey guys! First, I just want to say you both are fantastic and I've loved your channel since you've started! The 360 is a great idea and cool to see on a phone, however I primarily watch your channel streaming to my tv which makes it awkward. Is there a way to have a choice of which way to watch? Take care guys:)
I just discovered your channel a few days ago, and I quickly became a fan. I can’t imagine the hard work you guys put into making these awesome videos for us, so thank you for the great content!
I seen this tech in RV and boat selling videos but man, I never knew you can make a movie this way. It like a 3D movie only better. there was this different dimensional shift with your mask and lines to right of center and disappears in space, it was weird but great visual effect. Sea waves looked realistic and bigger. Then I got suck into watching two people in a dingy following you all the way to the dock, wondering what they where up to, pirates or just happen to be going the same direction you where going I guess. Cheers!!!
If I experienced this on anything other than google earth, or google moon, I don’t remember it, so this is an awesome way to enjoy your or all sailing videos who are able to record this passage. Am so glad I caught this video to save on my Uma playlists. See as I have mentioned before, I was a professional sailor, dealer, rigger, and licensed Captain for over 17 years and was impressed with your hurricane preparations and rigging when you went through that storm. Especially your explanations of ground tackle, and deck preparations. So I created a private playlist dedicated to your sailing videos. You never disappoint!!!
This was a really cool effect. I don't remember the other 360° video. I'm watching on a PC, I kept trying to use the control at the top left of the video screen to pan around but moving the mouse caused the video title to pop up and the control to move down and I kept accidently pausing the video. What I found that worked well was the arrow keys on my keyboard. I had a lot more control and the video title doesn't pop up leaving the video presentation clean.
Hello my friends, I don’t believe, unless I was standing on the boat that you could do this any better. It was amazing and I loved it. Stay thirsty my friends
It has been mentioned a few times already below but how impressive: a boy shouts to his friends when you leave the inner harbour: 'This is sailing Uma, she has crossed an ocean'. Would you have believed that a 12 or 14 year old would recognize you and know about you?
This 360 video is so much better than the first one. The new Equipment really shows. Goo tip on manually setting to highest resolution...1080p just doesn't hack it. This was so much more watchable than the first. Really want VR to get the full experience! Keep up the good work!
Much better than the first 360, which I was not too impressed with. I think my favorite part, not that the rest wasn't enjoyable, was at the end when I got to do a full 360 of the interior. You two have done a marvelous job of fixing that old boat up.
This was fantastic. Maybe my only chance to join you on a sail. The port you left was super quaint. I may have to watch this multiple times and the experience is different each time. Thank you.
Love the 360* Made me feel like I was right there with you. You both should be so proud of all that you’re doing. You’re living the dream for so many of us. ❤️
Outstanding! Loved being able all the activity it took to undock; to get thru the locks with the kids cheering Uma from the shore; the at sea 360 view with Kira posing on the bow; docking Uma and going below deck with you two. What is amazing about 360 that isn’t as apparent in non-360 is how large and spacious the galley is. Great!
Started watching from Step 1 about two weeks ago and delightfully binged my way through your beautiful videos. Your 4K looks like theater quality on my 70 inch TV! I was sad to reach present day. So, I’ve gone back and started from the beginning. I love watching and knowing what you didn’t know at the time LOL. Can’t wait for Uma’s next adventures (and inevitable updates). Thank you for sharing.
Love the interior 360 at the end - a wee preview of the much anticipated 2nd part of the boat tour "before and after"! BTW: I'm a patreon as a contribution to Hefty Susan - such a cool storage item!
Is nobody else amazed by the water bridge?!?... there's literally a road going under the locks... and not like a tunnel, it's literally a boat / water bridge
Fun fact. The reason the Netherlands has so many (over 30) of these is specifically because of recreational sailing vessels. Due to masts, having car bridges would either require traffic interruptions for draw bridges, or real high bridges (which also come with a larger horizontal footprint). The waterbridge/car tunnels are simply cheaper. Also having car traffic below the horizon is an effective car noise suppressing methodology, which is good because nl is densely populated.
Indeed there are many ‘aquaducts’ in the Netherlands: a road crossing a water way by going underground/under water. However: a road beneath a lock is pretty unique. This ‘Naviduct’ was the first one in the world and is established in 2003!
