I’m so shocked at the cost of Drops yarn in Australia. Here in the UK it’s regarded as very much a budget friendly yarn, but with excellent quality for the prices, and the colour ranges are brilliant. As another commenter mentioned, Wool Warehouse is most people’s go to for Drops yarn, with prices ranging between £2 and £4 a ball!
I’m a new subscriber, I also found you through your Sophie scarf video, I’m really enjoying your lovely calming presentation, and look forward to seeing many more! X

Hi Nadine! Thank you for another lovely podcast. Your wanting to stay in the moment and not rush the process to produce more was a refreshing take on this craft which so often can create unnecessary anxiety or frustration to keep up with social media. Your voice is calming and I am sure we all share your excitement and enthusiasm for knitting. Keep up the nice work!

Hi Nadine, Drops Air is currently on special at Wool Warehouse (UK) for about $9.50 AUD. Postage is around $16.00 for up to 1.8kg but it is worth it if you put in an order with a few different yarns. Of course, buying local is best, but there are some yarns that are very expensive to buy here. I probably buy from WW about once a year and shop in Australia the rest of the time.

This is a fantastic tip, thank you! I can definitely see the 'drops' appeal at that price point. I've never used Wool Warehouse and can't wait to check them out - your idea of doing infrequent larger orders is an excellent one :)

Ha ha ha! Don't change! Stay excited. What I do when I want to try on a cardigan I'm knitting is I wrap fat rubber bands around the tips of my needles, then the yarn won't slip off the needles. Hope this saves you some dropped stitches in the future. The cardigan is beautiful.

Did you actually say “groovy”? I cracked right up, as a child of the sixties myself, I think you must be a true renaissance gal. Love your podcast. Keep it up! I have decided to switch my Garden sweater to the Rebel, as I love the long cardi and happy to skip the lace (although the simple lace pattern on the Garden is quite striking- maybe even a bit hippy-like- haha). I have a skein of that Pairfect Yarn, so I think I will cast it on after I finish the two pairs of socks on my needles right now. I love the self striping yarns that look like colourwork- really impresses no -
Knitters, when you are actually making a vanilla sock. It keeps the interest up as I can’t wait to see what design is next!

I am a new subscriber having found you through your alternative Sophie Scarf video. You have a lovely voice and a really nice pace to your videos. Please don't work on changing anything about yourself. If you are excited then say it as many times as you like! I found your podcast by watching your Sophie Scarf video. I am not catching up. I have enjoyed your content and your accent. May I suggest a set of Knitting Barber Cords. They are silicone tubing that you put out here tip of your needs and can slide stitches easily over onto them as stitch holders or to allow you to try on a sweater without it popping off the needles. Love you Rebel Cardigan. Keep podcasting please!

How interesting regarding drops yarn, it’s a low cost yarn in the uk, and I’ve stopped using it now as I don’t think the quality is there anymore even for the price. I usually equate a garment in the time it takes, and if something takes time, it’s worth trying to afford a better yarn. You’re vlogs are lovely, and you are just charming to listen to. Thank you for taking the time to share

    • @YourKnittingBestie
      @YourKnittingBestie  8 месяцев назад

I could TOTALLY get on board with that reasoning. It makes a lot of sense to invest in the yarn if you’re going to spend a lot of time making it. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment and for the lovely compliment ❤

Hi Nadine I'm new to your podcast. Another Aussie living in NSW. Miss Brisbane after living in Ascot for 12 years.
I too had trouble with the Pairfect Sock Pattern. So contacted Regia Direct. The Socks on the label are the Men's size with the 64 stitches and knitted on a 2.5 mm needle. So I went down to a 2.25 mm and used the 64 stitches pattern came out exactly the same. Any heel can be used. I used a heel, flap and gusset on one pair and didn't like the look. So I have used an afterthought heel ever since.

