Former FBI Agent Breaks Down Political Body Language | WIRED

- Former FBI agent and body language expert Joe Navarro breaks down the intentional (and unintentional) non-verbals displayed by politicians. Why do some politicians point with their entire hand? What does it mean when politicians wave to a large crowd? How do Donald Trump and Joe Biden's non-verbals compare to each other?

I'd love to ask him about Autism. One, there have been police involved shootings and autistic people because autistic people engage with their environment differently than neurotypical individuals. Also, because some autistic people can't make eye contact, a police officer may think they are guilty. I'd love to know how the FBI agent and non-verbal expert would suggest we improve interactions between autistic individuals and police. And other than "don't get into situations where the police are needed." Life isn't that easy. A person doesn't stop being autistic the day they turn 18. Of course people shouldn't get themselves in bad situations. But as an autistic person, I care about this type of stuff.

Joe I see you have 3 books on the market. I also noticed you are talking sometimes but not looking at the camera. All in all this is very informative. thanks for posting.
It’s so interesting how you don’t consciously think “he’s pursing his lips, therefore he is unhappy.” Your brain just makes that leap for you and in a split second you get a pretty good idea of how someone’s feeling or reacting. Great video!
As someone with social anxiety, I notice that I often purse my lips after I've spoken because I fear people's reactions to whatever I said. Especially when I feel I didn't do a good job of speaking... Probably pursed lips could indicate multiple things?
Our words alone are often not good enough for truly fast communication between us. Nonverbals supplement the inadequacies of verbal communication.
You spoke volumes when you said, they are actors. I tend to judge them on what they do after they say they are gonna do something. I’ve never judged politicians on their gestures.
The only way I judge a politician is by their past actions.
These gestures don't necessarily mean honesty or dishonesty - just comfortability. You may be uncomfortable with a question, but still give an honest answer, and vice versa...
Talking about non-verbal, anyone noticed how you unconsciously see his name (Joe Navarro) throughout the video? (Because of the books behind him) He definitely knows what he's doing. Clever.

One important thing is that non verbal communication is a lot dependent on cultural aspects. One example for a book called something like "Gestures for a Globalized World" is what happened to Edward Deming in his first class of statistical analysis of product quality in Japan: Deming taught in school sports courts and in his first class he had a hard time because the Japanese would lean back and slightly close their eyes - in the west, a posture that communicates lack of interest. Later he found out that, in Japan, that gesture means strong interest and focus. So, not all gestures have universal meaning.

I never look at people long enough so I know nothing about body language, but I was always listening. Through listening I learned to figure out what a person is feeling through the slight tone of their voice. I can't explain what they're feeling I just feel that feeling after hearing the tone in their voice. It's really upsetting when you've been listening and not talking and you gain this ability. You eventually find out that your friends don't actually care about you. They just need and want you to listen to them when no one else will. It's a constant torture when you hear the way people talk about other people. It's all been heart breaking. I have no hope in people's ability to care. It's because they did not care that people got so bad after all. Any longer I might go mad if I am not already.
Masquerade Heart >>>>>. Trump cares a lot about the future of Americans.... not in this chaos for the money or salary, which he donates. Patriots care about the future of our country. WHO OR WHAT DO YOU CARE ABOUT?
If you are truly busy caring about others (not just listening to sob stories- actually physically helping others cope with a dire problem, or helping a slow student to get good grades by tutoring him) you wouldn’t even notice that others don’t truly appreciate your fine qualities and/or achievements, etc. Stay busy, bc the Lord commands us to be our ‘brother’s keeper’, and then HE WILL BE THE ONE TO SEE YOU THRU YOUR HARD TIMES WHEN THE SUPPOSED FRIENDS HAVE TAKEN A POWDER AND FLOWN THE COOP. Been there, felt that, and while the thought can be depressing, I would much rather be the person doling out helps, than the person asking for an audience or a handout. This year my ‘best friend forever’ BFF, let me know we would be parting ways because I told her what I thought of Bill Gates and his vaccines, COVID, etc. She works for big pharma and got her panties in a bunch! Oh well, typical hypocritical move, cutting off your nose to spite your face. No doubt when she needs something badly enough, like prayer for husband’s throat again, she’ll come running back for support, just like a kid. But she is 63 yrs old and a grandmother, so no longer a kid. Also, hypocrites lie a lot, have you noticed? Must be almost synonymous....
