- Never have I ever purchased this small of a motorcycle....but as you'll see, I couldn't say no after checking it out!

This cb175 wasn't abused like so many of these small-displacement Japanese bikes were back in the 70's. It's complete (mostly), clean (kinda), and unmolested. I think this will clean up beautifully and turn into a really nice nostalgia piece for someone. Follow along as we turn this toy into treasure!

Passed my full test on a Honda 175 in 1982. Fab little bike
Great memories. I got my license in 1966. The Honda 160 was the cheapest freeway legal (15 HP minimum in CA) ride you could get, a bit under $600 new. Weren't really freeway bikes, you needed to crouch down and wait to hit the 70 mph speed limit, but you could use the freeway without getting ticketed. That was pretty useful if you lived in a town a freeway went through. This is just a later version of those bikes, low cost, highway legal and fun.
First bike and I Paid $400 for my brand new 1970 CB-175. Same color, nice bike. Hope that you still have it and riding all over the place!🙋♂️
I bought a gold 1972 CB 175 brand new as a 17 year old and felt like I was driving a Harley! It was the precursor to two CB 350's, a CB 500F and a CB 750F. Loved the bike (even though I had my first real accident on it which involved an oncoming driver who made a left in front of me and gifted me with a broken leg and a winter to perfect my game of pool. - I still hop around the pool table on one leg if I want to play my best game...) Today I have a completely restored 1974 Honda CB 450 twin cam in the basement and I'm currently wrenching and restoring a barn find 1976 CB 400F. Now nearing my 70's, you never grow out of Honda CB's. Have a blast with this!
My first bike was a 1972 Honda CB175 just like this, even the same color.
That looks like my first bike a 72 CB175. I even see the split on the back of the seat !
My first bike was a 71 SL175. I bought it when I was 13 with the money I made mowing yards and raking leaves after school. I learned how to ride it in the farm fields and trails that surrounded our house. I've had a lot of bikes over the last 50 years. I wish I kept that 175.
Hello folks I had a cb175 in 1976 I loved it and I was 17 at the tIme it needed some work so I took it to a backyard mechanic the speed I got was 60 /65 mph when I picked it up I took it for a ride as I ACCELERATED it climbed to 95mph and there was still more but I knew something was wrong so I took it back and all he did was swap the carb. pin round and it was set straight
I'm 14 and just bought an old 1969 cb175 and am currently rebuilding it, but I did get to ride and I have to say, it's a nice bike to ride. it even came with highway bars which I thought was hilarious.
My uncle Phil has had the 175 scrambler in almost perfect condition for 50+ years. He passed about a month ago and it looks like I'm going to get to take it home Monday.
RIP Phil, take good care of the scrambler, those things are sweet!
Yup. Learned on that bike in 72. Still riding at 70.
Im 68 years old and started riding when i was 13. My first bike was a 1969 Yamaha YCS1C 180. My high school buddy bought a new 1972 Honda CL 175. We rode everywhere
Nearly died on my cb175. On ‘L’ plates with no particular road sense, I drove mine into a tractor at 45-50mph. Amazingly, all I suffered was concussion, a broken right wrist, a cut knee and a cut under my chin from the helmet strap.

The Starter Sprag Cutch is Gummed up
Run the engine up tp temperature and change the Oil a couple of times....the Starter clutch will usually free up..
My dad had a 1975 Kawasaki KE175 that I learned to ride on after the early days of going for rides out our gravel lane with him, my older sister and I all squeezed on the back. Sweet little bike and will never forget the sound of that two-stroke. Unfortunately too many years of storing it in a barn with a dirt floor doomed it to an early rusty grave.
Great memories! I'm honored that I had a part in resurfacing them. Yeah, unfortunately dirt and grass has been the downfall of many parked motorcycles. Not everybody's wife lets them store them in the garage for 30 years, but I keep trying to find the ones that are!
I have this same bike. It's not "just a 175". It's a "CB175 SuperSport", and it may not be a CB750, but it is SPORTY.
It's about as "sporty" as the sport of curling!
@@two-cargarage It is a relatively light bike, so it is (and feels) sporty for what it is. It ain't CB1000RR-R sporty.
I was 15 when I rode a Honda 160, 70 miles round trip to my mother's house every weekend...sometimes I could go up to 65 mph...thank goodness for Kansas flat roads...lol

I’ve got one too ,to restore mine had been a cafe racer ,but I’m taking it back to originality,hard to find certain parts though.
Great bike! So much fun. My Uncle used to ride all the kids around on his CL175. We sat on the tank and held on to the cross bar :)

Started with a '64 white Honda 90 , had fender flairs !

Is a 175 still a good first-timer bike? I can tell how excited you are about this bike. Can't wait to see the progress.
It's too small by today's standards. Wide open on the highway you would still feel pretty unsafe as prius after prius whizzes by you, haha.
But it would be perfect for buzzing around town!
I won a 1971 Honda cb175 on eBay that's in similar conditions around the same time as you it seems, I'm a complete noob so I'm a bit nervous but ill be watching attentively to find any tips I can learn from

Tank cleaning procedure I use on all my old projects, White vinegar, leave it for a week, rinse with water and baking soda, coat with POR-15 kit :)
good tip! i'm deciding between vinegar or phosphoric acid. Have you had the por15 kits last a long time?
@@two-cargarage Vinegar I’ve found is the easiest, cheapest, you can pick up a gallon or two at the grocery stores for less than 20 bucks usually. I’ve used POR-15 for years and never had any issues :) you can get the motorcycle tank kit or just the sealer. If you use the vinegar you don’t really need the degreaser in the kit, and the metal etcher is also not really needed because the vinegar etches the metal. It’s easiest to take the tank off to do all this.
@@two-cargarage only other advice is to be wary of where the POR-15 drains out of the petcock hole area, make sure the screw mounting holes don’t dry with POR-15 in the threads
@@seanmcpat thanks for the info! Do you fill the entire tank with vinegar, just half of it, or do you cut some with water and fill it?
@@two-cargarage Yep! Fill the entire tank, if it touches any spot that isn’t submerged it will flash rust fast, be sure to make sure none of it gets on paint, also if the tank has an old liner like Kreem, this stuff will eat through that too! :) I would go ahead and order a new gas tank gasket(s)

15k miles! At first that seemed like a lot to me for a smaller bike, but I'm glad it's actually been driven and not just trashed then thrown in a barn.

@@two-cargarage That’s low miles for its age and years on the road. I forgot to mention that back in the day, the twin carb CB175 was the premium bike in the range.
My second bike was a single carb CD175 which has the same engine as the CB175, but with different gearing, and actually qualifies as the first retro style bike, in that it had a style based on the earlier Benley. So mine was likely heavier than the CB which accelerated more quickly.
Went everywhere on it. The first summer I travelled from the UK Midlands to North Devon on holiday - a round trip of over 500 miles. Very comfortable and even capable of carrying a lightweight girlfriend. Sadly they don’t make those anymore… 👀🧐😎😜