Just found your wonderful podcast from Mostly Knitting Podcast. I live in Canada but I do know Wool Warehouse ships to Australia and New Zealand. I just checked the price for Drops Air and it is 9.35 AUS and 8.26 NZ, my shipping to Canada is only approximately 8.00. I always wait for their 30 percent off sales which they do have often, but there is also a discount code for non sale items that gives you 10% off -SC23. They have tons of yarns! Lol not sponsored but a frequent buyer 😊

Hi Nadine, absolutely loving your channel and congratulations on getting your proper handle name! I have a suggestion for your cardigan, you could put your stitches on a stitch holder or hold all the stitches with scrap yarn and block your cardigan before you finish so you can determine how much more to knit before casting off, that way you don't risk it being way too long blocking it after you've already cast off. The colour of your cardigan really suits you!

I'm mostly into crochet but its so good to see and hear an Aussie in the context of yarn and handcraft. I appreciated your thought about the yarn expense. We seem to miss out on so much, here in Australia, with costs being prohibitive with exchange rates and postage. I'd love to hear from yourself or your subscribers of good yarn at good cost. I'm in Victoria so I do make the occasional sojourn to Bendigo Woollen Mills but are there other sources anyone can recommend?

Hello from the U.K. I was interested to hear what you paid for Drops Air. Over here, it is certainly a budget yarn, costing approximately £4.80 per 50g ball- so about 10 AD if I’m correct? Wondering if ordering from the U.K. (laughing hens/wool warehouse) would benefit? That’s assuming you’d order Drops again! Wonderful channel, thank you- love the tropical bird talk too 😊

I really enjoy your videos--thanks for sharing your time. I have only used the Parfait once (I have another ball waiting for a few years to be knit up--ha) and I did a short-row heel. All I did was cut and wind off the rest of the heel yarn color until you get to the return to the regular yarn and work the foot. You will need to cut it again once it's your foot length to do the toe, so it's really about the same process? This assumes your heel and toe colors will be solids. I just saved the cut off yarn and I throw it into a blanket or any other scrap project (could be more socks).

i've seen the pairfect yarns at morris and sons a few times and was curious about how the heel would work out on differently sized feet. i prefer the fit of a fish lips kiss heel which is a type of short row heel so I think It probably wouldn't work out for me. i was shocked when you said the price of the drops yarn as I've only ever heard people talk about it as being super budget friendly, but you're right you may as well go the hand dyed route for that price, although i don't think I've seen the blown/chainette style yarns except for from commercial yarn brands. i have been wanting to try drops air but at that price i might have to choose a project with less yardage than what i was originally thinking.

Ohhh yes the fish lips heel is on my list to try, people seem to love it! If you do decide to try drops, apparently wool warehouse is the way to go 🙌🏻🙌🏻 and you’re right, I’ve only ever seen the chain / blown yarn from commercial brands. I’m actually liking the texture and look of the drops aid much better after blocking my gauge swatch 🙌🏻

The drops air here in the UK is about £4 or so, which does make it very reasonably priced. It's a shame that the import to Australia pushes the cost up so much. I have used it to make a couple of hats and really love the fabric knitted up.

It is a bit of a shame! I really like the fabric, particularly after blocking. Thank you for watching 😊

Hey Nadine, the link to your Instagram is broken. I imagine you just need to update it to reflect the new username 😊Also, that self-patterning sock yarn looks very cool!! Oh and (I've never tried them myself, tho I probably should), but bust darts are supposed to stop your garment from riding up in the front like your cardigan is. And Drops it cheapest for us in Europe, since they're based here, I imagine there are a lot of import fees and taxes involved with getting it to Oz, thus driving up the price 😋

Oh no!! Thank you so much for letting me know about that. I think I've fixed it up now - you're absolutely right, I just needed to update the name. And yes the import fees and taxes will get you every time - my friends and I call it the 'island tax' :P The price we pay for having lovely beaches everywhere! I will have to add trying bust darts to my list - they sound like a fantastic addition to a project to get the fit just right. Thanks for watching and for your comment :)

Weigh your yarn to determine how much you use for a predetermined number of rows. Then weigh remaining yarn to figure how far it will go.
