Check out this first time watching horror reaction video for Killer Klowns From Outer Space, and see if I can make it as a horror movie rookie. Horror is a genre I've barely explored, mostly because I'm a huge wuss. Typically my Halloween movie viewings consist of Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown. This year I decided to expand my horror movie knowledge and try and watch these horror movie fan favourites.

This is one of my biggest comfort movies, no guilt at all watching this. They knew exactly what movie they were making and knocked it out of the park.
Such a true statement. Killer Klowns from Outer space is top 105 of my favorite movies.
It is truly the gold standard of B horror movies!
@@Otisboy121 More like a terrible standard, if people hated this movie for being PG-13 so much? I'll just tell the company who made this movie to make a goddamn reboot with all that "serious-minded" edginess bullcrap.
Hell of a good flick! And no, mind you, I do not mean "so bad it's good" bull$h!t - I actually think it's just plain awesome! I find this flick to be really clever and imaginative and admire it for THAT.
@@kinnikuman-devilman_fan_2002 I know this was a year ago but I’m really curious on how they could make this more bloody?? I feel like since the way they kill peoples isn’t bloody, it’s a natural byproduct to be pg-13 or something close
10:42* speaking of Halloween, they even had a Killer Klowns attraction at last year at Universal's Halloween Horror Nights.
It also had a scarezone in 2018 where the scareactors often have dance parties when the main theme song plays.
The original "So Bad It's Good" classic.
Fun Fact: The giant "King Klown" from the ending sequence, affectionately called "Klownzilla" by the Chiodo brothers, was actually played by one of them (Charles Chiodo).
Its a great b movie its watchable you want a unwatchable movie watch troll 2😌
It's not even bad, though. They took a bizarre and goofy premise and ran with it brilliantly. They were clever throughout, subverted expectations all over the place, played with genre tropes; what more could you ask for?
There's a difference between a bad movie and deliberately-trashy one (no disrespect intended to KKfOS; "trashy" can be smart and a lot of fun!). I'm almost not sure it's a b-movie, either, as b-movies are defined by their limited budgets. KKfOS kinda is, too, but the cheesiness of some of the props and sets seems almost deliberately calculated to work with the premise. I don't think KKfOS would be nearly as fun if the effects were slick.
@@mikesilva3868 Troll 2 isn't unwatchable it's just so bad it's good, what makes Troll 2 even funnier is that the director to this day thinks it's a masterpiece
It’s not bad tho, it’s just a genuinely good movie. I feel like the people who say so bad it’s good overuse the hell out of it
The Chiodo brothers were mainly FX artists at the time of making that, they're still working today in special effects and there's been talks of a Syfy series of Killer Klowns.
They were supposed to make a sequal called The Return of the Killer Klowns From Outer Space in 3D but Syfy didn't want to sufficiently invest in making it Syfy wanted make it for 2 million dollars but The Chiodo brothers wanted a bigger budget so they decided not to do it. Even MGM, who controls the rights to the movie didn't want to do it they said "it was a more valuable property than just signing off for that little money."
Honestly, I love this movie. It's one of those weird 80's horror-comedies with a whacky but unique concept, but I think it's really good for what it is.
It doesn't try to be too serious and it has some genuinely creepy parts as well, like the scene with officer Mooney as Jumbo's puppet.
Maybe I'm being a bit biased as this movie holds a nostalgic value to me (I saw it for the first time when I was 10, over a decade ago now), but it left a lasting impact on me, and I find myself coming back to it every now and then. Definitely a comfort movie for me, and perfect for the fall/Halloween season.
I also noticed you said that you haven't seen Police Academy, and I'd recommend watching it! It's very 80's humor, but definitely one of my other comfort movies.
Check out Kentucky fried movie its the funniest movie ever made 😊
True on the "too serious" part, I wish people would take a break from anything that's "serious-minded" all the time like how I did, and believe me or not if I did get too obsessed with serious-mindedness?? then I might end up being an edgelord like them.
The score for Killer Klowns From Outer Space was composed by John Massari, and the title song "Killer Klowns" was written and performed by the American punk rock band the Dickies and was released on their album 'Killer Klowns from Outer Space' in 1988.
Fun Fact; John Massari also composed the music for the 1988 feature 'The Wizard of Speed and Time'. If you haven't seen it, you really should... :-)
@@daveweston5158 Hey I was gonna make that comment >:( lol
John Massari also did the Electric LIght Parade song for Disneyland. "The Wizard of Speed and Time" has been uploaded to RUclips with the creator's blessing, and I think it would be great to see reactions to it because it's so fun.
