Hi Samantha, Oh that sock pattern is soooo cute, but I would listen to the advice of the other sock knitters. Everyone I know who knits socks chooses 85% wool and 15% nylon (or even 80/20%) because of the wear and tear. For myself, I am scared of trying socks because the little dpns look insane.
Also, if you aren't being paid by Drops, you should be! This was a great ad for them 😉

I love the pattern so much! And it's definitely good to know about the sock yarn composition issue before I wore them outside and got a hole in them (and would probably never knit socks again!)

@@TheStrikkechick Oh, one more thing about wool socks--you don't have to wash them after every wear. For some reason, the wool just doesn't absorb the foot smell as much and I only wash the ones that people have made for me about once ever 3-4 times I wear them. (and I have pretty stinky feet 🤭 ) But you can just go by the smell test. Also, I put a little foot powder in the bottom of my winter boots/shoes to help with absorption.

you should send this podcast to drops and see if they will do a kit with you for your next design so you can benefit from each other (as much as they have already benefited from you!) you made me want to try allllll these yarns i love love love knitting with alpaca! that melody yarn looks incredible!

Alpaca yarn really is great! It keeps me so warm especially in the coldest part of winter up here :) And for some reason it doesn't feel as itchy to have right on my skin as wool does

I always have socks on the needles and love knitting them. I would have to agree with others that the 'Drops Flora' most likely is not such a good choice for socks, I have knit a few pair out of 'Drops Nord' (45% Alpaca, 30% Polyamide, 25% Wool) and this yarn makes beautiful soft socks. 'Drops Delight' and 'Drops Fabel' is good sock yarn as well. Also you do not need to wash them every single time you wear them either and to wash I would suggest using 'Soak' wool wash as you do not need to rinse. Just put socks in and soak in bucket or sink and I put mine then through just a spin cycle to get excess water out and hang our to dry. So easy. All the best knitting your first socks.....they are my go to mindless knitting.

I've been meaning to try out Drops Nord too! Thanks for the tips on washing them - that sounds much easier than washing/blocking them every wear ☺

If you only have one or two pair, a salad spinner also works to remove the excess water.

I am so jealous of the drops sale! It was fun to see your haul. I think you made great choices. Also, I am totally with you on the sock knitting….I just don’t understand making the effort for something hidden. Plus, the small dpns and fine yarn. I admire people who can do it but I don’t think it’s me. 😂 Thanks for another fun podcasts! ❤

I've already cast on most of the yarn but have avoided the Flora for now... I think it's the small needles keeping me away! Glad to know I'm not alone ☺

If there is not any nylon in that sock yarn I would reconsider using it. I love my knitted socks, you will love wearing them - just use a yarn that has a 20% nylon in it.

I'm planning on making another pair I can wear outside if I like these! But I think I'll just keep them as house/bed socks so they don't get so worn out :)

Additional to the Nylon content, a single or two ply yarn will not hold up well for socks.

Hi, I just found your channel and really enjoyed your podcast. That variegated yarn with the of white Nepal was beautiful. Shoot I may need to get some! Ha! I liked the pearl bumps. I didn't see the slip stitches but whatever you have planned is looking very nice. Can't wait to see what you come up with. I'm a new sub! 😁👋

I'm so glad you like my podcast! I love hand-dyed yarns so much, and I figured variegated mohair with a solid base yarn was a good way to enjoy some luxury without breaking the bank :) I've been messing around with that stitch pattern trying to make up my mind but I think I've figured it out now!

I'd like to steer you away from Flora as a sock yarn, it won't stand up to wear and tear. I tested yarn without nylon, but none of them could I wear more than 5 times before I had a hole in them, which doesn't happen with regular soch yarn for me. As bedsocks the would be very soft a warm nevertheless.

Thank you for the advice! I think I'll just keep them as home socks then ☺

I want to knit the Porcelain Sweater using Drops but I’m only ever used the kid silk mohair. Can you recommend the best Drops yarn to use for this sweater? Thanks!😊

I've seen some beautiful versions in Drops Lima and one in Drops Nord! I've personally used Lima and I love how it holds up so I think that would be a great choice :)

Melody is wonderful, until you wash it and then the volume disappears . It clumps in no time too. I have a shed load of the cottons , belle and alpacas and silks because I love them . Nord sock wool is fab for socks and soft enough for other garments worn next to skin. Chose nord over their alpaca for durability , its just as lovely and almost imoossible to tell the difference . The fabel sock wool is nasty for me and the delight is also unpleasant (sweaty, unbreathable and it feels like plastic) unless you double it with silk . Shame becsuse its so pretty..

Aww that's sad to hear. I've used Melody held double for a cardigan and that's held up alright, but maybe because it's held double? Really excited to use Nord too!

You dont have to wash sock everytime you where them. The wool stays cleaner then cotton socks

Oh no! I haven't looked online for their yarn in a while so I didn't know stocks were running low - I guess it makes sense though because of the sale
