hi, good work as always, I just wish u explain some stuff that needs explaining (in not saying to say the 90" is 90" when clearly we can see it) in all your videos. like this one. when u just do stuff without saying anything in subtitle I feel detached and get bored in the middle, thanks

This bloke demonstrates not only his ability as a wood worker but other things like. 1) an incredibly clean workspace. He must actually put tools away when finished. 2) He measures things carefully. And 3). He takes his time, he doesn’t rush. (Haste makes waste). Rushing at a job, I have found has lead me “down the rabbit hole” of screw ups and wasted material.

You are spot on with JSK. I started woodworking when I was 10 yrs old in my grampa's shop. He taught me from an early age to keep a tidy work space and through out the day to put things back if your done with a particular tool. This way nothing gets lost. Back then, 50yrs ago, we swept as we went( a few times throughout a build), and we never buried fasteners or small hand tools in shavings that would then be put into a garbage bin. I take it a step further and if I know I've dropped fasteners into the sawdust around my bench, I run a handheld magnet tool I made over the pile and once retreived the dust goes in the bin. I also use the shavings and saw dust around my blueberry bushes so I don't want my grandkids stepping on anything sharp when the pick berries. I can still smell the cherry tobacco grampa smoked in his briar pipe he made himself. He was a cabinet and furniture maker by trade.

Mr. Koubou is truly the Master SAMURAI of Carpentry. I was preparing to build a heavy timber work bench and he just completely talked me out of it with this excaliber design. I will be buying this plan right away. He has already influenced changes on my drill press set up and my 6.5" wide Makita Planer to employ his jig plans. I am so delighted to have found his web site. He is truly an amazingly gifted man and a blessing to one and all, and proves to all that "perfection is truly the enemy of good enough."

Just a little note for those looking for subtitles. There are English subtitles, but you need to select English using the gear wheel menu-they default to Japanese if you just click "CC".
This would be very expensive to reproduce, but the point is to highlight the design choices made to create an ultra-sturdy, versatile workbench.
The top is made from glue-laminated wood, so wood movement shouldn't be too much of a problem. Despite that, he still included adjustments for wood movement in the top ( 17:20).
The numerous holes in the top are for bench dogs to hold wood in position while it is being worked.
The number and pattern of holes allows for a wide range of sizes and shapes of pieces to be braced. I expect he will demonstrate this versatility in future videos.
A superb effort! Obviously out of the price range for a lot of people, but many great ideas and concepts. I'd love to know where the aluminum frames were sourced, just for daydreaming purposes!
Thank you for another fascinating workshop project.

Excellent build! One suggestion, however, for those who wish to make one of these for themselves. People often load up deep drawers with large, heavy objects. As a result, I’d recommend cutting a narrow dado in the deep drawer sides to capture the drawer bottom, as it will hold up better in the long run than a butt joint. Cheers.

I know what you mean by "sick" -- like "bad", meaning "good or awesome. However, you could be misunderstood ! I once wrote in a comment "Poor devils" -- about good people working under miserable conditions, and a viewer "rebuked " me.. By the way, I'm from Egypt but living in the United States; so I've learnt a little bit of slang and nuances of the English language as used by native speakers.
As for this workbenches, JSK-koubou has once again produced another masterpiece of Japanese craftsmanship 👍👍!

I really enjoy watching your ideas, you must produce it, know someone really really good or spend a fortune in aluminum extrusion. I can barely scrape up the money to buy one small piece. But this thing is beautiful believe me when I say, build this beauty some better drawer boxes that will do it justice. I don’t mean this as a knock, I love your work, plus I know on a project like this there’s nothing wrong with taking quicker steps to get it functional to make room for more important things. All in all I love this!