There are some in England too where canals go over roads. Weedon Bec has the Grand Union Canal go over a road and over the a tributary of the river Nene. These were viaducts built in the 1850s. Very cool I think!
Very cool. I found that if I pause the video at an interesting place, I can then still look around, and not miss something because the boat moves away! I'll never finish the video at this rate!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. you have gotten me through this COVID nightmare. I began in Jan with Project Atticus and then found you two in Feb. Have crammed your past five years into the past five months. Now I'm dying with nothing to watch until your next release. Keep up the great work. Love you dearly.

The sound of Uma slicing the water at 12min was so atmospheric. I will now have to watch it another twice so I can catch all the different views. Super job.
Thoroughly enjoyed this. Love you two, your design esthetic, sailing ethic, and beautiful videos. All the different angles were fun. A freeway going under the lock? Funky. I guess a bridge would be too easy, or an eyesore?
Kika, you did amazingly going through the pillars! Our boat search is beginning in earnest as we speak!!! I so excited to start exploring. I really liked the 360⁰ change up.
Amazing video. I enjoyed the girl jumping off the lock after you passed them. Heard the splash, backed it up a bit and saw her dive into the canal. Was impressed with how mobile the camera was and all the different perspectives. A great addition to your photo tools.
Kika and Dan...another great National Geographic-quality presentation!!! I would like to see a behind the scenes on this though about the 360 camera technologies, benefits, and shortfalls. The editing during camera moves caught me off guard the 1st time but I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. Fair Winds and Following Seas!
I’ve done a little shooting in 360 and can’t even imagine how big the file was. This was my second favorite video yet(how can you beat the electro-belle install?)!
Never before has the screen on my iPad been swiped from side to side and up and down so frequently. What a super 360.. Loved it. More please. John of Gosport.
Great video! The audio was good enough to enjoy. Agree with others that focus was more of an issue, but didn’t really detract from the overall experience which was great!
that episode was insanely good, I really enjoyed the 360, I went back a number of times to see parts again. It must take up huge amounts of memory but would like to see again..Really Really enjoyed it!!
Well done, leave it to a Canadian guy to create a great video . Of course that automatically includes bus soulmate. Well done, from another Canadian sailor. "MAY THE WIND ALWAYS BE IN YOUR SAIL"
Great quality. Very enjoyable to watch. I heard a sound of someone jumping into water at 5:20 but did not know where it was coming from. When I rewound and looked the other way. I could see the source of the splash. Very cool. You two do a great job. I don’t know how you get the 360° “drone” shots. Cheers.
Brilliant thank you. A lovely glimpse into a beautiful location as you sail out. I watch Bondi Treasure Hunter as he magnet fishes the canals in Amsterdam and travels about and it’s like Uma, in that you get such a personal look into a location. That would be a great team up for an episode if you go back, to see what’s under the surface you sail on. Kika, thank you. Your writing of late has been so powerful and one of the best acknowledgements and responses from a RUclips participant. I understand that not everyone should comment. The Black Lives Matter movement is a hand grenade for many youtubers to comment on and yet you have responded with such wisdom, grace and purpose. You have maintained that poise in the comments section as well where you are still opening minds up and using your responses to comments as teachable moments. Politicians always talk about winning hearts and minds. I believe you have Uma followers hearts ♥️ already and your writing is thought provoking and educating, thus you are reaching minds. We all like to think of ourselves as sagacious however mostly, we are not. Your wisdom is apparent and I appreciate that you are opening minds and ‘winning’ them in an effective kind manner. The flow on effect could be generational and you are the reason for that. It’s staggering. Thank you.
Just started watching Sailing Uma and I love this 360 video. It would nice to see more of some of the little towns that you visit in the 360 view (the high beginning mount spot was my favorite). Uma is a beautiful Sailboat and it looks like you have done a wonderful job fixing her up to fit your needs and wants. Thank you for sharing your adventure with us all.
So fun to do a little sailing with you two! Thanks for the ride! Neat choice of Cam positions. Good variety. Well edited. Liked watching the girl jump into the canal.
