I do know people who speak like what Jennifer Scalfani is describing. Typically, they are uneducated, narrow-minded, arrogant, defensive, lack compassion and if you ask them a compounded or multi-faceted question you lose them in the sauce of the query. This is a result of not having the skills of listening with the intent to understanding but rather the intent to respond with the first thought that comes into mind which starts his tangent and rambling off-topic. This skill of listening is an important tool for any successful entrepreneur and even a billionaire and yes our president. Most are masters of the Socratic communication method that is used in the art of making or closing the deal. They are rarely quick to respond especially if the conversation, interview, or negotiation is not headed in a favorable direction. If you've watched Trump during press briefings over the last 3 months he gets defensive and diverts blame opposed to a long pause, absorbs the question, speaks slowly, and specifically to the point.

Eloquence is overrated in politics. Just because you're gifted vocally doesn't mean you can accomplish anything. Their words may be impressive, but not their deeds.
      ruclips.net/video/ppH9cjdCJxk/видео.html
It's unfortunate how people are easily enthralled by the eloquent rhetoric of the likes of Obama and most other politicians, who promise to do things, but aren't effective at doing them. With Trump, he actually means what he says, and his vocal style is no hindrance to getting things done.
People are reaching, looking to find faults inTrump, in any way. It is now reported that Journalists are now beginning to notice that he is more accessible than Obama ever was. This is because Trump is more open, un-scripted, and less inclined to cautiously choose deceptive rhetoric as politicians normally do. People don't appreciate how rare and valuable this is. Just imagine how inaccessible, and secretive Hillary was going to be.
Trump settled on speech that's quick, and to the point, which conveys his message clearly to people involved with business decision making. Have you ever studied Elon Musk's speech patterns? They're also very unusual, but both of these leader's speech limitations weren't detrimental to their success.
Speaking eloquently is overrated, and it's no indication of someone's ability of achieving great accomplishments. The linguistic professor who is featured in this video, with all her vocal grace, hasn't shown she is capable of accomplishing anything grand.
Trump on the other hand with his less than perfect speech, has billions of dollars invested, owns multiple highly valued properties, founded 500+ enterprises that are still running, his TV show was a highly rated - multi-season - award winning, success, he's a bona fide Hollywood Star celebrity, and now he is the President of the United States of America. Donald J. Trump is the most qualified leader for this position. He's a statesman who will lead this nation to an unprecedented stunning glory.

But what even the Republican can't see after a lifetime of dealing with insane criminals is a sane, trustworthy person.

That could be true, and with Trump it almost certainly is. But the she is not asking if what he is saying is true or false but showing how this linguist 'marker' DOES something, now it acts and effects the audience. There's no truth value judgement in her analysis on Trump's substance, and I think like most educated people and a good amount of uneducated ones, she can see straight through Trump's substance and see it is false and he mostly lies. But that's not her point. Propaganda effects people on HOW it is does, sometimes more than on WHAT is says. Most all of us who are not Trump supporters can agree clearly that Hitler was evil, but some us who hate Hitler can see that how he used propaganda was very effective. I think that's what she is doing is analyzing his style of propaganda, the 'grammar' of his style, and why it was effective enough to win the election, which it did. (Along with of course blind GOP loyalty and hatred of Hillary he generated.)

He just might not talk like people that you surround yourself with.
Get outside the city & suburbs, and you'll find he does speak like others.
I've gotten my fair share of people barking at me for talking "over" people with "my fansy-smansy big english words, trying to sound important and smart."
I've gotten this countless times, including from members of my own family.
There's a LARGE part of the population that don't trust a person in a suit, talks perfect English, or speaks lots of big English words structured in complex sentence structure.
Earlier, I said "city & suburbs" because if you look at each state, to see the counties that have voted red/blue for the past few elections, you'll find a strong consistency where deep rural are stronger republican and larger cities are stronger democrat.
His speech is relatable to close to 1/2 the US voting population.
      Not 20%, Not 30%, but high 40%. That's big.

Darryl is that like how you libtards said The Donald would NOT win
the election, because you KNEW it was rigged for Hillary by somewhere between 5 and 25 million votes LOL? Yeah right dumbass try again!!!
So in his taped conversation with Billy Bush, he said when you're famous THEY meaning GROUPIES will LET you do anything.
Then he told Bush you can grab them by the pussy. Trump Never said that HE personally did that silly. He said that as an EXAMPLE of what GROUPIES will let someone FAMOUS do to them that's all DUH DUH DUH. It's like you looney lefts have NEVER taken an English composition class at once in your life.
A rapist no that's NOT The Donald that is Bill Clinton and Bills rape victims are all over twitter and have hounded him for decades. While the bitches that accused Trump 30 days BEFORE the election hasn't said a thing since he won because they were paid by that con woman Gloria Aldridge. The PURPOSE of these BS accusations was to make Trump lose the election but it didn't work. And then you wish for impeachment but Trump CAN'T get impeached because he HASN'T broken the law or done ANYTHING to warrant such a thing dumbass.
Trump can't get impeached just because he's a nationalist and the elite are globalists scum that wants the middle classes money. So get this through your sheep head Trump will be POTUS for the next 7 1/2 years.
You libtards LOST get over it.

