      In Scotland the refs are treated with respect. I think it's because they talk to the teams before the matches, don't pretend to be infallible and if you talk back to them your team gets penalised. Also, in the amateur game they are unpaid volunteers and you can't legally play without them.

    • @Greendotz
      @Greendotz 6 лет назад +1

      There is a sort of tradition about it, but I think the fact that the ref is mid'ed and cam'd also plays a very big part in it. Both player and referee know that they're both completely accountable and have the eyes and ears of thousands on them.

    • @Finderskeepers.
      @Finderskeepers. 6 лет назад

      That's a referee failure. He has the option to punish that disrespect but chooses not to. A few penalties or red cards would fix it very quickly with a fair warning to both teams in the dressing room before hand. The French referees are known to be more sensitive with this rule, consequently the players are more careful.

    2:15 Hahaha, see number 7 push number 21 away and then begin apologising profusely? As an amateur rugby player myself, I can tell you two things about rugby referees.
    1. Only the captain gets to speak to the ref (that's why you always see two players from the same team when the ref is speaking to the "criminal." one is the bad boy, and one is the captain.)
    2. To add onto that, if you try to complain or tell the ref how to do their job, your teammates will be pissed as hell because the ref can penalise your team for that, too.

    To referee / umpire, you need to be cool, calm, collected; know the rules and how to apply them, and be the equal of the smiling assassin. Many people say that I suffer from referee / umpires' lament - blind in one eye and can not see out the other! And, yes, I am an umpire!
    It also helps to have a quiet word to the players before the game, so that they know what to expect from you as an official. Basketball / Australian Rules, encourage to play the ball and protect the player in front and that makes the ball their object. It is also quietly mentioned not to backchat or argue... real estate can get very costly if that is to happen! Encourage good, clean and fair play, but consistently penalise where the wrong thing is done.

    I'm a big football fan (also rugby), but I really love these referees. Players might get angry for their decisions sometimes, but they never start talking shit to the referee, and even if they do so, the referees won't take it. That's really awesome

  • @nitetrane98
    @nitetrane98 5 лет назад +3

    I know nothing about rugby rules and evidently a lot of the players don't either. Ref spends a lot of time explaining what can and can't be done to the players.

      The players know the laws,..the ref is there to uphold it when the players infringe them?..

      It's done for purposes of clarity. How would you play a sport without knowing the rules?

    • @badshifu
      @badshifu 5 лет назад +1

      Oh trust me most players do know the rules. Its just that most of them just argue with the ref hoping to get away with some infringements.

      Clarification on the penalty. Makes sure the player knows EXACTLY what you did wrong.

    7:50 he couldve easily yellow carded the player who was arguing here. He shouldn't be saying "it's not a penalty try" as if the referee doesn't know what he's doing. Just goes to show despite the fact that rugby referees are stricter, they also understand the game both mentally and physically

    I usually expect players to respect the referee, but Wayne Barnes' irreverence to the greatest player on the planet - Andy Goode - is shocking.

    What did TJ say to the ref at about 1:30

    • @TDMFAN
      @TDMFAN 7 лет назад +20

      So he'd quick-tapped the ball and scored a try, but before they kicked the conversion the TMO pointed out that he had not in fact touched the ball with his foot so it wasn't a proper quick-tap so the try was disallowed. TJ pointed out that since the penalty hadn't been played properly that they would then have to go back to that penalty (I think they had been talking about a scrum for the opposition or something).
      Was pretty hilarious to see live.

      Saoirse del Tufo i understand the reasoning of it buy tbf the law doesnt actually say what to do in this scenario.

    • @bradjohnston4966
      @bradjohnston4966 6 лет назад +1

      While law may not be clear. The fact is game was never properly restarted. Standard would be to go back to the point of needed restart. Think of soccer law about taking a quick restart while the ball is still rolling. Just go back and take the kick properly.
