A lot emotions are left out to make the movie more serious. I loved that scene too, they really grew up in a forked up world, but they find humor in it. Did the system break them, or did it make them stronger or at least enough to laugh at the situation.
They leave a lot of the more humorous moments out of the movies. For instance in Catching Fire they left out when Finnick and Katniss scare Peeta with their damaged zombie skin from the medicine after the acid rain. My mom said she was so disappointed that it wasn’t in the movie. I was like SAME.

My dad skipped the sentence where Finnick died when he read the book to me. I was like 10 when he read them to me but he said I wasn't allowed to read them alone so... thanks for that dad I had a nice blissful understanding of Finnick and Annie living together forever for a good three years lol
I love the ending to these books. "I only had kids bc Peeta wanted them. The war marked me forever, and my children will grow up playing on a graveyard." I was like, holy ish dude that's some rill stuff
vampsdale because of the torture he went through, they injected him with tracker hacker venom (poison) while showing him footage of katniss. Essentially psychologically tricking him into associating her with pain so they could convince him to kill her. That's why he strangles her at the end of part 1. In part 2, prim comes up with the idea to infect him with endorphins (I think it was her in the book?) to associate katniss with pleasure. However, years later he still suffers PTSD and still has nightmares and katniss mentions seeing him gripping the back of chairs tightly kind of alluding to him still struggling internally with all of this. So no he isn't abusive (and it's not BDSM haha), and he doesn't actually strangle her again. But he definitely has internal struggles where he wants to kill her.

These movies were actually a really good adaptation from the books. Of course things were changed but i feel like the themes really stayed strong in all of them
yeah!! for me the only thing that I hated about the movies was the over emphasizing of the triangle between peeta, gale, and katniss. reading the books it never was a huge thing (for me anyways lol) but i felt it was a little twilight-esque when it came to the movies

For death scenes, it isnt usually the death that gets me, it's the reactions of the people around to the deaths. Like katniss to the cat or when *harry potter spoilers, if that's neccessary... * Amos diggory is screaming "that's my booyyyy" while Harry's crying and holding saying "I had to bring his body back", or the silent screaming of harry while he tries to get to sirius and lupins holding him back. I only bring up hp deaths cuz that's all I can think of right now 😅 but it's those moments where a person is breaking down because they realize theyll never see that person smile or hear them laugh again, when they're processing that they're really gone, that hit me the hardest. Even if I dont particularly care about the dead character....

I remember not liking the ending with the kids after I finished the series cause I thought katniss *didn't need a boy to live her life* but now I'm realizing peeta's the last constant she has after everything she's been through. TWO hunger games AND the revolution AND seeing so many of her loved ones and people she trusted die? and going through that as a TEENAGER? like, fuck, I can't imagine her mental state after all that. peeta's literally the only source of comfort she's had through all of this, and now I can see why she stayed with him. also finnick was probably my favorite character in the book/movie and having to re-live his death again made me sad

And her mother (who'd already checked out emotionally before, leaving Katniss the provider and carer of the family) left for another district and didn't seem to want her daughter around after Prim's death. Haymitch was around but he was a drunk with his own issues and he and Katniss butted heads. Peeta is literally the only stable constant in her life from before, during and after the games as well as the revolution. And if we have to go there, I honestly thought Peeta was a better match for her all round after the first games - maybe not before but definitely after.
I absolutely love this whole trilogy. This is so much more than the typical ya novels. It was sad yet so satisfying. Although Prim died who was the primary motivation of Katniss to sacrifice herself, I loved how Prim herself grown so much. She became another Katniss and kept helping people. This is the best aspect of the book and movie. The book is more depressing but I am okay with the movie being little light. The time katniss and peeta sat by the door watching rain is my absolute favorite scene.

To be fair, I think the reason he died so abruptly in the book was to show that war doesn't give you time to process your emotions or mourn the dead. You just have to suck it up and keep fighting so their death isn't in vain.

Annabelle Lewis his back breaking low key broke me like when I was reading the book I brushed over the fact he died since I didn’t even process it since it was like 4 am. Watching the movie tho made me lose my shit and I did sorta break like I had to pause it for 5 minutes while just looking at a wall trying to process the fact that my favourite character died. Then I walked around the house going “Finnick died. Finnick died. Finnick died.” No I wasn’t possessed but I bet my dad thought so. After 10 minutes of contemplating whether I should continue watching or not while eating some ice cream to calm my senses I decided that yes, I will finish the movie (for Finnick)

i used to HATE the ending to mockingjay just because i have horrible memories of epilogues (harry potter, austin & ally) u all can @ me but they sucked. i hadnt watched mockingjay since i saw it in theaters almost 4 or 5 years ago. so i rewatched the entire series during quarantine and i fucking loved it. i physically had to work up the courage to watch the epilogue, but holy shit in the last like 10 or 5 seconds when peeta looks at katniss-that GOT ME and i started crying lmaoooo im also really happy that katniss & peeta didnt name their kids after everyone who died (harry potter. if my name was albus severus potter girl id abort myself) yeah their names arent said but i remember reading it was willow & rye, which for them is honestly really cute
It probably has to do with your age. I've noticed older Hunger Games fans (above 20 when the book came out) tend to like Mockingjay better than younger Mockingjay fans.

