As a beginner on a budget I picked my kit from sale items and that means it looks like a skittle bag exploded on me. Not very aestetic, but it works :P. Great video!
A fascinating and expert easy-to- understand guide with no silly gimmicks, annoying music or irritating cutaways - just plain, simple advice and information expertly delivered.
It's amazing you have close to 70,000subs now. When I first saw your Channel you had only about 1200 subscribers! Even though that was a couple of years ago, I'm glad you two keep working on the channel! Your entire lifestyle is so interesting with the visas, nationalities, languages, jobs situationsよ..
Channel started out good and has gotten better over time! Great info and production (very professional), and we really appreciate how much you genuinely enjoy having bicycles in your life -- something the rubs off on your viewers. It’s obvious to me that a lot of work goes into publishing videos like this one.
I think it’s been about 18 months since I wore cycling kit. All my rides have been local. I’ve settled on a 9 mile loop that’s the most car free I can find just to relax and keep fit. I think if I was on a road bike though, I would need to wear full kit even for short rides because the roads are so rough. Hopefully I’ll be able to go exploring again soon. Just need to wait for that second dose.
Thanks for this video! Most of the time I'll have to explain the same things over and over when my friends are considering to start cycling, now I'll just send 'em this instead. Cheers and ride safe!
You forgot to mention bike shoe covers. Another one is sleeveless windbreaker jackets. From watching the last Tour of Flanders classics. All of the riders were wearing windbreaker jackets, arm sleeves, leg warmers and bike shoe covers. Since it was very cold when the race started. On the later parts of the race. The riders would peel away their extra clothing. Once the weather starts to get warmer. It was a fascinating scene to watch riders undressing while they continue to go racing.
Here in Toronto, the weather is so ...undecided... in the spring. So, like a complete noob, one of my panniers is stuffed with clothing options - rain coat, rain pants, super-breathable long-sleeve cotton/pol zip-up, riding hood, track pants, extra socks. In other words, I'm ridiculous. But I'm not riding far, certainly not racing. Just out for a casual 20km ride...that takes about 2 hours somehow. It's just nice to get out on a bike, despite all the clothing and packing weight overkill. Great vid
I've been riding and commuting for years and pretty much always wear spandex. I'm sure I'm not much to look at but it is dang comfortable. LoL I really prefer the full zipper jerseys, there is nothing worse then trying to pull a sweaty jersey over my head.
Very refreshing to watch a great video. I’m new to riding and I’m thinking of shorts vs bibs. Your information is very helpful. Honest review not selling products. Don’t bother short distances with cycling clothes. I’m now riding 1-2 hours. I’m thinking some shorts not moving on my saddle is smart to do. I like buy summer and get some sleeves. Thanks for review.
I think you pretty well cover the bases here, Cruise! While not necessarily a piece of cycling kit per se, I would add that shammy cream has really come in handy, especially for those longer rides on a hot and humid day.
@@TwoWheelCruise I think it comes down to personal preference, and specific circumstances really. A few years back, some cycling friends recommended it to me for a long (340 km over two day) tour during a heat wave. I wouldn't use it all the time, but really came in handy then when there was any concern for chafing / general discomfort down there.
did a 87km ride today with my TWC Santic jersey. Was nice in the beginning but got pretty cold. I think your black jersy would have been better than my red jersey. Keep safe. Love the vdo.
Hi Cruise! A gilet or a wind jacket is a good “upgrade” too. “Great hungarian Plain” in Hungary is very windy at all of the Year, so its very useful 😅 And a cap under helmet for all season, especially in summer. Against sweat and heat srtoke.
I have been very happy with the shorts and jerseys from Santic. Finding the right size for a...ahem...not-so-slim-and-trim American is a challenge sometimes, but still...good stuff. : )
Probably not in where you live, we have frequent typhoon hit in summer. Heavy rain in a thunderstorm ruins everything. Not many clothing choice gives dry and comfortable ride. On top of that glasses doesn't work anymore, the rain leaks from helmet ventilation holes, worse still the water washes out the salt absorbed in helmet lining and finally get into eyes. The irritation is a great distraction and have to stop riding when it gets real serious. I am trying out helmet rain cover this season.
as a age 60 plus, I found the newer saddles like sitting on a razor blade, I did what to me was unthinkable, and bought the bib shorts, long version, as my old legs look crap the now, but bought some jokey type tops, ie body by beer, and I only cycle for beer, still feel conscious on a coffee break, but hey ho, I can now do 50 plus miles with no pain
Santic does MTB shorts which comes with the padding so that's a good choice for someone who is not used to wearing spandex. Also the MTB shorts looks like just normal shorts so pretty discreet if that matters to the rider. I got them to use when I ride my XC.
How often do you wash your cycling kits? I tend to bike every day to and from work which takes about 30-45 min. I do not want to wash them that often in case they tend to whether down the spandex material, but I also want to make sure that they are still clean prior to using them.
If I may add some tips it's a all about the color for visibility and safety. It's important to be seen that other people aware of you. Sometime I wonder why people wearing dark clothing in the day where the sun ray absorbed by the color and cause it heat, which in my opinion white color is best for riding in the day, but it seems they wear dark color for visibility safety reason.
I don't get what difference cycling socks are going to have to say, running socks? I wore Adidas running socks to all my group rides and they indeed do look at me different.
Another great informative video as usual. You should make a Japan specific video for guys like us :D Some of your links don't go to a product...why is that? So what made you go with Santic and not other brands at first? I'm a 45 year old noob to all this...hope my body can handle it. I went for a 20KM bike on my new e-bike with all basic clothing and my body is still sore 3 days later haha
Is it ok to walk inside a convenience store or coffeeshop wearing your cycling shorts? And should I cover (conceal) my "front" (the "bulge") with my top (shirt/jersey)?? Thanks!
any alternative for the shorts ? i'm muslim, and cant really wear shorts or cycling clothes, i need like baggy t shirt and a regular yoga pants. would that work ?
Hi! Is it better to get cycling shorts or a padded saddle? I've been biking locally for just around 30 min a day and my road bike saddle is so stiff and uncomfortable. Which do you recommend?
One thing I think you missed- for beginners- is how bike clothing is made so the seams don't chafe. A jersey has no seams on the top of the shoulder unlike a T-shirt, shorts have a single separate seat panel instead of a bunch of seams.
🔥🇵🇷 Hi guys! I'm curious, you are an American citizen living in Japan. Your wife is from Vietnam. Why is a flag from my lovely Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 in your house? About the Jersey's, is there a licra but more loose fit to the body? And maybe longer fit. Thanks. 🤜🏻🤛🏻
The flag was a present from a former cycling teammate from PR. I went to train there one winter and loved it. You can get some larger club fit style cycling clothes.
I'm a slave to cycling fashion, Ozzie style, pair of black trackky's, in Summer, long sleeved breathable T shirt, winter, whatever keeps one warm, the only time I'd wear that lycra rubbish, is when I'd be cycling off to meet Her Majesty the Queen.
Wached it 5 minutes and turned it off. The whole time you were repeating the same thing, okay we get it. If we ride 15 minutes no gear, if we ride more than 15 minutes we need gear... You don't have to repeat that like a hundred times for your video to be long...

thank you for the great video .. greetings from London
One other disadvantage of the bib-less shorts, when you have a bit of a belly, is it will slide down regularly

Why do have typhoon season near the end of Summer and rainy season before Summer which is pretty nasty. At least it's warm.

Cycling shorts. It will take some time, but eventually it will become much more comfortable. Larger saddles make things worse with regular riding.
