Drops is currently my absolute favourite among yarn manufacturers for several reasons: they have a gorgeous range of yarns that serve different purposes (I knit a lot for dogs, so for them I need a sturdier yarn like Drops Alaska, but then if I want to make something non scratchy and airy for myself, I go for the Drops Air and it's just pure bliss); all of the yarns I've tried are high quality (are there better out there? yes, but Drops is still very high quality); the pricing is super affordable and not the least - they are available where I live which I can't say about most of the yarn brands other than drops. And also, Drops pattern library is a very nice inspiration dive!

Would love to know how you find Drops Air in terms of longevity! I'm obsessed with the colors and want to make a sweater, but worry it will stretch or wear out easily.

I'm literally obsessed with Drops Paris that I use for colorful bathroom rugs (Tinna Thorudottir's patterns) and I'm almost done with a huge blanket made of Drops Alaska. It's the cheapest wool I've found, on sale it was just 1,50€ per skein!

  • @MarieTerndrup

Filcolana is my all time favorite yarn brand. Here in Denmark their prices are quite affordable considering the quality. Especially arwetta (their merino sock yarn) and their Peruvian highland wool is a favorite of mine, and their silk mohair, tilia, while on the pricy side, is the softest mohair I’ve ever felt. Also, their colour range is AMAZING

First of all, I love your content, you have a great personality and you are an inspiration. I've been knitting for about three years and I'm still learning a lot. I also knitted the Sunday Brunch Sweater with drops and actually find it too itchy for me. I can't wear it on bare skin, and I always have to pull something under it. I'm apparently extra sensitive. But it was still a great project.

I love natural fibres too. I am extremely sensitive to any sheep wool other than merino wool, so it is my go-to sheeps wool yarn for softness without any itch at all. I highly recommend merino for anyone with skin sensitivities to sheep wool. It is the finest type of sheep wool in the world, but it does tend to be a bit more expensive than typical sheep wool. I love alpaca, too, it is so incredibly soft and makes amazing lightweight scarves. I currently have a sweater on my knitting cables in a heathered grey colored Cascade yarn in a superwash merino wool that is a shawl collared button up aran cabled sweater for myself. I am knitting it back and forth rather than in the round, and loving every stitch of it! I have only to finish a few more inches, stitch it together, then knit the ribbing for the button holes, collar, and button placement. I am finishing it up none too soon, just as the weather has turned cooler for fall. It is so difficult finding patterns for men that I am trying to work up the nerve to try creating my own patterns. I have some ideas for combinations, but, as you already know, making it work is quite a daunting task, (i.e. your wedding dress.) I love that you have made use of combined knit and crochet designs, something I have toyed with a little, myself. I really want to dive deeper into experimenting with that even more in the future.
Edit - I just realized that if anyone were to play the drinking game with the number of times I said "sheep wool," they would be completely schnockered before they finished reading my comment! 🤣

I really like drops brushed alpakka silk (at a tighter guage) knitted Double 20st/10 cm gives a nice fabric, single 30st/10 cm is really nice. I see you are into the soft fluffy stuff, which I also like. But i have also have a love for rustic wool yarns, (to wear over thin cotton sweathers) like Peer Gynt from Sandnes yarns, it gives a sturdy everlasting garment. Another Norwegian wool that I loooove is Finull by Rauma. This wool yarn gives light and warm garments. The pelt wool from Hillesvåg is also wonderful.

Thank you for this video. I’m a relatively new knitter and am trying out several different patterns and techniques right now to see what works for me in terms of fit, style, and material (especially as I live in an area of the US that is pretty warm the majority of the year), so I’ve been using more inexpensive blends. Kroy Paton sock yarn, Lion’s Brand Wool Ease, and various cotton types make up my current stash. Good thing too because I already have a couple of Frankensocks as a result of learning how to knit socks and various heel styles. 😂 But as I learn the process of how to knit socks and garments, I do want to transition to yarns that will produce a more polished finished item, hence my search for yarn reviews. I especially liked how you showed the two yarns in the same project and the difference between the stitch definition and wear. That was particularly enlightening.

