The progress looks great but it's still heartbreaking to see so much of Lahaina's history is gone. Continued prayers for those affected. Thanks for sharing these updates.
Agreed! I was flying home and went by Lahaina two days before it burned. I've never been to Maui, it is our last island to visit. We'd already decided that we wanted to visit next, and I looked down and was telling my daughter "that's next" and vividly remember pointing out Lahaina among other parts of the island. We'll be there in July and August. I hope they open access to the Banyan tree. I really want to visit.
Thank you again for the update. We have been to Maui twice since the fire in Lahaina, and have shopped local exclusively. Keep up the great work. Hope to see many more completed homes on your next video. MAHALO and Aloha.
@johnmartinezm I didn't know that, but maybe the same people that cut everything in our community. Seems that we have much cutting than planting going on...hope we get laws to prevent that in the future and save the trees.
My townhome was involved in a fire 5 years ago. It took 2 years and 4 months for my house to be rebuilt. I live in Los Angeles County where all building materials are available. I can’t imagine how long it would take for these homes to be rebuilt. I feel so bad for these people and can totally relate to what they are going through. Thank you for sharing this video.
...If the voters in Hawaii, especially on Maui keep getting suckered by voting in WOKE Politian's, it will take a whole generation before Lahaina recovers...That is a fact...
My wife and I have spent many months in Lahaina. My parents were both born on Maui. This was our favorite spot in Hawaii. We were in Lahaina just weeks before the fire. The people there were always so very nice and the area is rich with history. This destruction is hard to imagine. Our prayers for those local residents who have lived there for years and lost everything. Thank you for all the wonderful times. God Bless you and take care of you...
I am so glad I got to see Lahaina before this awful fire. I stayed at the lovely Plantation Inn. As sad as it is to watch your very informative, professionally produced videos, I want to thank you for keeping us apprised on Lahaina’s rebuilding progress. My heart goes out to all of you.
Sad to see such devastation...all those cement slabs were homes and businesses. Perfect disaster for land grab. Thanks for posting🎉

Mahalo for all your videos since the fires. They are so informative and your good spirit and intent I believe is being well received. The videos do remind us of the tremendous tragedy but the huge cleanup efforts and rebuilding show the healing has begun. Wishing all the Best to Lahaina community. We love Maui and its people and will be visiting soon. Jesse, again Mahalo for your videos!
Seeing Lahaina in this state breaks my heart. Lahaina was truly a jewel, a paradise. I went to Maui a few years ago. What's happened here is a national tragedy. Why isn't one of the innovative tiny home companies helping residents who were displaced by providing tiny homes--even if they're only temporary. These people still need our help.
Thank you Jesse! My heart and prayers are STILL for Lahina and all of Maui. Still love her no matter what! Vote WISE my friends! ALOT resting on this election.
Thank you for posting this. Two observations: 1) Cant believe they didnt bury the newly installed power-lines, especially in the areas where everything was destroyed (easy access to bury the new lines); 2) There is a YT vid on the removal of the sailboat at Lahaina Harbor (it was an intensive job, as it was completely filled with sand and tide was moving in).
Way back in the early seventies my brother and I sailed our 57' sloop to Lahaina from San Francisco. We had been there many times before and intended to stay in Lahaina forever and use the boat for charter. Anyway, I remember all the breakfasts on the side porch at the Pioneer Inn and the "cook it yourself" dinners in the garden. The banyan tree, the lovely history sites, our apartment up in Napili, etc. Unfortunately the boat broke and it took the builder three years to cough up the damages. By the time the litigation was over living in Lahaina was out of reach. We loved that town dearly! I still get weepy viewing your videos all these long years later. What a terrible tragedy befell that Wonderfull town. E ola lōʻihi a pōmaikaʻi ʻo Lahaina.