tldr; movie katniss should have had more visible scars and injuries like in the book to show how much she’s been through. I kind of have a problem with how little they focused on Katniss' internal struggles. For example, it's a little thing, but I sort of wish they'd kept up with Katniss' injuries and outer appearance in the movie and made her look like she was described in the book as time went on. I feel like it would've shown just how much she's been through, at least physically. What I mean by that is, I ultimately wished they didn't try to make her look so pretty. I mean, of course J Law is beautiful and it's, at times, a plot point that Katniss is all "done-up" for filming like when she's shooting Coin on television. But I remember when reading the books, the image Suzanne Collins described of Katniss by Mockingjay part 2 was almost what one would say is a bit "grotesque" or "gruesome." I get these were big hollywood gold mines and they couldn't make her look "disgusting" by having gore or anything like that, but by the time Katniss is at the end of the war, the book says she's got so many mismatched burn scars from being so close to the firing blasts (I think hijacked peeta even comments on her being ugly), she has scars on her body from the previous games and from her time at 13 and the war, her hair is a bit lifeless, her skin is supposed to be turning slightly yellow from taking in so much morphine, she's said to have lost a lot of weight due to not taking care of herself because she's so traumatized, and in the book she was whipped across the face instead of slapped/punched during the movie whipping scene where Gale was being whipped in the town square, thus giving her a scar on her face too. Idk, I know it would be a lot for the effects department to keep up with, but I feel like seeing her physical injuries would've added some impact, like oh yeah, this "teenage" girl has been through 2 hunger games, has been hunting all her life, and has gone through a revolution. Like in the book, it said something along the lines of it taking hours of makeup and glam by her capital team to make her look just normal, like herself. Even if they didn't do that, maybe if they showed more scenes of her experiencing PTSD. Like in the book, she would constantly run away, as a teen may do in this situation, and she would hide away in supply closets or like her own hiding places to get away from everyone. Maybe even just a scene of her rocking back and forth to show she's not as stable as she might've been before. Like I know it's a movie and they have to get the plot moving, but showing her with a happy ending, in the movie, lost some traction for me, because a lot of times in the movies, Katniss just seemed to bounce back from things, or if she had Peeta, all was immediately well again. Cus tbh, book mockingjay part 1 and 2 katniss was going off the edge, she was legit going crazy. done going off \_{ 'u' )_/

Oisky Poisky The only true "love triangle" I've seen is in She's The Man - Viola likes Duke, Duke likes Olivia, Olivia likes Viola when V's pretending to be a guy. Silly, stupid movie but I still absolutely love it. Even though some parts make me cringe on the whole I can't help but laugh and enjoy it. One of my faves from that time period.
Fun fact: My best friend “accidentally” spoiled this movie for me. At the time I was a major fan and she saw the movie before me. She got mad that I liked Peta and Katness together so she spilled the ending.
I remember reading the last book when I was 11 and the lines "And when Peeta asks 'You love me. Real or not real?' I tell him, 'Real'." and just DYING. The movies are pretty close to the books and that's why I love the Hunger Games so much. I didn't completely hate Gale until I read the books and realized that Katniss would've gone back for Finnick. Gale shouted at her, telling her that everyone was dead so Katniss didn't go back. 2 sentences after that, Katniss sees that Finnick is still alive, but it's too late to save him. I was sooo angry, because there was a chance to save Finnick, and Katniss was willing to take it, but Gale held her back....
The first movie wasn't quite as faithful of an adaption but, starting with Catching Fire it was way closer to what happens in the books. I love both versions. The movies let you see more of what's happening outside of Katniss' head because the books are only told through her POV so it made it interesting to see the story in a movie format. Can I just say that Finnick’s death was sad but I feel like it was necessary. What I like about the Hunger Games is that you can’t save everyone and has realistic experiences in both the movies and the books. Finnick’s death was quick and although sad, gives people the mindset of not being able to save everyone in time and those are the hardships of war.

