      This is how stones are set, not how jewellery is made. The jewellery is already made and he's setting the stones

    • @gnarbeljo8980
      @gnarbeljo8980 3 года назад

      This only covers pavé stone setting, and indeed in great detail. However like the description says the jewelry piece itself isn’t hand made with old school techniques but printed and cast first, extremely common these days. Goldsmiths who make this kind of ring from start to finish including the setting are rare.
      People would rather pay less so those artisans and methods are becoming scarce as the printing and casting with stone setters finishing off with stones has exploded on an industrial level with a wide span of cheap and ugly to great quality work.
      Unfortunately alot of people these days can’t tell the difference and don’t even bring a loup when shopping for jewelry, so many spend on cheap craftmanship.
      This video is great and shows the work involved setting stones in this style.
      And Mendelsohn to boot!
      😃

      hey all.. thanks for the clarification, and I do love detail.. I understand this is just the stone setting process. I was just speaking loose by saying "how jewelry is made". Stone setting is what I really meant. But thanks yall

      @@gnarbeljo8980 tbh if you do casting right you can make a just as good piece in half the time and it saves a lot of effort the ones who can make it without a cast usually don’t bother since it’s so much more effort for the same amount of money

    Absolutely beautiful work, Im currently working my way up to doing things like this, starting by making simple anniversary bands. Videos like this really help me visualize new technique, so thank you so much. Im only 22, and have been in the industry since high school. I have found it very difficult to learn fabrication techniques... Because I dont see many jewelers that do it anymore, and the ones that do wont sit down and show me. So I have to teach myself... Seems like people prefer CAD to hand made stuff nowadays. Kind of a pity. Anyway, thanks for the great videos. Hope I can be this good some day.

      @heinikendude  6 лет назад +3

      Morgan Olfursson thanks for your comment and questions. It indeed takes a lot of patience and also practice. Th diamonds go as small as 0.55mm in diameter (not in this ring though) and are all precise machine cut with 57 facets.

      This is phenomenal . Thanks so much for taking the time to answer . You are a tremendous artist and craftsman and though people like you are behind the most brilliant (no pun intended) creations in terms of jewelry out there today and throughout history , nobody really knows your names . It is like painting or sculpting a masterpiece and not signing it , i find it very humble and humbling at the same time .
      And on a totally different note , I am a veterinarian and i don't think my hands are as steady as yours so congrats for that too, your hands and finger fine muscle control is very impressive .

    Never knew so much work went into setting decent sized diamonds. I always knew it was many hours of labor for the tiny little dust sized ones that are usually found on watches.
    But wow, thats really a multi step process for rings too. Looks like something id enjoy for work, im a perfectionist and ive got the hands of a surgeon, but cutting gold looks more fun.

    Those diamonds are being set quite close to one another...If the ring ever bends they'll want to pop out

    • @heinikendude
      @heinikendude  6 лет назад +2

      Nathan Kay totally correct ! That’s why the ring is tailor made and if we would need to resize it every stone would need to be checked.

    It would be nice if one side was full of white diamonds, and the other side with black diamonds. Like a ying yang...

    Amazing skill and experience, but i dont understand how the diamonds get holder, they dont felt down? Just putting inside like that? I mean i think there was some king of glue or something like that, hahaha sorry for my bad english, can somebody explain me please, im so curious..

    • @heinikendude
      @heinikendude  6 лет назад +2

      theskullgamer 78 no glue ! Definitely not ;-) diamonds are all hold by tiny prongs that are left over after all the cutting. These are eventually bent over the diamonds as you see towards the end of the video

      @@heinikendude thanks for the answer, yes now i understand, still not understanding how you create the tiny prong, well i can stay all day watching your job.... Makes me want to try, when i see your passion and how beautiful its the ring, i really want to try, great skill, great job Sir, greetings from Italy

    looks easy now! just cut a divot, bevel it wider and cut fingers at each setting, then the stone pressed in and fingers bent over. better have high magnification to it so small lol

    Hey! Very informative video, thanks for making this. I'm a newbie at these things but how are diamonds held in place in stainless steels? Does the prong bending method work on harder metals too?

    • @heinikendude
      @heinikendude  6 лет назад +1

      dj ilu hi and thanks for the comment. Stainless steel works the same way , only is a bit harder due to the characteristics of the metal

    I gotta ask as an artist myself. What happens with a mistake, is it often possible to repair, or are you just that good...?
    I am a hyper realism artist using pencil, if I make a mistake its usually not possible to "erase" it, and I often change the piece or start fresh.

    I love this video. I am an apprentice jeweler about to be a C bench jeweler and I have to ask, what is the tool you are using to hold the diamonds when you are setting them? I've never seen that before. Right now all I use is a pair of tweezers or a bit of wax. Thanks!

    • @heinikendude
      @heinikendude  6 лет назад

      J Grizzle thanks for your question. This is a big beading tool which I dip in water to create a adhesion effect on the table of the tiny diamonds