I am devastated watching this video. The memories my wife and I had dining, walking and holding hands by the harbor before we started our family. Returning years later and teaching my sons to snorkel off Baby beach. Enjoying their amazement of the Banyan tree. Standing inside the Lahaina historical building (next to the tree) learning about the city's history unaware that the most tragic event in it's history would occur less than three months later. Thanks for the video. It is actually more alarming to see everything cleared like this and probably waiting for a redevelopment of the area that will never be the same no matter how much they try to convince us of the opposite. A good example is that elementary school being moved "2.5 miles away from it's original location". Of course it was because that's prime, valuable oceanfront property. Why waste it on the local's children?
Aloha Mai a me mahalo nui, Jesse. I am a Mauian in Kihei and a member of Lahaina Strong. I am very grateful for all of the vids that you do and the updates. Pōmaikaʻi a me aloha
Jesse, thank you so much for this drone tour and update! I really appreciate your extremely organized way of presenting the drone tour and your extremely organized speech as well. It's great to see that places are starting the process of rebuilding and exciting to see the framing and beginning of construction from the air. Thank you for addressing the question of "land grab". If anyone would know the answer, it would be you since you are a realtor who knows the neighborhoods and knows where to look for the data. I am super super excited when I see that you have put up a drone video. Thank you for being our window to Lahaina and THANK YOU THANK YOU for all your hard work! 🙂
Mahalo Jesse for a great video. Sad and encouraging signs of delay and progress. We will see Lahaina rise from the ashes but time, energy and love will continue to be needed. Your non critical and non political videos are refreshing and needed for those of us on the mainland. Aloha
Thank you for this update, Jesse. We just returned from Maui where we had a wonderful time. We definitely miss Lahaina but there are so many other places to go. We ate at one of the restaurants on Front Street that survived the fire. It was sad that one of the other restaurants is asking people not to ask their staff about the fire as many of them are survivors and don’t want to talk about their experiences.
Thank you so much for providing these videos! It still breaks my heart to see the extent of the fire, but your videos keep a hopeful look towards the future.
Hi,I'm Rick & my wife Gloria Tompkins. You have done a marvelous job with this video, and to say I have felt sorrow in my heart since day one as news started to get out. We have had great times in Lahaina, and also friends also we know
I was in Ka’anapalu beach on the other side of Black Rock and most of the beach has eroded to at least 1/2 to 3/4’s of what it was a year ago. Does anyone know what is going on with the eroding of the beaches and if it will ever come back?
Thank you Jesse for your dedication and diligence in keeping us informed with the latest news and situations regarding the Maui fire tragedy. I continue to support the Maui Food bank on a monthly basis and I hope that a spirit of gratitude fills the community.
Excellent Commentary and Video Production. This unprecedented fire was the perfect storm for environmental conditions, climate change conditions, and electrical engineering. Happy for the progress, and thanks again for your resolute approach . ✨️🌿✨️🌿✨️🌿✨️🌿✨️
I have never been to Hawaii, yet your videos are helping me fall in love with Maui while I at the same time ache for the families and residents who lost their homes. Despite the destruction, it is such a beautiful place, and I hope in a few short years Lahaina will be built back again. I cannot imagine the losses felt by all of you. It is good to see that progress is being made. Warm greetings from the west coast! ❤
Thank you Jesse. We vacationed there last December in Hana, and strongly recommend it to help with the local economy. My wife has made donations to the local humane society. We continue to pray for your recovery.
I was in Lahaina in October. I took a tour from the Cruise Ship to Ku’ia Estates Chocolate factory which is located on Ulupono St. From their rooftop patio I was able to look south across the Kahoma Stream and get a good view of the fire zone. It was heartening to see what an awesome job had been done to clear away all the fire debris. I could see houses and one multi story affordable housing building under construction. The sound of the hammers was an amazing sound to the ears. Thanks for keeping us up to date on the progress. ❤️ Maui
Thank you so much for all your updates. We here in 'Down-Under' Australia, just don't hear anything about what's going on up there in your world so it really is appreciated that you do such a wonderful job in getting these newsworthy pieces out to the world. Thank you very much.
Jesse, I am very impressed with your drone presentation and commentary. An excellent job and very informative! I think one of the reasons why fewer tourists are showing up on Maui is that the cost of vacation rental accommodation and car rental costs have gone up dramatically (more than double from the time before the fire). I hope that Lahaina will recover faster as I am sure you do as well.
