"Growing up wealthy, never being corrected for boorish or brainless behavior, never being forced to do more than the bare minimum, resulted in Trump only learning eighty or so words in his entire life. And this is precisely why he speaks and behaves like an entitled simpleton." Truth bomb like that would immediately call into question all of her research hours and professional credentials. But she's NOT impartial. She's offered an argument that reduces to "here are a number of speech motifs and in what sense each of them is an asset."
She neglects to mention ANY sense in which they might be a deficit. That's not intellectually honest, much less impartial, because the list of deficits is long and egregious.
She's also factually misleading when she presents Trump's simplistic speech as something that we can all find comfortingly familiar, something we find among friends and family.
No, we're not all that stupid, and we don't all have friends and family members who are that stupid. She's at best indulging a Hasty Generalization fallacy here which, with her academic qualifications, she must know is improper.

They save nothing. Regardless of who is in, we just get more totalitarian laws, more brutal police to enforce those laws, and we get poorer. Labor is in power federally atm. We have a housing shortage, homless people on the increase like never before. But what does labour do? Flood the country with immigrants, driving the cost of housing up even more. Labor is supposed to be the friend of the working class and poor people. They aren't. They just say it. My dad is an old man, and he still clings to this fantasy. Eloquence is overrated in politics. Just because you're gifted vocally doesn't mean you can accomplish anything. Their words may be impressive, but not their deeds.
      ruclips.net/video/ppH9cjdCJxk/видео.html
It's unfortunate how people are easily enthralled by the eloquent rhetoric of the likes of Obama and most other politicians, who promise to do things, but aren't effective at doing them. With Trump, he actually means what he says, and his vocal style is no hindrance to getting things done.
People are reaching, looking to find faults inTrump, in any way. It is now reported that Journalists are now beginning to notice that he is more accessible than Obama ever was. This is because Trump is more open, un-scripted, and less inclined to cautiously choose deceptive rhetoric as politicians normally do. People don't appreciate how rare and valuable this is. Just imagine how inaccessible, and secretive Hillary was going to be.
Trump settled on speech that's quick, and to the point, which conveys his message clearly to people involved with business decision making. Have you ever studied Elon Musk's speech patterns? They're also very unusual, but both of these leader's speech limitations weren't detrimental to their success.
Speaking eloquently is overrated, and it's no indication of someone's ability of achieving great accomplishments. The linguistic professor who is featured in this video, with all her vocal grace, hasn't shown she is capable of accomplishing anything grand.
Trump on the other hand with his less than perfect speech, has billions of dollars invested, owns multiple highly valued properties, founded 500+ enterprises that are still running, his TV show was a highly rated - multi-season - award winning, success, he's a bona fide Hollywood Star celebrity, and now he is the President of the United States of America. Donald J. Trump is the most qualified leader for this position. He's a statesman who will lead this nation to an unprecedented stunning glory.

I do know people who speak like what Jennifer Scalfani is describing. Typically, they are uneducated, narrow-minded, arrogant, defensive, lack compassion and if you ask them a compounded or multi-faceted question you lose them in the sauce of the query. This is a result of not having the skills of listening with the intent to understanding but rather the intent to respond with the first thought that comes into mind which starts his tangent and rambling off-topic. This skill of listening is an important tool for any successful entrepreneur and even a billionaire and yes our president. Most are masters of the Socratic communication method that is used in the art of making or closing the deal. They are rarely quick to respond especially if the conversation, interview, or negotiation is not headed in a favorable direction. If you've watched Trump during press briefings over the last 3 months he gets defensive and diverts blame opposed to a long pause, absorbs the question, speaks slowly, and specifically to the point.

"He DOESN'T speak like everyone else."
He just might not talk like people that you surround yourself with.
Get outside the city & suburbs, and you'll find he does speak like others.
I've gotten my fair share of people barking at me for talking "over" people with "my fansy-smansy big english words, trying to sound important and smart."
I've gotten this countless times, including from members of my own family.
There's a LARGE part of the population that don't trust a person in a suit, talks perfect English, or speaks lots of big English words structured in complex sentence structure.
Earlier, I said "city & suburbs" because if you look at each state, to see the counties that have voted red/blue for the past few elections, you'll find a strong consistency where deep rural are stronger republican and larger cities are stronger democrat.
His speech is relatable to close to 1/2 the US voting population.
      Not 20%, Not 30%, but high 40%. That's big.

