    Entertaining and informative as always! I like how you are actually helping and informing people of all the pitfalls of whatever engine you are building!
    Cheers for sharing...

    Pretty sure the buckets go before the lifters. About to do the same freshen up with arp kit all round inc headbolts. Looking at raptor superchargers to determine cam

    Exactly what I'm planning to do with my LS....On the cleaning side that is lol...

    I’m surprised the customer didn’t want to put a set of rings and bearings through the engine considering the amount of KM’s it’s done...
    Did the heads end up getting the seats cut and valve faced?

    • @BoostGumps
      @BoostGumps  3 года назад +1

      We have done many many LS’s with more KMs that we have pulled down and they have been fine. Hardened sleeves and low tension rings coupled with a great oiling system does wonders for these bottom ends. We have pulled down 400k+ km LS’s that still had cross-hatching in the bores.
      Yeh the intakes lapped up fine but the exhaust valves and seats were recut while the heads were at the machine shop.

    Sorry I'm late! Great video! What's the reasoning behind using coffee filters as cleaning rags? Sorry if you've already explained it, apparently I forgot. :P

    Hey boys, I’m in SA and looking to get the same work done on my L76. Including a DOD Delete, what price range am I looking at give or take?

    Stupid question but what process do you use to clean the tops of the pistons and head gasket surface ?

  • @Gooie69

    Do you ever dial the cams in or have you found they are good dot to dot? I got a chi trunion kit for my build and was pretty impressed with the quality and ease of fitting. As for the pump i put a melling on and the instructions that came with the rollmaster double row timing chain called for silicon between the spacer pump and block. Makes you wonder how many are running around with silicone in the galleries. 515 or 518 being an anaerobic sealant is the go but you'll find it won't cure on the melling pump surface because of the coating on the pump. I used it between the alloy pump spacer and block and machined an oring groove on the pump to spacer side.

      @BoostGumps  3 года назад +1

      O-ring grove is a good idea!
      We used to degree in every single cam. We still do if we have one custom ground or use any cam from a different company. We have just done that many off the shelf crow cams at this point and they are always bang on, so many that we dont really worry much when its an off the shelf cam from crow

    When I put a cam in my stock ls1 it never had any tensioner set up. Hmm probs why my timing chain makes odd noises now and then

    • @Gooie69
      @Gooie69 3 года назад +1

      Ls1's don't have a tensioner and you shouldn't get any noise from it. Unless you put a double row chain on and didnt clearance the timing cover properly?

      @@Gooie69 ah okay so I'm not going mad. And nope just stock chain. Might be a bit stretched then

    How the hell do you have time to do these videos? With the quality of the work you do I'd expect customers lined up around the block and a bunch of scammers in the market taking advantage of your reputation.
    I'm imagining you have global customers too right?

    Should you check the bearings since it's had a new oil pump?

    • @BoostGumps
      @BoostGumps  3 года назад +1

      We had a good feel around the bottom end while the sump was off just to make sure nothing was out of the ordinary. The oil we dropped out of it was clean and based on the owner telling us it made no noises while running we figured it should be fine

  • @kegginbeer6430

    Do you guys think there’s a need for a double row timing chain?

    • @BoostGumps
      @BoostGumps  Год назад

      Not particularly no. We are yet to actually see a single row fail in a hydro roller setup. The valve train really isn’t loaded up that hard.
      If you’re looking at big solid roller big rpm then yes. But for 90% of applications a single row is plenty. Most people just ask for double row so they can say they have it 🤷‍♂️

  • @kronicismygame

    hey mate do you guys do any fab work, example being log manifolds for ls1?

    • @BoostGumps
      @BoostGumps  3 года назад

      We can, we generally try not to though. Our fab work is passable but it isnt top notch. Given that we are already absolutely flat out we try and send our fab work away to people where we know they will get a better result for their money.

    Is new cam bearing not a good idea on an L98 with 260,000 kms?

      Sure, if youre pulling apart the bottom end.