The Dickies are even more campy than this movie. 😂👍
Another fun fact: The movie Kick-Ass used their song "Banana Splits(Tra La La)" during the debut of "Hit-Girl" in that fight scene.
Reel Reviews With Jen! "In space, no one can eat Ice Cream !"
Fun fact: In Clown World this won an Academy Award for best film.
"Killer KLOWNS from Outer Space? Well, holy shit!"
Love the Klowns theme as they walk towards the town.
This move is so great! The only clown movie I enjoyed haha
Did you forget Mooney telling them earlier "You're not going to turn me into a dummy"?
Just set-ups and payoffs all over the place with this one! You love to see it!
Those cotton candy cocoons used to freak me out when I was a kid!
The klowns in this movie were reused as the trolls in Ernest Scared Stupid a few years after this movie came out. Definitely another movie to check out especially for spooky season
"Real Bavarian miak!"
A sequel needs to be made like now.
They can call it:
Revenge of the Killer Klowns
There not its gunna be a 10 part mini series its been confirmed
I'm pretty sure the striped pipes are cardboard cores from rolls of paper before it's cut down for home use.
I used to work in a paper mill. I saw them all the time.
I would say PVC pipe but it's expensive, the cardboard would be a lot cheaper and could still be used by the paper mill after they were done with them.
This movie is a guilty pleasure! I have the 30th Anniversary Edition Blu Ray From Arrow Video. I even have a T shirt with the Killer Klowns! There was even talks of a Sequel,Return Of The Killer Klowns From Outer Space in 3D, where the lead character Mike Tobacco, was going to be a conspiracy theorist, trying to prove that the Klowns might come back for revenge, until a group of teens learn he was right. They them team up with Mike to fight back against the Klowns. However, it's been put on hold, but we might even get a spin off TV series on SYFY soon.
Oh my God, that's amazing!
WHAT is the MEANING "a guilty pleasure" by the way? Is it a movie that one isn't ALLOWED to like or something?
@@winslow-eh5kv Yes, that's exactly what it means.
What the world needs is the ultimate crossover... Killer Clowns meet the Killer Tomatoes!
"Killer Clowns v. Killer Tomatoes: Whoever wins, we lose."
This is the real version of AvP we didn't know we needed.
Hell of a good flick here! And no, mind you, I do not mean "so bad it's good" bull$h!t - I actually think it's just plain awesome! I find this flick to be really clever and imaginative and admire it for THAT.
This movie is actually an almost point by point remake of the 1958 sci fi classic "The Blob".
PARODY or SPOOF would both be more apt terms than "remake" I think.
@@winslow-eh5kv granted.
I was with this girl I liked about 20 years ago when we went to Best Buy. I grabbed this movie off the shelf and was all “ COOL! They have Killer Klowns from Outer Space!” She said “Oh? Whats that about?” She was serious.
It was "Snakes on a Plane" before that was a thing.
9:22, that's John Vernon, whom played the dean in Animal House.
When you said ”in My sex raft “ I really fucking laughed. Very good job girl. Holy shit, that was funny!!!!
Haha! Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed the video!
@@ReelReviewsWithJen this whole movie is the funniest not even scary unless you are afraid of clowns which I am not😎
Recall Moony's line from early in the movie... "You won't make a dummy out of me"!... Guess he was mistaken.
Fun Fact: Debbie is played by Suzanne Snyder, who also had a small role as one of the sorority house sisters in Night of the Creeps. She's the one who told Cindy that her jerk boyfriend, Brad, was there... after he'd become a slug zombie. lol She was also in Return of the Living Dead Part II.
John Vernon is probably the biggest name actor in this movie. He appeared in a lot of TV shows in the 70's and 80's, National Lampoon's Animal House, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Dirty Harry and Point Blank. What does a Klown need at a drug store? Kondoms.
Fun fact: The Klown masks were repurposed/painted for the movie Ernest Scared Stupid. Oh, and the blonde "nerd" in glasses at the beginning of the movie is none other than comedian Christopher Titus
The actor playing Mooney is a recognizable TV and movie character actor going back to the 1960s. He was in a lot of big hits.
And the hayseed farmer who was the first victim played a hayseed farmer in spaced invaders as well.
Definitely remember him as Dean Wermer.
I bet that actor playing the Security Guard had the time of his life getting pelted with cherry pies.
