Theremin is the most difficult instrument to play. From personal experience, i would guess combine trombone and violin together for the skill set required. Plus. if you play the instrument for a while, you will notice your pitch recognition becomes much more precise. Highly recommend learning for any musician.

Denisa StarWars Solo these kinds of instruments have only threehomes: the Internet, experimental rock music, and contemporary classical. The issue is that the monophonic properties of the instrument along with the instability of the pitch in the hands of even average players mean that it can really only be really used as a lead instrument, and the skill requirement for even basic lines is very high.
Unfortunately the theremin is at a tough spot in music, which is why it’s never really been prominent. Who knows though, with the way that hip hop has been progressing into a more experimental genre, perhaps it’ll find some use there. I could see it being used for a Flying Lotus, Tyler the Creator, or even Kendrick Lamar song.

@@KnzoVortex Not really, pop music is dominant for decades now, It's the music of our generation and probably from our parents too. We should have nostalgia for this kind of shit, but there's people who are not like cows, and don't follow the trends only because others do.
Pop celebrities also don't know how to "write spectacular pop songs", It's the reason why they pay alot to someone else to compose and write music for them. There's music "by" Katy Perry that was composed by 10 or more composers/lyricists. And for the majority of these "artists" the ghost writers/composers are the same people.
I have a recomendion to everyone in this thread. Search in youtube for a monologue called "The Tyranny of pop music", by Roger Scruton. It's great.

This is the sound of melancholy and some weird peacefulness. And sadness. I’m getting into synthesizers and I’m really wondering what strange noises you could get out of a theremin by running it through some modules.
Also, about your skill with both the saw and the theremin, do you know if you just became really incredibly fast at finding and holding on the right pitch, or is it just second nature and do you know exactly at which position is which note? On that subject, are you able to (for example) immediately put your hand in the position that a C is played?

There are some things that can only be fully appreciated from a distance because the sense of wonder and novelty remains unspoiled by any personal experience with what's on display. I was a skateboarder in my younger days, and that experience informs my enjoyment of what people are doing with the sport or artform or whatever you want to call it. I know what's involved and what's impressive and why, but as much as my comprehension is expanded by that experience, my wonder is diminished and it becomes more of a technical analysis than just a raw spectacle.
But I know nothing of the Theremin or playing a saw, and so a performance like this is outside of any personal experience, and there's a magic to it that exists for me precisely because I don't know what I'm looking at. The result is objectively good, but if he were doing anything less than perfectly I wouldn't know it.
As we get older there are fewer wide-eyed moments where we are locked into that state of novelty where we know we're witnessing something beautiful, but don't have the language to legitimately hold a more specific opinion than that, and in fact might err on the side of willful ignorance just to avoid cheapening it.
This is one of those things.