Thanks for the update. We’ve been to Maui twice since the fire and we are happy that you are keeping us in the loop as to the rebuilding. We are hopeful that things will continue to progress swiftly.
Once again, thank you, Jesse, for this update. Those of us who live far away - but who keep Lahaina close in our hearts - rely on kama'aina such as yourself for accurate information, and we greatly appreciate your efforts!! Mahalo
Thanks for the update. My husband and I just visited Maui, Hawaii in September. We had an amazing time visiting there. We supported a lot of the local vendors !!😊 Praying for a full recovery for Lahaina!❤
Wonderful job with another of your superb videos! I greatly appreciated your reference to the upcoming election and to its importance for the future of Maui's economy and to Maui's tourism. Thank you very much for all the contributions your make to Maui and Maui County! Andy McKane, Maunaloa, Molokai, Hawaii, USA.
Thank you for sharing. The algorithm brought your video to my Homepage. I’m a Washington state resident so it’s good to see how slowly but surely our fellow Americans are recovering. ❤
Thanks for the update. From an outside observer, it seems as though this recovery is going to take quite some time. Perhaps a decade or more. For a complete recovery. I hope somehow they can emulate the quaint nature of the shops and restaurants. My wife and I loved taking walks, visiting the shops. And taking in a sunset in one of the oceanfront restaurants. Thanks again. See you next time.
as a lifelong Lahaina resident and knowing what we are dealing with to try to obtain our building permit, you are absolutely correct. It will take 10 years just to get the residential homes back but Front street and the cash cow of the tourism industry in West Maui may never return. Lahaina will never be the same. I will miss living so close to the beach and miss the perfect weather all year long to grow my beautiful garden. a wonderful RED state is calling us to pay cash for a big beautiful home.
Wonderful to see some progress on mostly cleared ash and debris of people’s property. Very much appreciate your time and quality of the videos. I’m in my seventies and always dreamed of one day getting the chance to see Hawaii, devastated at the awful fires, but really love seeing the progress now being made. Thanking you Jessie, Aloha, keeping on watching from Gozo in the Mediterranean. Well wishes to you all.
As a frequent visitor and a hopeful in the future homeowner in the west side of Maui, I appreciate the time and effort you put into these videos! Extremely informative! I see all the areas that my wife and I visited a lot! We did our due diligence and donated to the people and pets of Maui!
Thank you, the devastation still brings tears. I really hope residents will be able to return. I really hope there will be a lot of conversations about how to keep this area for those native to hawaii. Tourists and the rich can visit but live elsewhere.
Thank you so much for this video and commentary. Although it has been cleaned up, the devastation is still shocking. May God bless the residents of Lahaina Maui*Greetings from Poland!
Great video …..was wondering how the progress was going. Used to go to Lahaina for acweek for 20 years of my life. I live in Seattle… so was a 6-hour flight each way…but well worth it…Lahaina was great on the weekends when the big art shops gave out free wine and champagne
Thanks again for the updates. After my first visit, Lahaina captured my heart. I’m praying for everyone there and looking forward to returning when the time is right.
I want to acknowledge you Jesse for making time to create a progress report to help all of us on the Mainland learn the changes that are happening to rebuild Lahaina. Thank you for being an "Earth Angel" to create the video updates. I can tell you have spent many hours filming, narrating, and creating the October video with Lahaina updates! I say kudos to you! You are special! Thank you! I hope your work will inspire others to share their time and gifts, and partner with you to continue to let "your light shine." I will invite my friends to take vacations in Maui and let them know how important it is for all of us to come visit Maui, enjoy the beauty of the island, and spend money to continue enhancing the economy. Sending prayers of strength, stamina, protection, guidance, and healing to the residents in Maui as you move forward and rebuild. Know you are not alone. God is guiding you always, and in ALL WAYS!
WOW! This is a fantastic look at the Lahaina area post fire. I was so lucky to get out here several weeks before the fire and I cant wait to get back soon. I would absolutely love to see the area get back on their feet. Thank you for the update!