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe. Be sure to check out the Sci-fi Comedy Film, Galaxy Quest, where a group of actors are mistaken for real space heroes by friendly Aliens whom want to help fight off an intergalactic warlord.😉
The budget for this movie was $2M but looked more than that onscreen bcuz the Chiodos did all the FX themselves. There were no sequels.
Sergeant Curt Mooney was played by John Vernon. He was best known for playing Dean Wormer in Animal House, the Mayor in Dirty Harry and Fletcher in The Outlaw Josey Wales. (Two Clint Eastwood movies and one with John Beluchi)
I coudn't help grinning, when I heard Jen say "I"m usually a pretty big wuss when it comes to horror movies..." with regard to this film. Like "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes," with this one it never occured to me to be the least bit frightened.
I don't think "creating fear" was ever really on the film-makers' minds for this one. It's basically a straight genre parody.
Both killer tomato movies are excellent for what they are. Fun.
@@bryanbrady877 Agreed.
Well now, I don't agree that THIS flick is without its frightening moments. There are bits that I find scarry shocking and disturbing, like the klown drinking blood through the crazy straw, the giant klown, those worm klowns, the mere appearance of the klowns in general, the pie-pelted guy melting, and the klown with the big concealed mallet attempting to draw the little girl. Sure, it's ABSURD but THAT doesn't exclude frightening (not in my book at least).
A horror comedy you should definitely watch is Roman Polanski's _Fearless Vampire Killers_ (1967).
A popular horror comedy is 1948's _Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein._ It was a frequent revival for Saturday afternoon kiddie matinees, and used to be played pretty regularly on TV during Halloween week.
2 great suggestions!
Glad you enjoyed this one Jen. It's such a fun, cult classic that's definitely worth repeated viewings. The clown design is excellent and the acting and dialogue, while not good just fits it perfectly. The little popcorn clowns are so cool and always make me laugh. There was a planned sequel in 2018 but was abandoned after Disney brought 20th century fox who owned the rights. I'm glad about that as it makes this a unique one of a kind.
7:48, using balloon animals as attack dogs! Lol!
this is one my favorite movies of all time ,always makes me laugh
“I’m having trouble coming up with a title for my movie. You see it’s about these killer klowns that are from outer space...”
"She does have unicorns on her sweater, so points for that."
Ahaha! Punintentional! Unicorns...points
Glad you enjoyed the movie.
Other horror comedies to watch are
Shawn of the dead
World's End (and you may as well complete the set with Hot Fuzz, even though it's not a horror 😀).
Zombieland
Ghostbusters 1984 (if you haven't already seen it)
Evil Dead 2
Army of Darkness
Tucker & Dale Vs Evil
Cabin in the woods
Hot Fuzz definitely qualifies as a horror. Not a supernatural horror, sure, but absolutely still a horror.
I first watched this movie in 2012 when I was 6 years old and the clowns scared me but I still loved the movie, I once had a nightmare of a killer klown knocking at my door and broke in my house lol.
The soundtrack was by the classic American punk band The Dickies who were best known for cover versions such as the Banana Splits theme.
15:03, this was originally supposed to be the opening scene to the movie, but was swapped out at the last minute.
Killer Klowns From Outer Space was supposed to have a sequel, 'Killer Klowns From Outer Space in 3-D, which got cancelled, and then SyFy Channel was going to acquire the rights to make a sequel, which also got cancelled. 20th Century Fox was also planning a sequel following its acquisition by Disney, but Disney cancelled the plans for a sequel.
Hope someday their is a sequel 😊
Yess!!! I love this one from my teens "What are you doin with those pies, boyssss?"
The balloon animal sniffer dog gets me every time. Brilliant!
So funny haha
I remember me and my sister watched Killer Clowns from Outer Space on pay per view when pay per view first came out. I think this movie went straight to pay per view.
L.A. punk band 'The Dickies' was the group that played the theme song. I saw them a few times in the '80's.
"Hey, that's the name of the movie!" I'm glad you caught it this time, Jen. You missed it on My Bloody Valentine. lol
YESSSSS!!!!! One of the "best worst" movies ever made. This has been a personal favorite of mine since I first saw it at 15. John Vernon (Officer Mooney) is a legend.
Such a fun movie glad you covered it
It was so fun! Thanks for watching!
This is one of those movies where it you meet someone who enjoyed it you know you have found your tribe.
I love the idea our clowns are an ancient way to tell if a prior invasion
My friend Don is terrified by clowns. Killer clowns even more so. I bought this movie for only $5 at Walmart
You can tell it's the 80s, her shoulder pads protected her when they tried to bite her shoulders.
