    Shooting over/across ambush terrain makes the target hull-down; veteran gunners also add an extra hull-down point.
    Shooting over/across a tank or wreck, is also hull down.
    Aside from that... if you have LOS and can spot/target the enemy tank, it's clear for a shot.
    Most terrain (not declared Ambush) allows for drawing LOS or it blocks LOS. A big building blocks it, a ruined farm house has holes and you can shoot through it.
    The AP round will fly through the terrain. It's that simple.
    It's about making use of those free actions.

    It seems like its super hard to get a gun loaded and a shot off in this game its takes up to 5 of the turn segment actions to do without cards or tests. Pick up the shell, load the gun, spot the target, aim the gun, fire the gun.
    A tank can move between 30 to 60 inches in those 5 turn segments and might be able to fire one shot.
    Lots of moving very little shooting. Only one crew gets an action but the driver gets his every segment.
    Might have been a better design to be able to roll a test for each Crews action after the first free one.
    Driver moves, loader test to load the gun, commander tests to spot the target, gunner tests to aims the gun. Next segment...... Gunner fires the gun, test to reload the gun, test to drive, test to spot a new target,,, etc

      I think that’s an interesting idea and definitely worth trying out to see if it improves the game but it might make veteran crews too overpowered. As the rules are right now, with good crew and a daring (i.e. unbuttoned) commander you can potentially spot an enemy tank for free and force load a round in one phase, then shoot in the next phase. You don’t need to aim the gun to shoot, it just improves your chance to hit (you roll more dice).

    • @TheEldarGuy
      @TheEldarGuy 2 месяца назад

      Unbuttoned commanders can get a free spot, gunners can slam-load with a single roll. Depending on the skill of the crews, you can spot for free, slam load, and fire.
      Also, the US objective is to smash the ambush points.

    nice game - apparently when you pull a reinforcement card you can then lay the asset anytime you want after that. So if you pulled it at the start, you immediately have the asset available to play when you wish, you dont have to lay that right away. BTW if you have a medium gun, you might as well force reload as if you fail it still goes into the first slot. Its only heavy or very heavy guns which could be a calamity

    Great table and fun to see an armored car having a field day! Regarding cover, the fact that you must be able to see a proper part of the tank to Aim kind of makes up for the cover. You aim at what you see, right? If you are at Spotted only there is little chance of hitting (17%).
    What I DO find annoying is that there is no bonus for being very close (which is kind of good because you can avoid having those games where you sit 2 inches apart and fail to hit each other) as there should be a bonus for sticking your neck out (even though it is pure stupidity) and charging the enemy to get behind or a side shot.
    Looking forward to the next!

    • @Grnhrz
      @Grnhrz 3 месяца назад

      There’s an implicit bonus for being close in the sense that shots at long range (>18") have a lower penetration value and shots at close range tend to have a higher penetration value

    Interesting game. I’m a fan of Bolt Action and also What a Tanker, and I’m a “tank guy” lol, so I was curious about this one. At first blush it’s not for me, but I’ll watch some more playthroughs. As Andre said, it seems to be very hard to actually fire a gun. Travis dislikes WaT because you can’t more as often as you want, but in this you can’t shoot very often. I understand the WaT random mechanic and that’s the big part of that game. It’s made to be that way so it’s understandable if it’s not someone’s cup of tea. But this one…meehhhh, not sure yet.
    I’d honestly have liked to see it played out simply because I think, due to the limited number of actions per turn, Travis had a shot at escaping.

    • @tabletopcp
      @tabletopcp  3 месяца назад

      I think it’s harder to shoot in WaT because of the acquire mechanic. Sometimes you need multiple acquire then you need to aim

      @@tabletopcp. Not knowing the rules for this, I’m not sure how easy it is to spot. I think it is a crew test? But if there’s no penalty to see a tank in a hedge, vs in the middle of the street, then that’s kind of silly. So either it’s automatic, or you must roll (and potentially fail to see the Tiger in the town square) both of which are kind of odd. I think you’re just substituting one die roll for another between the two games. But anyway, you keep playing it I’ll keep watching it. 👍🏻

    • @Grnhrz
      @Grnhrz 3 месяца назад

      You can always snap-shoot even without having spotted a target but it’s essentially shooting with disadvantage (roll 2 dice and take the lowest result) so it’s often not worth it. In theory you can shoot every other action phase because you can force-load the gun and then shoot next phase and repeat. Spotting and aiming just give you more dice for your to-hit roll when firing and if you don’t lose LoS to the target, you keep them spotted or aimed. Scout vehicles are also great because whatever they spot the whole platoon has also spotted, saving them an action.

    • @Grnhrz
      @Grnhrz 3 месяца назад

      @@brettlynam5048 the spotting action always succeeds automatically and can only be taken if you have LoS. If your commander is unbuttoned you can attempt to spot as a free action and that’s when you roll a test. If you fail this test, it’s still spotted but it’s just not a free action. The game uses true LoS so if there’s an enemy tank parked behind a hedge but I can see it from my commander’s cupola, I can spot it and aim my gun at it.

    I really like how you have done your hedges, I am curious. Is the lichen (reindeer moss) on a solid base and how did you glue down the lichen? Did you use a fixer after? Modge Podge/PVA?
    Thanks, John

    • @tabletopcp

      The lichen is glued to a brown scrubber pad with spray on adhesive. It works pretty good. I didn’t add any kind of sealer. Sometimes the Lucien comes off but the brown scrubber pad underneath looks like branches

    There are things I like about this, but the card system, I have to admit is not appealing to me, at least at first glance; it seems like chances are you will either have the card to counter some devastaing effect from yr opponets cards, or you won't (stay with me, I do have a point lol) so if you are equipped to "play yr cards right" then you are just negating the effects of other cards, which then begs the question of, if this is meant to be a main feature of the gameplay, then why is there such a seemingly high chance of yr best strategy being to essentially nullify the card mechanic? I haven't played a lot of mini games that utilize random card draws, so maybe I'm just being squeamish about something that's new to me, but that's kinda my first impression. It looks like it's fun though, I might try to homebrew some elements of this into Bolt Action, like having to declare your order before the phase commences could be a fun element to add on to BA vehicles, or at least the bigger, slower ones. I'm still learning BA though, so I'm not gonna get too ambitious just yet, lol.

    The table and tanks look great. Achtung Panzer looks to much like a dragon quest in tanks. I am an old school spotting guy, you have to see it to shoot it. Center of turret to center of turret there was building between you? To much playing the system like any bad D&D game!

      "ch" is only pronounced as "k" with specific dialects and only specific words. Some Bavarians for example will say Kina instead of China, but the "ch" in "Achtung" is pronounced as "ch" not"k", but I don't think there is a comparable pronunciation in English, so you'd have to use some pronunciation tool, like Google has, to pick it up
