Having lived on Maui, doing that trail in one day is a speedtrip, and sitting in the silence is a tremendous experience. We camped overnight in the cabins. My favorite thing was to do parts of it more often, with time to hang out see the Neenees and tune into that changing weather. Glad you both did it and let us all see it again.
There are many more plants in Haleakalā crater and on the Keonehe'ehe'e trail, including silversword. This trail is never "not worth doing"! Arm in arm, snuggling together under a big umbrella - memorable. Great video, Mahalo 🌺
This is one of my favorite places on Maui. We stay in the cabin overnight (sometimes 2 nights) for the ultimate experience. Love, love it there. You capture its beauty nicely through your lens :)
What an incredible hike! The views were cool and it is unlike anything I've seen before. Amazing. I love how both of you keep smiling despite being dog tired! Another fine production Josh.
this is so awesome. I live on Oahu, been to Maui many times. Didn't realize that we can hike the crater. definitely next time Im at Haleakala and see people hitchhiking I will stop. I would have never known, awesome video. Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely stunning. It looks like you are walking on the moon &/ Mars. Mother nature is so beauitiful & can thrive (plant life) anywhere My husband & I really appreciate the episodes that encompass family members. Sadly in these days we don't see much family orirented channels. Safe travels Josh & kind regards from Adelaide, South Australia.
Well done guys job well done. It might have been tough for you but much appreciated by thousands of us who might never get to experience that hike..me being one. Awesome effort. Cheers & thanks from Western Australia ❤
Incredible. I live on the Big Island of Hawaii and in all my life, have never seen a superb, or any video basically featuring Haleakala. Excellent 👍 What an experience for you Josh and your wife Amy. Aloha
I was there decades ago, way more people now. I did not see anyone on the sliding sands trail then. I enjoy how both of you are always positive and thoughtful.
Great video with epic sights. Such drastic changes in topography too. Enjoyed seeing you and Amy hiking together. The plant is called the silversword and only grows in Hawaii. One of the colleges is called the Silverswords!
My boyfriend and I actually did this hike a couple years ago! We did choose the option to hike down into the crater, and had otherworldly views going down. We went pretty far out, all the way to the end of Lauulu Trail, and it ended up being over 18 miles total. Very long day and we ran out of water at the end.. this option seems much more enjoyable. Loved your video!
What an incredible hike! It was amazing to watch you two trek this. We were only able to visit the summit on our trip there, so it's nice to see inside the crater close up. Great video!
Awesome video and thank you for tagging us along on your adventure. My friends and I will be camping in the 2 cabins next month and so we’re looking forward to seeing those views especially Pele’s paint pot!
Wow....amazing thank you for this experience!. I went to top of Haleakala, walked to different areas, saw the Crater and other amazing views, than drove down. Not sure I'll do the 12 mile sliding sand trail with my bad knees.
I have to give you two credit! The stamina you had to have to do all of that walking. Did either of you have a step counter on!! But now you can say you’ve done it. And once again I am super impressed!! Thank you so much for sharing this journey!!!
Great timing on this Josh. My wife and I are booked for Hawaii in May and this is our #1 planned activity. I was planning on getting 2 cars (because...you know....hitchhiking? thats totally not us) but now I'm thinking its safe to do that
Yea, I have never hitchhiked before but we figured we would give it a try. It worked well for us and the other couple we saw on the trail but I had no idea how it would go when I went into it haha
What a treat to see Josh and Amy on a serious hike. Even though it was tough, I’m sure you enjoyed it. Thanks for posting about it cuz I don’t think my knees could do it. But one day I want to go to Maui so I will at least try to give a hitchhiker a lift while I’m there.
Awesomely beautiful Thanks Josh and Amy got to see something different from a distance , thought that was Amy's leg /feet it's your's Josh....lol. Love the pictures
just visit it in last july , the best trip ever ! QUESTION: @ 1:10 , the little restaurant you went for breakfast , do you remember the name of it ? i went there to before going up Haleakalā and can remember, the owners was so nice ! btw, i made the trail in revers and back from the parking lot as you did to get to the camp , soooo hard ! ;)
I’m so jealous! We were there in May and did only the first 1.5 miles of the trail before turning back as we were hiking with our 5 and 6 year old boys. The altitude was just too much for them (and my husband). Thank you for letting me see the parts we missed! Did altitude not affect you at all?
I’ve seen the sunrise and quite frankly it’s not worth getting up at 3am to drive up there in the dark just to freeze 🥶. The second time we were in Maui we went up to the crater around 10am and really enjoyed hiking part of the trail
We try to do a major road trip once a quarter. He still works so he doesn't always have the free time to join. Should be something with him in the next month or so though then a lot of videos over the summer
Except for those couple of areas where the trail has deliberately and obviously been cleared of rocks, all the rocks and loose stones make this trail an invitation for getting a sprained or twisted ankle. Happy that both of you came away unscathed.
7:55 The Silver plants are called Silversword. They are exceptionally rare and only grow around the summits of the volcanoes on Maui and Big Island.
You guys are amazing for not only pushing through that trek, but also sharing it and all its beauty with us along the way. Thank you!