What looks like a new home at 9:28 - I sort of expected concrete walls and metal roof construction but I guess not ? Around 13:28 looks like power lines are not underground ?
Thank you so much for this video. My dad was in the travel business and we went to Maui a lot in the ‘60s and ‘70s (staying in Lahaina, Kaanapali, Napili). I never failed to spend as much time as possible in Lahaina. It was my sacred and magical place and I spent my hard-earned babysitting money buying from local, street front vendors. The banyan tree and photos with the sea captain at the Pioneer Inn were never missed and eventually I loved taking my kids there, getting to live my childhood twice. I’ve had mixed emotions, trying to respect the locals (staying away) and the extreme tragedies they’ve experienced. To the people of Lahaina, please know how much your loss means to those of us who had the privilege of visiting.
Thanks much for the updates. Professionally done and explained on locations as you flyover. We have vacationed and spent most of our time in Lahaina numerous times so the updates are much appreciated.
My wife and I have spent nearly 6 weeks a year, on average, on Maui for the last 25 years or so. We were so heartbroken on this fire, having survived a couple of Northern California fires ourselves, family members losing their home., our neighbors losing their homes and their lives, we absolutely get it. What was even more heartbreaking? The hate from Maui residents directed at people like my wife and I. We didn't burn your house down. To be brutally honest, folks not learning lessons from the fires in California and elsewhere in the world played a large part in the demise of Lahaina. My wife is an RN and works for Kaiser, and I am a teacher. At one point, we thought we were moving there to be a part of that community. We haven't been back, and probably will not be back. Don't make an enemy out of friends really applies. That level of hate: It is hard to look at the community with the same eyes we once had. Hard to turn a blind eye to all of the signs that tell us to stay away. Be careful what you ask for, you might get it. We keep the vast majority of our vacation dollars in California these days. Love the updates though. Still love it there. Perhaps we revisit one day.
Thank you very much for the video and the information provided - professional and non-political presentation of facts from a very sad situation. 3 times guest on your beautiful island with kindhearted and welcoming people. Lahaina and the late evenings under the Banyan Tree was by far our favorit. Best and strong wishes for the people of Maui and Lahaina. Jane & Roland / Denmark
Thank you so much for making these updates!!!! I've heard that some of the resturants on Front Street (ie Kimo;s) won't be allowed to rebuild on the water. We will definitely be back to Maui!!! One of my girlfriend's favorite places on earth!!! 🥰
Thank you for doing this updated video. It's good to see the rebuilding taking place. I still wince when I see these, especially where the Pioneer Hotel was. I stayed there a year before the fire. Lahaina will always have a spot in my heart.
Crazy to see this! Lahaina was the easiest, fastest, best place to grab quick, well paying employment, but no place to live close enough or affordably, so I went back to the mainland. Four months later, it burned to the ground! incredible! The small library with so much Hawaiiana, gone! I'm glad the Banyan tree made it. I'm glad to see affordable housing coming up, people rebuilding and much of the rubble gone. I have all of these pictures. A bicycle with flowers on it. The mermaid mailbox on my walk to the bus stop. I regret never seeing the inside of the museums surrounded by stone, though I walked by a thousands times. So many memories flooding my mind. Thanks for this...
Thanks for the updates my family and I made Lahaina (aina nalu in particular) our regular vacation spot. Last time there was March 2023. Our hawaii visits now focus on Oahu but hopefully will loop back to maui in a few years.
Thank you for your update. Hoping that your next update shows more homes rebuilt and completed. It will be very interesting to see which businesses return and which new ones show up.
My wife and I have visited Kaanapali many times since 2004. Our favorite thing was to head into Lahaina for the shopping and great food. Lahaina had a certain charm to it that, sadly, will probably never return, at least not in our lifetimes. Thank you for the tours keeping us informed, but I watch your videos thru tear-filled eyes.
Once again thank you for producing and narrating the videos. My heart still aches knowing how the residents have been impacted and how the city was devastated. I sincerely hope there will be some kind of effort to help those who are now unemployed. Fourteen percent is a huge amount of people needing jobs. Thank you again for all the time and knowledge you share with us. Take care.
