    This gave me the fair isle knitting bug!! I just ordered yarn for a two-colour fair isle cardigan, but next I really want to attempt a Marie Wallin style garment. I think the colours you chose were so key to updating the knit and making it feel modern - I love Marie Wallin charts but I’m not always in love with her colour palettes for me personally (even though they are objectively stunning). Your tips on choosing colours were super helpful!

    • @whatsmilimaking
      @whatsmilimaking  2 месяца назад

      Can totally relate-- I love the way her designs look, but I don't think the colors always work with my personal style and existing wardrobe. Personalizing the palette makes all the difference! A two-color fair isle project sounds so timeless ❤️ Hope you enjoy making it!

    i've loved watching your process! i've mostly only ever seen really muted color palettes for fair isle so its been something i admired, but never thought of doing myself. seeing your bright pinks knit up though makes me wanna dabble in fair isle

      @whatsmilimaking  2 месяца назад

      Making up your own color palette is a bit more work but sooo worth it! Also, finding color inspiration from ready to wear sweaters might be the move. I think they're often more colorful than the palettes used in hand knit fair isle patterns 🌈

    So insanely complex but bravo!! Love the colour choices. I made a Marie Wallin knit (Chestnut) but did it with her kit so all the colour choices were made for me. I also chose to steek the front opening for the cardi and worked a way to steek the armholes too (going bottom up). I'm with you that once you figure out the charts and do the math, fair isle knitting it is quite enjoyable and quick to do! Great process vid!

    If it's a vintage pattern then I'm guessing that it was designed to be knit flat because knitters in the vintage times didn't have circular needles. My grandmother churned out sweaters her whole life. All flat. Because straight needles was what she had.

  • @ElinJones-ee2ir
