this is wonderful, I spent time there in 1994 herding cattle, going to open pit mines and photographing, and all in the area depicted....wonderful place and wonderful film.....cheers from USA, Florida, Paul
What a different country Australia is now, including a different people that have no idea of its past.
I just love these old films
Us too! Thanks for watching and letting us know.
Wonderful video. Takes a bit of grit to make a go of it out west back in those days.
I am so pleased that you good people are preserving this history 👏
Thank you.

These were Halcyon days. No internet. No electric cars or portable phones. Just sunburnt acres and dead men's skulls a'grin out west.
Makes me feel so proud but boy we have gone backwards.
Thank you so much for posting! I often think that we’re heading in the wrong direction. Continuous growth is not always a good thing.
No choice unless you want to experience a never ending financial depression .
Strong, fit, confident......admirable men.
We have seriously gone downhill
I think the narrator was the legendary actor Kev (Kevin) Golsby. Loved the 'AHA' logos (Australian Hoteliers Association) on the pub glasses. Green EJ Holden ?
I’ve got some ah glases
Yes, Kevin Golsby
Holden,s every where i wish i was around then.
When Aussies still stick to their larrikinism.
Its like we are going backwards in Australia.
Unfortunately not backwards like the social life and the people used to be.
On a slippery slope
Thanks NFSA for uploading this . Did you restore this film? It's in excellent condition.
Thanks. An HD scan from a 35mm interpos was done some years ago but it should be in the queue for a 4K scan.
Yes, women can work on oil rigs as any other job. However, oil rig work can be physically and mentally demanding, and some traditional oil rig environments may not be welcoming or accommodating to women. It's important for companies to provide equal opportunities and a safe and inclusive work environment for all employees regardless of gender.
Glad we no longer "rip and gouge the land clear"...
Of course, there always has to be a pub scene, where insecure men ruled by peer group pressure try to tough each other out.