Funny that you should say that. My best friends are a married couple (one more sympathetic to the GOP, and one more sympathetic to Dems) who were clinical nurses in the Michigan prison system and administrators for more than 30 years, and BOTH tell me they see signs of Alzheimer's, or perhaps senile dementia, or perhaps sociopathy, perhaps a closed head injury, drug addiction, or non-physical stroke. But what even the Republican can't see after a lifetime of dealing with insane criminals is a sane, trustworthy person.

That could be true, and with Trump it almost certainly is. But the she is not asking if what he is saying is true or false but showing how this linguist 'marker' DOES something, now it acts and effects the audience. There's no truth value judgement in her analysis on Trump's substance, and I think like most educated people and a good amount of uneducated ones, she can see straight through Trump's substance and see it is false and he mostly lies. But that's not her point. Propaganda effects people on HOW it is does, sometimes more than on WHAT is says. Most all of us who are not Trump supporters can agree clearly that Hitler was evil, but some us who hate Hitler can see that how he used propaganda was very effective. I think that's what she is doing is analyzing his style of propaganda, the 'grammar' of his style, and why it was effective enough to win the election, which it did. (Along with of course blind GOP loyalty and hatred of Hillary he generated.)

This woman needs to improve her critical thinking skills. After supposedly spending two years analyzing the speaking style of Donald Trump, and the only thing she comes away with are functional explanations, she is choosing to ignore the many problematic characteristics he exhibits while speaking. These include lies, distortions, an obsession with self, an ignorance of the world and the systems within it, a lack of emotional control, and the inability to empathize with others. What I don't understand is why so many people fail to acknowledge that such characteristics should disqualify him to lead the most powerful country on Earth and shape the history of humanity. It's dangerously absurd

I'm sorry to say that I did not find this very enlightening. I would have expected at least a passing reference to how Trump's crippled speech implies a weak mind, and very possibly the presence of dementia. It was especially surprising not to hear anything about Trump's repetitive use of simple words, like "very" and "great." It seems unlikely that this, and his truncated vocabulary in general, is a choice, or strategy, on his part (as he has not in recent years indicated that he can speak in any other way), but is more likely simply an intellectual limitation. Finally, I agree with FANKANable: it is not at all my experience that Trump "speaks like everybody else." I have frequent contact with people who do not have a college degree, whom many would describe as being in the working class. About 95% of them speak more clearly and effectively, and make more sense, than Trump does. And, putting linguistics aside for the moment, I might just add that they are also not compulsive liars.

Insightful. I now better understand Trump's linguistic appeal - the "poorly educated" whom he loves so dearly, feel that he's talking to them, not down to them, makes them feel that he's one of them, only richer and more successful. Also, the repetitions of certain words and phrases make a rhythm in his speech that can be hypnotic - meaning is obscured, but that doesn't matter - there's no reason to question his logic or his information, it's the flow that counts. Reminds me of the rallies described in Sebastian Haffner's memoir "Defying Hitler." I believe he really is psychotic, and that psychosis gives him the audacity to break the rules in a way that thrills his followers.

if a person is constantly telling you to believe him and trust him, and that he has all of the answers then that is a red flag in and of itself which should cause people to be very skeptical of anything he says because its a sub-conscience attempt to compensate for the lies that are not believable, and all of his statements and lies are fantastical, delusional and unrealistic because nobody that has the capacity to think critically will believe him or anything he says because he is a pathological liar.

Funny thing is if he kept the money that his father gave him in a safe investment he would have been wealtier, as it is, he has lost money from his bad real estate deals and thus had to ask Deutsche Bank for hundreds of millions, with Russian guarantees, as US banks won't lend that welcher money.
