Cracking video and one I’ve been waiting for. I’d agree with pretty much everything you’ve said about the premium brands. I definitely wouldn’t ride around with PNS on my back, everyone just laughs. Brands that offer repairs are really important for me now, and even more so if they use recycled materials.
I like velocio and Maap! Thank you for making the video on your experience on cycling clothing. As I was always interested in hearing about rapha and pns
Agree on importance of winter kit. Castelli winter jackets are fabulous, especially those made from Goretex infinium fabric (e.g. Perfetto ROS). Also highly recommend Sportful who is sister brand of Castelli same quality but often slightly cheaper and more understated.
I have quite a few brands castelli, dhb, Rapha. Gore is my favourite their long distance bib shorts are amazing material feels great and prefer the fit of their jerseys too. Plus not mental expensive
@@zedddddful nice will check out c7's. I have long distance bibs x2, tights of some kind think windproof panel ones, torrent Jersey, their aero chase Jersey, long sleeve thermal jersey, waterproof jacket, x2 hats. Only thing that annoys me is poor sock range to complete the outfit. All cycling specific ones aren't branded that I can see.
I have been riding with gore gear since i started road cycling seriously and its not flashy but it's built to work and last longer than anything else on the market.
Great review, I appreciate the time you put in on this! This type of content is very valuable to the average cyclist! A couple of years ago I switched from primarily Pearl Izumi to LeCol for my bib shorts. I initially tried LeCol due to the Strava discount and found that I liked them. Their different models are indeed quite different. I have found that the Sport model is good for a shorter ride (90 minutes or so), I prefer the Pro or the Pro Aero models for longer rides. I have 1 pair of the Haute Route and I find that I don't like those as well. I believe that LeCol are in the category of generally over-priced, however, like with other brands, if you watch for the various sales and discounts you can get some good deals. If you are patient and a good shopper you can get things at about a 50% discount and at that price, I think that are a good value. I generally do not buy many higher-end jerseys. Unlike most road cyclists, I prefer sleeveless jerseys in the warm weather and have picked-up a collection over the years very cheaply. They are not aero, but for performance I have a couple of performance kits I turn to. Residents of the US should investigate The Black Bibs.....very solid quality and great prices.
Attacus rocks! Well made, durable and comfortable. they aren't my preferred bib but it is a personal fit reason, not a quality or performance reason, the ones I prefer fit me better... In terms of performance, I have ridden multiple endurance (400km plus) rides in the Attacus bibs and they are great. Even crash tested them (not recommended) my collarbone broke, the Attacus bibs did not! Attacus give good product support as well. Good work Jimmy and Emily! I have to put in a plug for Redwhite bibs... great product, really well priced and awesome support from the company as well. PNS response... that is bogus... they need to get their quality sorted out. Not acceptable for the money they are asking.
The best bibshorts I’ve had was about 12 years ago from decathlon but big but that was before Attacus, then I heard of them and my life changed, I’ve got all there kit now starting with the foundation bibshorts which are great but using them for the last 8 years or as long as they have been about they are falling apart now in places, I’ve got a pair of the onyx black evo shorts but I’m having trouble with them in places just can’t get as comfortable in them but can’t do anything about it now I’ve had them to long to send back! so I just try and carry on with them once there back in fall making kit might try and get the foundation ones again love the top fit me really well.
The Attacus customer service is the best I have ever experienced, and that’s not to say there’s been massive issues it’s just the times I’ve needed it the communication and desire to resolve any issues is something I’d not experienced before 👌🏼
Thanks Dave...I wear Le Col in winter , and Assos summer kit in the heat. Both expensive.....but, like you said and I think .It's worth paying a bit more for quality and comfort , never mind the look !
PEdALED do good kit, use good quality Elastic Interface pads and the material in their odyssey range is pretty hard wearing. My other favourite are Albion who describe themselves as making kit for 'riding in British weather' 😀