The fuzzier the wool the harder to unravel. Sometimes not so much that it´s impossible, but often the fine hairs get so entangled that unravelling is no longer possible if there is a mistake and the thread is more likely to break if you try.🧶 I just wanted to add that if a beginner knitter falls in love with this type of wool, because the results are undeniably beautiful... Love the colourstory of your video. 🥰 Knowing your videos for a while I´m sure that´s not a coincidence.💗

I love to knit with natural fibres too. Australian Merino either 100% or mixed with Alpaca or synthetics for sock knitting for the hardwearing longevity. Alpaca is so soft to knit with and I love wearing it against my skin but it doesn't keep memory or shape well so it is often better in a mix or if it is 100% I love knitting cowls with it because they're generally not being stretched as you wear them. I also love to work with cotton. Cotton also doesn't have memory however for summery tops and smaller projects cotton is lovely to work with. Bendigo Woollen Mills in Victoria, Australia have awesome cotton yarns in various weights from fingering to Aran. Possum is also a very soft fibre to knit with. It is often found in Australian and New Zealand yarns as a yarn mix. I'm not as keen on wearing or knitting with mohair, cashmere or similar yarns because I find those whispering fluffy bits irritating on my skin, which makes me interested in Drops Wish yarn thank you for sharing I haven't heard of the Wish yarn before. You have some gorgeous knits and yarns so wonderful to see different yarns people work with and patterns. Great episode thank you!

Lovely video and this new sweater with round yoke is 😍 I always try to buy yarn on sale and get like 50 skeins at once 🙈 Honestly, even the 2€ sock yarn from Adlibris feels so much more quality in sweater than most knits from Zara 😁

Ooh yes I’ve tried some of the adlibris yarns and I’ve also found some of them to be so nice quality (not maybe all the colours equally appealing but some really good ones) And yes I agree about the Zara quality, it’s like after one wash the whole garment loses its shape 🧐

I love this video so much, thank you! I want to try them all, but I’m probably going to start with something from Sandnes. I’m interested in all the ideas for other videos you mentioned.

My favorite have been drops alpaca, but I bought Sandnes alpakka silke yarn recently and it’s just wonderful to knit with 😊 Also super excited to knit with drops sky! So soft and light, and thick compared to the thin yarns I usually knit with.

Hello Kika, love your channel!!!! Can you do a video on charts if possible? There are many patterns I come across that I don’t try because charts intimidate me!

I am knitting with two strands and the one is Drops Air for the first time. I really am loving it so far! I am drawn very much to the same style as you so I’m looking forward to trying some of these yarns that you suggest. Thanks for sharing!!

I have knitted some sweaters in drops air and wish but the garments get pilly really fast. Do you have any tips on how to keep it neat? Maybe you could make a video on how you take care of your knitted stuff?😃

Thank you Kika! I followed your recommendations and ordered the drops air and brushed alpaca silk to knit my first sweater. They feel so soft and gentle on the skin! I compared them with drops kid silk and they feel really different. Looking forward to try out Sandnes Garn yarns next! 😃 Also looking forward to getting your new book in digital format! 😉

maybe you could do a video on how to choose yarn alternatives to the one recommended in a pattern? :) What to look out for, etc, I always get very nervous when I'm trying to chose a different yarn...

Great video. I've just starting knitting with Sadnes Garn and Knitting for Olive. Both are wonderful. I would like to try Drops but it is difficult to buy in the US.
I live in Florida in the winter so would be interested in what yarns you use for summer knits. I just purchased some Knitting for Olive merino cotton for a summer tee. I can't wait to start; it is so soft and smooth.

Wow what a beautiful knits you have 😍. Loved your recommendations, I've made a sweater with Holstgarn supersoft and drops silk mohair together, it s still a bit itchy but love the end result. I don't mind that it's a bit itchy, now I'm making the sweater Islander with Kauni yarn, very rustic yarn, but love how much yarn you get from 1 ball off yarn. But most off all I knit with sockyarn from Opal, Regia or handdyed. Happy knitting, Petra

Loved this and you made me feel a tiny bit less guilty about my own stash😀 Right now My fav wool is ‘crazy sexy’ from wool and the gang’… would LOVE to learn how to knit some of those beautiful lace stitches… a future video? 💕

Oooh yes the crazy sexy wool is such a gorgeous classic! 😍😍💕 Yes I’m definitely planning on making some lace pattern tutorials in the future, it’s such a beautiful technique with so much variation made possible and really quite easy when you get the basic stitches involved 😀🧶

Ihana video! Tosi inspiroiva. Itse olen tehnyt eniten Drops Air-langasta, se on niin ihana! Toinen on drops brushed alpaca silk. Myös Drops wish kirii kovaa suosikkeihin, tulispa niihin vaan pian lisää keväisiä sävyjä.

    Love this fun video ☺️
I come form a photography background and have ventured into yarn 🧶 so fun that we have that I common 😄
Often nylon is added to the yarn for sturdiness. It’s also added to the yarn so the garment keeps its shape, for example in the chunky fluffy yarn that isn’t spun as tightly as other yarns ☺️