Wow! Thank you from those of us back in Ohio on the mainland to understand the devastation and loss you all have endured. Many in Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia surely understand your plight. Prayers and support to you all. My question from this updated video is are all those empty cleared lots homes and residences, or businesses, or a combination of both? Thank you for continued updates and God speed on rebuilding and recovery. 🇺🇸
The progress looks great but it's still heartbreaking to see so much of Lahaina's history is gone. Continued prayers for those affected. Thanks for sharing these updates.

as a lifelong Lahaina resident and knowing what we are dealing with to try to obtain our building permit, you are absolutely correct.
Thanks for your support.
Thanks for making this video. It gives me a much better feel for the progress in Lahaina. I look forward to watching more of these in the future.
I appreciate the regular updates. The video quality is wonderful. Thank you.
Thank you so much for the details. Loved Lahaina and I just saw my favorite restaurant near the Luau being intact. That definitely warmed my heart.
Thank you!
I hope your work will inspire others to share their time and gifts, and partner with you to continue to let "your light shine."
I will invite my friends to take vacations in Maui and let them know how important it is for all of us to come visit Maui, enjoy the beauty of the island, and spend money to continue enhancing the economy.
Sending prayers of strength, stamina, protection, guidance, and healing to the residents in Maui as you move forward and rebuild.
Know you are not alone. God is guiding you always, and in ALL WAYS!
Thank you for the update videos.
Maui no ka oi!
So bittersweet. Keep up the good work. Hope to visit again soon.
Great job Jesse, best wishes from Australia 😮
Awesome footage with the drone and excellent information shared. Good job!
WOW! This is a fantastic look at the Lahaina area post fire. I was so lucky to get out here several weeks before the fire and I cant wait to get back soon. I would absolutely love to see the area get back on their feet. Thank you for the update!
Mahalo, Thanks for keeping us updated! Things are on the healing and rebuilding path!
What looks like a new home at 9:28 - I sort of expected concrete walls and metal roof construction but I guess not ? Around 13:28 looks like power lines are not underground ?
Very good drone tour of how Lahaina is looking & recovering. Mahalo Jesse
Thank you for the updates and appreciate the drone footage…
Thank you again for the update. We really appreciate your videos. Fondest Aloha again, from Canada.
Thank you for the update. I’ve been wondering about Lahaina for a year now. 👍🇨🇦
So grateful. Thank you Jesse!
I continue to keep the people of Lahaina in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you so much for this video. With much aloha from north of Boston, Ma.
Great job I look forward to your videos as I have family in Lahaina thank you keep up the good reporting
Thank-you. Awesome update!
Outstanding drone footage! Great job!
As always, fabulously done! Thank you for this!
So sad yet encouraging to see progress and building growth. 🙏🤞❤️. Thank you for the updates.
Thank you so much for your updates. I’ve had the opportunity to visit three times while on cruises.
Progress is made, life is back, great drone views and superb information.
So when do residents get to start building again on there properties
Thanks for the updates my family and I made Lahaina (aina nalu in particular) our regular vacation spot. Last time there was March 2023. Our hawaii visits now focus on Oahu but hopefully will loop back to maui in a few years.
Thanks for this update. We have enjoyed this island so many times . Maui will rebound!
Thank you for your update. Hoping that your next update shows more homes rebuilt and completed. It will be very interesting to see which businesses return and which new ones show up.
Great vid Jesse. Do you have knowledge about how many home owners had insurance and how many were granted full payment for their loss?
I'm not sure about that. Hopefully those without insurance will be made whole by the lawsuit.
Thank you Jesse! I lived in Lahaina in 2001/2002 and one of the houses that Iived in is gone. It so sad to watch this. Mahalo again for this update!
Thanks Jesse for the update. You are the best. I agree. The power needs to be underground also feel permits need to speed up
So much resilience! Speaks to a great and wonderful community.
So good to see the progress. It is very exciting to get these. Mahalo nui!
Thank you for the hard work and generosity to share this with us.