So to comment on the gag with the Cotton Candy inside of the Jeep -
They used rubber cement which was dyed pink and webbed the whole interior which may Sound like fun HOWEVER they lost their deposit on the car because it ate out the interior of the car- they explain it all in the commentary lol
The Cotton Candy is dissolving the bodies so the Klowns can drink them.
My 3rd favorite movie of all time after Godzilla (1954) and Friday the 13th (1980).
My favorite parts are when we see the klowns trap Debbie in a giant balloon, along with other girls trapped in balloons too' yeah all of them didn't make it when the ship blew up, that's the only sad part there!
But since we didn't get to see any of them it not so bad' as for some of your questions there's no sequel yet but they've been trying, I'm hoping they will have one ready to go in 2023 which will mark the 35th anniversary since the first one.
As to what the budget was for the film' it cost them around give or take about $2 million.
If you wish to find out more they got special features on their dvd' lots of good stuff.
I love the killer clowns song, ive always had a soft spot for this i was in 5th grade when it came out good memories!
Dead Alive (1992) is a great horror/comedy and was directed by Peter Jackson before he did The Lord of the Rings movies.
Love that movie 😊
John Vernon played Mooney. He was a very good character actor who had worked with John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. He was dean Wermer in Animal House which was a very iconic role as the always irritated, aggravated dean. He was the Star power behind this film and gave it some credibility.
@23:34 Oh MY!
18:52, those poor guys. They didn't deserve to go out like that.
Jen: This is scary.
Me: 😐
Also Jen: I don't think insurance covers killer clowns from outer space.
Me: Mine does. 😐
This movie is hilarious, awesome vid! 🤣
Funniest movie ever made 🤣
The Chiodo Brothers also created the "Critters" for the saga of the same name (for what it´s worth, Part 2´s my favourite). Also, as a side note, this week in my podcast we were talking about "To Sir, With Love" with Sidney Poitier, and mentioned the fact that Lulu sings the theme tune, and thus, the title, about 50 times in the movie. Then, out of nowhere, despite my podcast being in Spanish, I exclaimed "Hey, THAT´s the name of the MOOOOVIE!". Cue me having to explain Reel Reviews With Jen. So, highly unlikely, but if you suddenly get an influx of Spanish viewers, that´ll have been me!
I love this movie! It's so creative.
Yea even though this movie is cheesy and silly. It's still creepy and clown nightmare fuel . I freak out whenever I see the Killer Klowns at comic con. They're faces are lifeless and creepy. Lol 🤡
I know I said this a hundred times before but y'know what??
I'm starting to think that all the "serious-minded" nonsense that people want for this movie I liked is for edgelords now.
BTW the blonde cop. Look up the movie Hunk. Only movie I ever have seen him in. He starred in it.
6:00, this was all a matte painting.
Yay! Another movie I love! The Chiodo Brothers also did the Troll effects for "Ernest Scared Stupid". And that song! "Killer Klowns" by The Dickies!
When I saw this for the first time, I wasn’t expecting to like it. But I did. It was actually made better than other movies with a bigger budget. I am glad to see that someone has reacted it to it.
I love this one. I totally love the goofy horror aspect of it. It’s basically the same story as The Blob but with clowns.
This movie is like cotton candy. It's not meant to be nutritious. You just enjoy it while it lasts.
My favorite character in Killer Klowns From Outer Space is Debbie Stone because I think she looks beautiful and is also not evil. My least favorite characters in Killer Klowns From Outer Space are the Killer Klowns and Curtis Mooney because they're evil. My least favorite part in Killer Klowns From Outer Space is the part where the girl who I think looks beautiful dies after thinking the Klowns gave her real pizza because I don't like it when girls who I think look beautiful dies.
I remember seeing this on TV back in the day, when cheese was cheese
The klowns circus tent is actually a spaceship and they are actually aliens disguised as clowns
This is why I never floss. I'm glad I didn't pay money to see this and also that I watched it with you. I do like the small details like putting a cherry on the guy killed with pies and the crazy straw.
Have you never seen "Animal House"? John Vernon (office Mooney) plays the dean of the college, his most iconic role.
In case someone havn't posted it/seen it, this is a pretty rare music video for the theme song: ruclips.net/video/7CzLdg0PpLI/видео.html
They weren't wearing makeup they were actually wearing clown masks. In the scene where the little clown punches the bikers head off you can see the zipper on the back of his neck briefly.
