  • Let's begin 2019 with some classical music on the theremin. Playing Debussy's first arabesque was quite a challenge on both instruments.
    Hope that you will appreciate this unusual arrangement !

      Amazing ! It’s been a very long time I had this piece in mind. But it was sooo difficult to play it well on the theremin and make it sound elegant - and on pitch of course… I couldn’t have achieved this some years ago. Finally I just reconsidered this last weekend as I was looking for a piece to play on theremin and piano. It was fun also to make the video-editing: since my weird rendition of Halvorsen’s Passacaglia I’ve never been through such a big work... And yes, I played the piano as well - quite challenging as I’m only a side-hobbyist of this instrument…
      I’m glad you liked it anyway ;)

    • @VioletHorrorshow
      @VioletHorrorshow 5 лет назад +37

      Dr. Siracha -Theremin is probably the only instrument (including voice) I know that you don’t touch to produce a sound. That makes it a little bit harder, in my opinion, to feel how your movements affect the sound.
      When I play, I can feel how my hand moves on a vibrating string to create higher or lower pitch (by feeling string tension). I can feel larger vibrations against my fingers when I bow louder. I can feel resistance, stops, starts, bounces, smoothness, etc. Touch helps a lot when playing an instrument, and going without when making music it takes a little of our intuition away. Theremin must rely a good deal on having a good ear.
      If you mean getting good at an instrument requires the same kind of work ethic across the board... I guess. Same with a lot of skills.

      Sarah Rachel ruclips.net/video/LYSGTkNtazo/видео.html it was harder before this girl created the 13 hand positions I think it is. You just have to tune it to your surroundings and have muscle memory so it is hard but when you get used to it I imagine learning it is like learning any other instrument. The hand positions are octaves.

    J'étais vite fait passé sur cette vidéo... et passé à côté tout compte fait ! Déjà l'interprêtation au piano est superbe, mais la matrise du Theremin est incroyable. Gregoire Blanc, vous êtes un véritable virtuose, j'engage toutes les personnes qui ont osées mettre un "j'aime pas" à essayer de jouer du Theremin. La critique est facile, mais l'art est difficile. Et arriver à un tel niveau de virtuosité dans un art aussi compliqué et casse-gueule que le Theremin, ça touche au prodigieux. Et je le pense sincèrement.

    I love Debussy, especially this piece. I have always loved the sounds of the string instruments, playing a couple of them myself. The theremin has a sound that is incredibly similar, yet with its own unique twist on it. I saw your video with the musical saw, and I feel like that is the perfect crossover point between the two worlds. Now I want to learn the musical saw!

    Super encore et toujours. Merci d'apporter un peu de beauté dans ce monde qui semble s'en aller en déperdition.

    Arabesque is a beautiful piece, and the theremin really brings out that melody for what it's really worth. The tones are just slightly hazy, giving it the aura of warmth and fluidity. Amazing arrangement with the piano too!

    I love how the theremin sings a solo in this one. At the beginning, it sounds like a beautiful voice🌻
