  • From the Film Australia Collection. Made by The Commonwealth Film Unit 1960. Directed by Neil Howe. This film makes a general survey of the Northern Territory of Australia and indicates its potential in regard to many already established industries. These include agriculture, mining, fisheries, cattle raising, pearling and the like. The Territory is still a land of many challenging problems; its greatest limiting factor being the lack of water. In recent years transportation has been improved and education approached with vision and imagination. Housing is also being developed. Two thirds of the Territory’s work force is in Government employ.

I was so grateful when my parents took me out of school for a term in 1982 and took us up the centre of Australia and down the East coast. My favourite part of the trip was the NT. This was before the main HWY was sealed and it was far less "touristy". Places like Mataranka Springs where totally unspoilt. Nowadays, they have concrete steps and hand-rails! People from the Southern states who have never been to the top end could not comprehend how different it is. It feels like a totally different country.

@@jerryscanas I totally agree. I had much respect for the Indigenous Rangers that showed me around the outback. I always felt like a guest in their country. I think it is terrible what companies such as Rio Tinto have done. I do not celebrate Australia day. Good luck with your fight.

There is still a lot of skeptics on the reasons why DDT got banned, and why we did not have a decent replacement.

@@emmao109 Arguably we should have improved it and not banned it simply removed the damaging chemicals in it and added new safer ones to make it safer.

And why does it matter, thats the history of every country on earth, at one point a culture conquers the others and sets up home. This isnt new, and we don't have to apologise more than we already have