Jen, this movie is great. A LONGTIME personal favorite.
Fun Fact: The Klown puppets were later re-used in the comedy "Ernest Scared Stupid" (1991).
Great, another movie I need to re-watch. Thanks for that :P
The dog is "Pooh-Bear",
as in "Winnie The Pooh".
Another great horror-comedy
is "Tremors" (1990).
The Chiodo brothers went on to do the short lived but brilliant Saturday morning TV show "The Amazing Live Sea Monkeys"
One of my favorite movies from childhood and even now. It’s a B movie, goofy, cheesy, but also very creepy. I love it!
This was my favorite movie as a ten year old kid standpoint I especially love the theme song. Want some cotton candy?
The striped tubes probably weren’t pool noodles - I don’t think those had been invented yet.
There are so many horror movies and horror-comedies with wacky concepts that just don't follow thru, so it’s great to something like Killer Klowns that makes the most of its concept with barrels of creativity. Killer Klowns is also a testament to the power of committing to the bit, in both horror and comedy - taking something absurd and treating it (relatively) seriously can produce some really funny or unnerving stuff. And Klowns is mainly a komedy, but…the klowns are still pretty unsettling. Also I love that they use the ancient aliens theory to explain clowns. 😂
For another weird horror comedy, Terrovision would probably make good reaction fodder.
14:28, that was real Cotton Candy that they used.
Nice!
10:18, yes they are, but Pennywise will give these guys a run for their money.
Comedy horror? Have you seen "Big Trouble in Little China" or "Zombieeland" or "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" or "High Spirits" or "Love St First Bite"?
I'm one of the people who mentioned to watch this movie. I knew it was exactly what you were looking for. Another movie to look for is Return of the Killer Tomatoes! 1988. Its a sequel to Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. (AOTKT) Attack is... well...different. Hokey and really, really very low budget. The sequel is 100% better and has John Astin (Gomez from the Adams Family TV show) and George Clooney, yes that George Clooney. If you want something with a little meat on the bones try Return of the Living Dead. Its gory but also has a great cast. Be warned it is rated R but such a top rated classic and funny!
Return of the living dead great movie the killer tomatoes sequel awful and not as good as the original movie 😌
@@mikesilva3868 Return of the Killer Tomatoes is certainly different. The acting is waaay over the top. Maybe it was me that i did not like the original..when i saw it in the 80s i was more likely expecting something else. Still cant go wrong with John Astin. He was having fun and hamming it up in this movie!
love this one, so much fun
This is a classic !!
I love that you did a reaction to this, not enough people do. I rented this on video weekly for about seven or eight weeks in a row back in the day. Great fun movie. I have it now on DVD and still watch it fairly regular.
I love this film!!😄I first saw it when I was very young
Popcorn guns and cotton candy cocoons . I love this movie 😁
It’s such a fun movie! Thanks for watching!
9:35 you’re not going to make a dummy out of me
19:01 what did you say, Mooney?
i watched the commentary for this in the bonus features on my dvd and the cotton candy covered car i heard was made from some sort of latex and something else and the two mixed together ate the seating in the car, and the car itself was a rental so they spent more money fixing the rental then they did decorationg it in fake contoon candy.. as for your question what this film maybe based on. i do know the icecream guys are alledgedly based on the brothers who created this film somewhat. its been a while since i listened to that comementary but thats what i can remember
Ah classic! The poster used to scare me.
Royal Dano (the old man with the dog) was famous for his role as "Elijah" in MOBY DICK (1956) which also starred Gregory Peck, Orson Welles. and Richard Basehart. His role was so different from this and his role in GHOULIES II (1986) you wouldn't believe it unless you saw it. So here: ruclips.net/video/o5r3g5zhKIM/видео.html to compare. He was one of our great character actors and he passed away on May 15, 1994.
Incidentally, the lines Elijah speaks in the movie are pure Ray Bradbury. Though the character appears in Melville's book (of course he does look up Ahab and Elijah in the Bible) his lines are more gibberish.
Which may explain why Bradbury wanted him to play the lightning rod salesman in the film version of his novel SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES (1983)
And GOT him! ruclips.net/video/MEaGTwJrBKk/видео.html
Crud! And me without any weed for this. Granted I've been without weed for 12 years, but still. Guess I'll watch anyway. :D
26:57, their leader, Klownzilla!
Suzanne is NOT related to Zack Snyder, I recommend "trick or treat" 1986