HOLY CRAP!!! That was awesome! Unbelievable! Just a heads up. I was watching on an Xbox and you can use the joystick on the controller to pan! Tell Uma Nation it's the coolest way to watch 360. Yo, Dan....going to have to get a fresh Maple Leaf, that one's looking a little tattered...lol! Keep it up! "Keep yer stick on the ice, eh!" 🇨🇦🏒 Moncton, NB
We Loved the journey, especially along the waterway moving from side to side, watching the people watching you. The water bridge was cool. Good job Kika,...Safe travels.
Very cool guys, love just hearing the sound of the boat, waves and wind. Looks an amazing place and those bells as you headed out were perfect. Andy UK
This was so awesome. Strapped on the ol' VR headset and it was so much fun. One thing was the end in your cabin was a little motion-sickness inducing because the camera was positioned wrong. But I absolutely loved this. If you did all your videos like this I would thumbs up every episode. Can't wait for the next 360 vid.
When watching 360 videos, make sure to manually turn up the resolution to the highest setting your internet connection can handle otherwise it will appear too soft.
Thanks for this bit of information
Thanks for the tip :) Was watching in 720 (Auto) and 4k is definitely better :)
Thanks for that tip. I had the auto setting on and it put me at 480. Thought I needed glasses. Then switch the setting to the highest level and BAM! No glasses needed....crystal clear. 👍
Thanks that made a huge difference
This is good advice sir! Went back for a second watch!
The little boy in the beginning just after the bridge says, 'this boat crossed the ocean!' haha he knows his classics!
That and they're flying a Canadian flag.
He also says: “no, rly, you should look that up: Sailing Uma”

Loved it. So much fun to just look around at everything. I wouldn't worry too much about the volume. Its more about the show.
6:03 looking left at the control house...and see cars and trucks moving past under the boat...First Boat Bridge over a roadway that I've ever seen!
Hypnocracy welcome in the Netherlands, we ‘ve a lot of them (aquaduct)
that episode was insanely good, I really enjoyed the 360, I went back a number of times to see parts again. It must take up huge amounts of memory but would like to see again..Really Really enjoyed it!!
should live stream the 360 on all passages : )
If we have decent cell signal... we just might. But probably not here on YT. Maybe on our Vimeo. Then when Starlink come out, we'll be set!
Well done, leave it to a Canadian guy to create a great video . Of course that automatically includes bus soulmate. Well done, from another Canadian sailor. "MAY THE WIND ALWAYS BE IN YOUR SAIL"
Hands down coolest thing I've seen on RUclips. Technology is pretty cool sometimes...
Been following you for years live in Miami on my boat thank you guys are so talented and so smart love you
Wow, that 360 camera is amaaaaazing. Thanks.
Cheers.
Really superb video, guys! The video quality (and editing) is outstanding. As always, thanks much for sharing.
Steve
That’s amazing, viewed on my phone. Lol any body watching me would have thought I am nuts. Great video.
Keep it up!

We Loved the journey, especially along the waterway moving from side to side, watching the people watching you. The water bridge was cool. Good job Kika,...Safe travels.
Great 360. A major improvement over the earlier camera. Enjoyed viewing the town where you put the Uma on the hard. I'm looking forward to more 360's
Very cool guys, love just hearing the sound of the boat, waves and wind. Looks an amazing place and those bells as you headed out were perfect. Andy UK
What an unusual experience turning my phone around!! Thanks!! 👍
this was wild seeing everything in 360...fantastic job
This was so awesome. Strapped on the ol' VR headset and it was so much fun. One thing was the end in your cabin was a little motion-sickness inducing because the camera was positioned wrong. But I absolutely loved this. If you did all your videos like this I would thumbs up every episode. Can't wait for the next 360 vid.
Absolutely great photography. You guys know what its all about!! Thanks ... from an envious land lubber.
Awesome! I enjoyed panning around to see the surroundings as well. Cheers guys!
Nice 360 footage from Uma and my country, thanks!
OMG What is that boat pulled alongside the dock at 3:00??? The white fiberglass job with the mast un-stepped and laying on the deck? I am in LOVE!!!
great vid better quality sound not so bad and it's like i am sailing with you, but stand every time on a different place of the boat. ty
Well and truly gobsmacking episode, thank you so much.
