Something that should be a recall by Toyota. Why should a plastic part crack that’s not directly in the weather? This guy is wicked Smaht and very generous to share his knowledge with us. Thank you!
Those emissions codes are tricky. Not a lot of shops here in Miami have a smoke machine. We don’t require to pass emissions test. I’ve been a mechanic for about 10 years and I just learned something new. Love your vids really informative
I want to thank you for the videos, especially the 99 camry. I needed to change out overfill check valve it helped a lot. The code was a 0446 but the canister is new gas cap is new, so after the fix if it comes back on what should I look for also has new hoses.
I am replacing the Fuel Tank on my 03 corolla. I dropped the exhaust by undoing the Rubber Bushings at the rear Muffler and had enough room to pull the heat sheil and tank out. Great video. Thank you for the dielectric grease Tip on the Check valve install.
Very cool of you to post this. The time lapse, as well as showing your frustrating moments, really helps make this an outstanding video. Some say disconnect fuel pump leads under rear seat prior to dropping the tank. Because you really only drop the rear, is it ok to disregard that? Thanks.
On the matrix, there's no need to take off exhaust. Removing the protective plate and the 2 back straps of the gas tank gives you plenty of room. Still use a jack to hold the gas tank when it lowers.
Did this on 02 sienna and made my p0441, p0442 and p0446 go away. I did replace all the rubber hoses on top of gas tank and back to charcoal canister along with new clips.
Welp, Many of my vacuum lines were cracked and brittle. I've replaced all vacuum lines and purge valves (above the engine and on the canister) and a P0442 still comes back. A P0440 went away. This check valve is the only thing in the system left to replace. It's a 20 year old V6 Camry. Mechanic said he found no leaks but one other hose I didn't see was cracked. I guess it's worth a shot but will have a mechanic do it.
I just took out the two bolts on the straps holding up the back part of the fuel tank lowered it with a hydraulic jack and popped it out that's all I took off took maybe 15 minutes
Awesome video, going to change the valve on my 03 corolla next weekend. Don't really know if thats the problem for my po440 code but I do smell gas fumes after a long drive. Hopefully this will fix the issue
good job bruddah, what generally goes bad with trans. solenoids on 2005 corollas. mine turns the cel light on every now and then. I'm a Ford tech so I'm not familiar with the common failures on toyotas
as always angel your videos help many people, I have a 2003 corolla with p0442 and p0446 you think it's the same as this corolla, it smells like gas and sometimes the engine turns off in a light, what do you think and thank you very much for these videos
Any idea what the part number is for the plastic fuel tank vent hose the connects from the check valve to the evap canister that was a pain to take off? Mine is leaking at the o ring connection. Thanks. Great video.
thx for that great video...any drum brakes and what size air compressor tank I need to buy...not to big just small and reliable.... to do the work...thx

Have you had this problem on an 05 rav4? Im getting a p0442 code on my rav4 and I'm having a difficult time fixing it. I've replaced gas cap already with factory gas cap and no fix. Thank you.
Hello I had this code about a month ago and figured it was just the gas cap so I cleared the code, then it came back about a week later, then I cleared it again. It hasn't come back on, but now my corolla is starting but immediately stalling if I don't give it gas when it starts. Once I hold the gas for a bit, it manages to idle fine but I was wondering if this code, or anything related to it could be the issue. Thank you :)
hi Dalton, i think the problem is you IAC. Idle Air Control Valve. You can try to clean your throttle body to see if the engine idles consistently. Also check for any pending codes with the scan tool.

One more thing, when I inject the smoke machine, I show the smoke come out from air inlet pipe at the the end of fuel neck, not only from gas tank. Is that normal? Thanks. Thanks
@@agungwibawaAR15 hello, yes that is normal. close it with the fuel cap. did you clamp the hose on the charcoal canister? that open hose has to be clamped so no smoke comes out of it.
The codes on the Toyota Corolla are very tricky. Well, my 04 Corolla I have been dealing with this same code P0171 for almost 4 years and I have already changed spark plugs. coils. manifold gasket. oxygen sensors up and down. fuel injectors and that code keeps appearing.
Question! Do you think this part would be cracked if when I open the tank there is positive pressure? If the gas cap makes a pressure noise in my 03 sequoia do you think it's likely that it's this part that is cracked ?
No, they aren't related. P0420 is for catalyst efficiency below threshold. Could be a dead or dirty catalytic converter, the O2 sensors, or exhaust leaks, among other things.
I know your question is from two years ago, but for anyone reading this who also wants to know, the answer is no. P0420 usually has nothing to do with P0442.
Update: I first ended up changing my gasoline tank that had a hole in it. That didn't clear the code but needed to replace the tank anyway. I then installed a new charcoal canister and the light finally came off.
Hey brother, sorry for the late reply. Yes I will try to put up a video. I just saw a video in RUclips and I just figured what parts to buy. And it works.
What a mother to just get to and then replace. Something all for anti-pollution causing so much grief.

Do you have the link for fuel check valve and the gasket?
can you plastic weld the check valve where its cracked? or after its cracked, its no longer good?
Is this Corolla same part# with the 03 pontiac vibe?
What is the exact name for that electric power tool you used to take out those two bolts before the brass punch.

Would this code not let the car start?
what about your P0420? im assuming this only fixed the evap code?
yes it only fixed the evap code. p0420 is for the catalytic converter. the catalytic converter was replaced and code didn't come back on
Will this same code apply to a 2002 Tacoma?
I have a question. How much do you charge for that repair? And do you mechanic work on other people vehicles?
You can do this work in my corolla 2004 ?
I have the same code but I get fuel smell with car running. Also o2 sensor voltage says fail on scanner should I replace o2 sensor first?
The piece you changed What are the faults caused?
Not for the faint of heart!
where did you buy that tint from?
So cool
Is this the original name for this part "Overfill check valve"?
I looked for it on RockAuto and O'Reily auto parts, can't found it.

Same codes on my2006 sienna. Cat is too expensive in California.

This is to much work. I'm okay with my check engine light illuminating.
Wont pass emissions testing if your state requires it.

Getting the same code, don’t know how diagnose problem as accurate though.
Get a smoke test
You could have tryd tapping on the part, cleared the code and told the customer to stop over filling the tank...
Tape?? Wrapping tape around it will definitely not work. Better off to replace it. Why did you tape it before?
you wanna come help me if your in the Fresno CA area.....