I remember not liking the ending with the kids after I finished the series cause I thought katniss *didn't need a boy to live her life* but now I'm realizing peeta's the last constant she has after everything she's been through. TWO hunger games AND the revolution AND seeing so many of her loved ones and people she trusted die? and going through that as a TEENAGER? like, fuck, I can't imagine her mental state after all that. peeta's literally the only source of comfort she's had through all of this, and now I can see why she stayed with him.
also finnick was probably my favorite character in the book/movie and having to re-live his death again made me sad

Yep. And her mother (who'd already checked out emotionally before, leaving Katniss the provider and carer of the family) left for another district and didn't seem to want her daughter around after Prim's death. Haymitch was around but he was a drunk with his own issues and he and Katniss butted heads. Peeta is literally the only stable constant in her life from before, during and after the games as well as the revolution.
And if we have to go there, I honestly thought Peeta was a better match for her all round after the first games - maybe not before but definitely after.

I absolutely love this whole trilogy. This is so much more than the typical ya novels. It was sad yet so satisfying. Although Prim died who was the primary motivation of Katniss to sacrifice herself, I loved how Prim herself grown so much. She became another Katniss and kept helping people. This is the best aspect of the book and movie. The book is more depressing but I am okay with the movie being little light. The time katniss and peeta sat by the door watching rain is my absolute favorite scene.

To be fair, I think the reason he died so abruptly in the book was to show that war doesn't give you time to process your emotions or mourn the dead. You just have to suck it up and keep fighting so their death isn't in vain.

Watching the movie tho made me lose my shit and I did sorta break like I had to pause it for 5 minutes while just looking at a wall trying to process the fact that my favourite character died. Then I walked around the house going “Finnick died. Finnick died. Finnick died.” No I wasn’t possessed but I bet my dad thought so. i used to HATE the ending to mockingjay just because i have horrible memories of epilogues (harry potter, austin & ally) u all can @ me but they sucked. i hadnt watched mockingjay since i saw it in theaters almost 4 or 5 years ago. so i rewatched the entire series during quarantine and i fucking loved it. i physically had to work up the courage to watch the epilogue, but holy shit in the last like 10 or 5 seconds when peeta looks at katniss-that GOT ME and i started crying lmaoooo

It probably has to do with your age. I've noticed older Hunger Games fans (above 20 when the book came out) tend to like Mockingjay better than younger Mockingjay fans.

tldr; movie katniss should have had more visible scars and injuries like in the book to show how much she’s been through.
I kind of have a problem with how little they focused on Katniss' internal struggles. For example, it's a little thing, but I sort of wish they'd kept up with Katniss' injuries and outer appearance in the movie and made her look like she was described in the book as time went on. I feel like it would've shown just how much she's been through, at least physically. What I mean by that is, I ultimately wished they didn't try to make her look so pretty. I mean, of course J Law is beautiful and it's, at times, a plot point that Katniss is all "done-up" for filming like when she's shooting Coin on television. But I remember when reading the books, the image Suzanne Collins described of Katniss by Mockingjay part 2 was almost what one would say is a bit "grotesque" or "gruesome." I get these were big hollywood gold mines and they couldn't make her look "disgusting" by having gore or anything like that, but by the time Katniss is at the end of the war, the book says she's got so many mismatched burn scars from being so close to the firing blasts (I think hijacked peeta even comments on her being ugly), she has scars on her body from the previous games and from her time at 13 and the war, her hair is a bit lifeless, her skin is supposed to be turning slightly yellow from taking in so much morphine, she's said to have lost a lot of weight due to not taking care of herself because she's so traumatized, and in the book she was whipped across the face instead of slapped/punched during the movie whipping scene where Gale was being whipped in the town square, thus giving her a scar on her face too. Idk, I know it would be a lot for the effects department to keep up with, but I feel like seeing her physical injuries would've added some impact, like oh yeah, this "teenage" girl has been through 2 hunger games, has been hunting all her life, and has gone through a revolution. Like in the book, it said something along the lines of it taking hours of makeup and glam by her capital team to make her look just normal, like herself.
Even if they didn't do that, maybe if they showed more scenes of her experiencing PTSD. Like in the book, she would constantly run away, as a teen may do in this situation, and she would hide away in supply closets or like her own hiding places to get away from everyone. Maybe even just a scene of her rocking back and forth to show she's not as stable as she might've been before. Like I know it's a movie and they have to get the plot moving, but showing her with a happy ending, in the movie, lost some traction for me, because a lot of times in the movies, Katniss just seemed to bounce back from things, or if she had Peeta, all was immediately well again. Cus tbh, book mockingjay part 1 and 2 katniss was going off the edge, she was legit going crazy.

The first movie wasn't quite as faithful of an adaption but, starting with Catching Fire it was way closer to what happens in the books. I love both versions. The movies let you see more of what's happening outside of Katniss' head because the books are only told through her POV so it made it interesting to see the story in a movie format.

Can I just say that Finnick’s death was sad but I feel like it was necessary. What I like about the Hunger Games is that you can’t save everyone and has realistic experiences in both the movies and the books. Finnick’s death was quick and although sad, gives people the mindset of not being able to save everyone in time and those are the hardships of war.