Good scan of the kit offerings 👍👍 Personally I’ve used too many expensive kits that lasted less than a season. Not spending my money on those again. Rather the “expensive” Spexcel bibs for 40,= with a good, simple non-gel chamois. Couple that with a Spexcel or Darevie jersey and you’re good to go for 80,=
I buy everything second hand. I size everything up for a little bit of space. So a 250 pound jacket becomes 55 to 60 pounds. I do look a little bit got the gear no idea but you pay for the comfort. I love my Rapha Pro Team insulated jacket so soft, stretchy and comfortable and cost me 55 quid on eBay.
Still cycling in primark leggings , climbed all the passes in Lake District , c2c in 1 day, 100 mile a week every week for 5 year . Don’t need expensive kits . Look good tho
My favourite stuff is Stolen Goat, but I've not tried any of the mega expensive stuff - they cost as much as my bike! It would be really interesting to see your opinion of some properly inexpensive stuff like the Decathlon shorts. I've got a couple of pairs, and one I really like, and one is not so good!
Nice one Dave, that was interesting. The price of the Gucci level gear is crazy though! I’m not enough of a brand snob to consider spending that kinda cash on kit.
I'm starting to get so many different brands, that it's hard to keep up. Rapha, assos, specialized, castelli, lecol, maap, siroko, ale, Adidas, suarez, giordana, Oakley, pearl izumi, ekoi, dhb, Louis garneau, la passione, pedal mafia, pactimo, dna, black sheep. This is just off the top of my head
@@fareni7778 haven't had any experience with those brands yet, but will look into it. Couple new ones added lately, is pas normal studios, and universal colours.
I bought Attacus because I saw you wearing it. After 6 rides the pockets became unstitched. I sent them pictures and they replayed this is wear and tear. Not there problem.
I find it quite hard to buy new kit if you're not there to try it on first... ie I hardly ever buy something full price, only in the sales. I love my old CHPT3 kit but the chamois is starting to go a bit, as is the elastic at the bottom of my bibs... I'd love to buy more from Albion, but their jerseys are apparently RACE fit but I think it's good to buy from small, british companies... on the other hand, I'd love to try MAAP out but tbh, I'd only pump for stuff like that in the sales! Good to get your perspective on the above as you're a man of experience ;)
I actually love the PNS and Rapha stuff! BUT I will only buy items if they are on sale. I’ve never bought a regular priced PNS or Rapha item. Never paid more than $150 for jersey or bib
dude I just ride in normal Nike or Adidas gym clothes and my shorts are mostly hybrid swim/lifestyle shorts. I don't want to walk into a store or restaurant during a ride looking like an astronaut. Plus I can use my clothes for other things.
Cycling kit is ridiculously priced full stop. It does not matter which brand, it is all just different levels of nonsense. Other than some DHB bibs I'm not sure I've bought anything not in a sale of some sort.
Still you deserve to live a comfy life and this is part of it get home and enjoy the other part of our life is awesome .. have a good one mate take care
Attacus... Jimi is politically triggered. You'll see some deranged phrases/symbolism in the kit he makes, unfortunately. I won't buy because of this... I just want to ride, I don't want to be blasted with your politics.
This is a good example of someone reading into something…jimi is bloody lovely. It’s not a bad thing he gives a shit about the world. Also. Jimi and Emily sold atticus a while ago now.
@@DaveNoakes It's great if a person wants to be good and do good, we should all be so. But being triggered and narrowed and, subsequently, hateful of those with different perspectives... that is not good.
MAAP is hands down my favourite kit on the market.

Bought some of their running tights and pop them over my bib shorts perfect in winter and the tights were 25 quid second hand.
I tend to favour UK brands like Lusso and Stolen Goat. Both provide good customer service, quality kit, and all at a fair price.
Endura for quality and price, all disciplines. Never had a problem
Endura is really good! Also DHB
I use Rapha and Dhb… Altura shorts. Out of them all, Rapha are by far the best for me, comfortable, and wash up so well. Each to their own however.

I use Castelli, Endura, Stolen Goat, Le-Col, Rapha and Chapeau all excellent I thoroughly recommended.. :) Pete

appreciate the insights, just got into Biehler and SYN, and have been happy this winter in the kit!
