    A little bit of vinegar in water is useful to not let bleed out the color. Very nice cardigan, lovely Nadine ❤

    Hi Nadine, re your swift issue, it’s worth taking some time before you place it on the swift to just shake out the yarn and separate it a bit because all that’s happening is that it’s still twisted on the swift which just creates a frustrating tangle and it’s no fun! I would suggest before putting it on the swift, just run your hands around the loop a few times, shake it out and you’ll see where the ties are when it’s “straightened” and ready for the swift. Please stay with it because it’ll make your more expensive taste much more palatable 😅

    • @YourKnittingBestie
      @YourKnittingBestie  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hello and thank you so much for this tip! I might take the yarn off the swift and give this a go to see if I can salvage it. Otherwise I will definitely give it a go next time!

    Here in the UK we use 'jumpers' a lot too! Really enjoying your podcasts...thank you!

  • @jodydcrawford5470
    @jodydcrawford5470 6 месяцев назад +3

    If you put your hands within the loop and “snap” the skein out a couple of times in various spots before you put it on the swift, you might find it doesn’t get so tangled. I saw that on a podcast a while back, and have tried it and haven’t had any more tangles, so I’m assuming that’s what has worked and not just my awesome mounting technique… 😏😏
    I’m so keen to try a contiguous-knitting garment - I know Isobell Kraemer sometimes does this in her patterns too. I’ve been looking at that jumper pattern for a while too - it’s so pretty.

    I have several of those sock patterns. Tracie Millar (of the Grocery Girls) Coffee Talk Socks are my favourite socks and I have knit them several times. I have also seen the socks made by several male podcasters (Needles at the Ready). I am about to make the Garden Sweater by Ankestrick as she says she specifically designed it to stay on the shoulders. I have heard good things about her patterns having a great fit and Isabelle Kramer too, so some are on my wish list. Really enjoying your podcasts. Lots of fun. Thanks. Tuning in from BC 🇨🇦

    I knew straight away where you'd purchased your Isager, by the way you pronounced it ( a friend & I had to correct TLYS on pronunciation while they were waiting for the initial shipment to arrive in store!lol). Always jumper, jersey, pullover or cardigan here - never sweater ;) I'll be interested to hear how the Alpaca wears - it's not known for its elasticity.
    The thing that is the most likely culprit for dye bleeding - is the pH of the water used to soak it in. A dyer ( commercial or otherwise) might have the dye molecules bonded to the yarn perfectly at the correct pH4 in their environment, but the minute we put it in water that is slightly more alkaline, & Brisbane is typically 6.5-8.5, the colour can start bleeding. Of course, various additives add to the alkalinity of the water - while others (like vinegar & citric acid) lower it.

    Firstly, thanks for recommending The Simple Thing in your Sophie scarf video - I made 2 as gifts and am working on one for myself.
    Second, one thing I noticed was that, using the recommended yarn and needles, the resulting fabric felt very dense. I ended up going 2 sizes up on the needles and got a drape I liked. However once I blocked them they loosened up even more. I wonder if that would have happened if I stuck to the original needle size.
    All that to say: maybe you can block what you have of the 1st version of the scarf to see if the resulting fabric has better drape.

    Hi Nadine. If you go to your swift, always tease out the yarn it sounds like it’s “catching”. Also the first time or two the swift turns a full rotation, make sure the yarn is at the front and the skein isn’t twisted before you keep going. It should be fine. 🧶🤗

    Hi Nadine. Love your podcast. You have such a soothing voice and you are such a treat to watch. For your Malabrigo Arroyo, I think you have enough for a vest especially at your size. I would avoid anything with cables as they would get lost in the variegation. Arroyo is a beautiful sport weight yarn. Try looking at the Minimal Vest by Kate Terentveya or the Maple Vest by Yun Jeong. The latter would be beautiful and I think you have enough if you crop it and eliminate the longer hem in the back. A size small which gives a finished bust of 44" (so lots of ease) would most likely work for you.

    • @YourKnittingBestie
      @YourKnittingBestie  6 месяцев назад

    Hi, just writing to say how much i enjoy your podcasts. i love the variety, the attention to detail (e.g cost of yarn etc). I don't know if you intend to go out and about. I would love to see the craft store / knitting store and just parts of where you live. i live in the UK. Just subscribed because you are great company. The rebel cardi is superb and worth the out lay, lol. Knitters stick together. I'm english and use jumper, pullover and sweater. Not sure what the difference are, maybe just language. With stitches such as brioche and fisherman's rib I was taught that you need to use a fineryarn and larger needles to get a good fabric. 4ply,sort weight. On size 4mm needles for example. I always swatch. It's my favourite stitch. I'm glad you said about litg as I was gifted 3 skeins and haven't used them because of winding them. I'd like to ask you a question. Why do you buy yarn from outside of Australia? Looking forward to your next episode, thank you.

    love listening to your aussie accent. I love your Rebel cardigan and you logic $ I think you need to add the value or the wearability of the garment. I'm in Nz, blue dyes do tend to bleed i have been advised to use cold water to block and use hair conditioner instead of wool wash. i am learning the shadow wrap short row heel on my current sock project. i was wearing my finished mkal while watching your podcast, i wore it out tonight and had so many compliments. it's in deep teals and greys merino silk blends.