I seriously got tired just watching it, what a hike! Thanks for going on this one for us, it was very geographically interesting!
Really great video! You captured the scenery, colors and weather spectacularly! Thank you for taking us to the volcanos, now I'm ready to take a nap.

Thank you Josh. This was super. You are two guys who does not give up. Good for you. 🥰
Thank you so much, we really did enjoy this hike even though it was tough
What an Epic adventure. So cool
Well done! I feel exhausted watching you guys hike it. Appreciate the hard work!
haha It was a long day but an amazing one
Thanks for sticking it out that last mile. I’ve seen so many vlogs of this trail and this is my favorite!

Hi Amy!! Good to see you!! So glad y’all got to visit this park. So cool. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful, also amazing, enjoyed it fully.
Sunset! Sunset! With hot choco. Loved seeing this hike
Sound amazing!

Been there two months ago! Super cool trail, the way back was tough, but it’s worth every second!
7+ hrs long hike!! No thank you! 😅 But I can see why it might be an unforgettable experience. Awesome video 🙌🏽
Glad you enjoyed it! Yea it was a long day haha
Amazing hike. We were just there but didn't do that hike. Oh well, now we have to go back.
Looks magical 🌈⛰
Great hike you two! Beautiful views

so just did this hike yesterday and it was incredible but you 100% accurately summed up that last mile. That was tough mentally!!!
Very enjoyable episode! You need more episodes with you wife! That lady is nice on the eyes! :)
quality videos! hardworking gentleman!!
Much appreciated!
Great views! You two will probably be in much better shape after doing this hike!
haha I hope so!

So glad you liked the video. it was certainly a crazy day of hiking haha
Great hike! I have camped many times in the cabins.
Awesomely beautiful Thanks Josh and Amy got to see something different from a distance , thought that was Amy's leg /feet it's your's Josh....lol. Love the pictures
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Great video! I guess with the new rules on filming in National Parks, these kinds of videos will be hard to make in the future?
Wow, what an epic adventure! I think my wife's limit is around 9 miles... Thanks!
Great video but I was exhausted for you, lol. That would be a little long for me. Thanks for sharing!
What an incredible hike, I assume this is ideal for cooler seasons
Haleakala crater is over 10,000 ft of elevation so even in summer it won't get too hot.
I really enjoyed our trip up there at Volcanos. I want to go back and get my book stamped.
So awesome! I would love to spend more time there
waouh, magnifique sentier.
It is so beautiful!
It looks other worldly.
just visit it in last july , the best trip ever !
QUESTION: @ 1:10 , the little restaurant you went for breakfast ,
do you remember the name of it ?
i went there to before going up Haleakalā and can remember, the owners was so nice !

Rolling down to old Maui me boys 🎶
I will have to look up that song!

Gosh you were brave (?) taking two small children out there...
I’ve seen the sunrise and quite frankly it’s not worth getting up at 3am to drive up there in the dark just to freeze 🥶. The second time we were in Maui we went up to the crater around 10am and really enjoyed hiking part of the trail
Yea it was really cold for sunrise haha and we didn't see anything
The hike south of La Perouse Bay is similar (southwestern Maui).
I did the sunrise back in 2019- was absolutely worth it. Sorry you didn't get to see.
Life is so much happier in Hawaii on any island....its freedom
haha it is an insanely beautiful place to be
2 hours before sunrise is a torture...as someone who typically gets up at 8 am, gona do sunset instead
do you carry all the gear mentioned on your amazon when hiking?? that is a lot. what video software do you use to edit these? thanks
Is that wireless mic you're using the DJI? Great video! Thanks!
Yes, it is!
I forget which state parks Hollywood used for Jurassic Park background. But some of those mountains look similar 🤔 😏
Hi Josh where is your dad?, i have seen many videos and he is in all of them, i hope he is wel. Btw i love this video
Yea for sure, some of the sections you have to look down at your footing a lot
Ya'll do look burned at the end! lol
2:55 couple from czech republic? :D nice, kdo je tu ještě z ČR? :D
Where do you pee? Serious question. Do people get mad if you just pee on the side of the trail?
Where's the other Hawaii video?
Apple Vision Pro immersive environments

Don't dis hiking back on "the same trail". The view and the lighting is different. Guaranteed you will see stuff you didn't see on the way in.
You two are so cute together!
Thank you :)
I’m super early
You are!
With my dad
They need to open that trail up to dirtbikes, those silversword plants would make good jumps.
And the nene goose would make good soft landings too, plus lunch!