Dale Carnegie said that people who say “believe me” or “honestly” tend to indicate that every other time they speak they are lying. She is the first “expert” that seems to think he is normal. I’m no expert, but I don’t talk like this, or nor do any of the people I know. We did have a family friend that started acting like this, including saying “believe me”, jumping from topic to topic and repeating phrases when they talk. He was in the mid stages of dementia.

+Rosaceae Drumpf is a hack and he knows it. He's memory and mind are severly depleted and his greed for money is insatiable. Funny thing is if he kept the money that his father gave him in a safe investment he would have been wealtier, as it is, he has lost money from his bad real estate deals and thus had to ask Deutsche Bank for hundreds of millions, with Russian guarantees, as US banks won't lend that welcher money. He owned casinos that went bankrupt, lol. What a loser, in business and in life hahahahahaha. In fact, in my entire life of 70 yrs. , I've never encountered a serious, professional person, who intentionally (?) speaks like an idiot. These are linguistic "props" and cues used to score points with people who , for some reason, have a disdain for cogent, thoughtful, precise, respectful, informed articulation. It sets the bar so low & makes me wonder how political discourse got so "dumbed down."

      - The best speaking
      - The greatest speaking you have ever heard. Tremendous speaking.
      - You've never heard speaking like this, believe me
      - Because I know speaking, I am good at that
      - Nobody knew speaking could be this complicated, people don't know that
      - I like winners not losers, I like speakers who can speak
      - And there are no truly bad speakers, just speech on many sides, many sides
      - And not all speakers are bad, some I assume are good speakers
      - I've spoken to people who know speakers, and they agree with me
      - We're working on the perfect speech, we're working on it
      - I have a plan for a great speech, which I'll share with you later
      - Speeches are easy, you just grab them by the ######
      - And for those who don't agree with me, you're FAKE speakers!

She's doing her job as a linguist in analyzing speech patterns, social register and language usage without being biased and colored by her judgement of him. I found her remarks very insightful. A linguist is a language scientist. However, her job as a dispassionate scientist is very dangerous when talking about Trump. People are so emotionally and socially embedded in language that they fail to recognize its construction and usage, how it effects people. I would bet any money and feel 100% certain that as a human, not as a scientist, she voted against him and for Hillary. I believe she is the type of intellectual college professor despised by the Republican base of Trump.
But what she's doing here by analyzing and describing Trump's speech patterns is not being prescriptive in telling us if the content of the speech is good or bad, racist or noninflammatory. In fact, if you watch again, she has no comments on the political substance of what Trump says at all, on the way he says and how he is communicating. She does an insightful job as it reveals why Trump connects to his 'everyman' uneducated base so strongly, because he talks like them. HOW he is connecting is as stronger than WHAT he is saying to them. It's effective. And yes, I think Trump is a dangerous sociopath; but that's not her point.

He might not speak like the everyday people that you're in contact with, as you likely live in a more educated area. He speaks similarly to the common people in a rural area with a poor education system, which happen to be one of his core demographics. Even if he doesn't speak like the typical everyday adult, his tone is far more casual and laid back than the average politician, and sounds more like someone just joking around with their buddies than leading a political rally.

Where's the discussion on incorrect and vague word choice, use of fragments instead of sentences, no logic, distracting hand gestures that have nothing to do with what's being said, etc? Trump is a consummate New Yorker ~ and he Speaks like one. Born and raised in Queens (New York City), he has been in construction since he was 21 years old. A Very Successful Guy - Yet a very Down-To-Earth Man. And, I might add, he is Very Much a Family Man - which doesn't contradict what this Linguist is saying. He's a New Yorker - it seems people need to be reminded of that, which explains the way he speaks...And Thinks. Please Forgive Him Everybody ~ He's A New Yorker! (I moved to New York City from the Midwest 47 years ago and Fell In Love with New Yorkers. They are a breed unto themselves. Trump Cracks Me Up because he's the successful billionnaire ~ and he worked his Butt Off to get to where he is in business these days - and has remained a Regular Guy ~ you can say, a Construction Worker Who Did Good. He has no need to impress anybody and he sounds just like every other New Yorker on the street. Would you cut him some slack?
