I can't get over how magnetic Salma's personality is. Her tenacity and enthusiasm are so visible when she's praising Mary. It makes you realize how humble she is even with her extensive acting experience. Watching these two women have a genuine conversation with zero ego and real insight brings realistic aspirations of how I want to be as I interact with others, especially women. God bless this series.
Mary J. Blige and Salma Hayek... they are the perfect combination. two beautiful, smart and strong women and artists. good job Variety for teaming these actresses together, and thank you for this very interesting conversation! PS: I really hope MJB gets an award for "Mudbound".
These is a genuine conversation, it is interesting to hear them both identify their experiences with acting. They both listen equally to es h other, but I’m obsessed with Salma Hayek, I relate to her so much.
MIKEY MELANIN KING FIRST Carry your weird ass! You was just on another video of MJB talking cold shit about her. Now you're here on a different video praising her. You are one weird fuck! Seek help IMMEDIATELY!
I love how supportive and engaged Selma is with Mary! I think Mary still struggled with the acceptance of her brilliance! Selma is, to me, like soft butter!
Mary J., Salma...you two ladies show that it's possible for two dynamic females to be poised, intellectual, open- minded, generous, and soul-bearing. Love the inspiration! And much thanks to you both for that!!! 🤗💟💞
Mary been with you from the beginning of the first musical note .. but now as a actress you make us even more proud.. walk in your sunlight always ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wonderful to be able to listen to these two strong women talking about acting, and being a woman, and a minority in a country with rising racisme. One of the best interviews I have seen. They are so clever and I love how they talk about their experiences. Love what Salma says about how much an older woman can share because then you have learned so much and become more yourself, she is so right. Many roles are of young women in love with an older man, dominated, pleasing, because it is about the man and she only has to be young and pretty ( not the best actrices by the way). That while women who are older are stronger, more secure, more beautiful, and they have a story to tell. But than it is not anymore about the men, what they want or need . Time that it changes, also to empower the young generatie that need these strong older women to look up to, and understand what being beautiful mean.
I gotta watch _Mudbound_ this week. From the looks of everything I am seeing so far, Mary is getting that Oscar nod come January. Love the queen. She's come a mighty long way. 👑👑👑👑👑
Mary was so good in Mudbound, I did not know that it was her until today. I didn't read the credits after the movie, and was pleasantly surprized to realize today, that there is another awesome level to her.
very powerful interview, who ever put these two together did a phenomenal job. this interview inspired me in, so ways like being real, grounded, honest, moving, humility, poised, graceful and transforming me at the same time. WOW!!!!!!! GO LADIES
Mary was talking about how vulnerable she was, that she was in pain and processed this in her role as Florence. Salma somehow ignored this. I felt that Salma was trying to get answers she wanted to hea. I wish Salma was a bit more compassionate towards Mary.
I’m so happy for Mary because “Strength of a Woman” is an excellent album BUT “Mudbound” came right on time for people who didn’t appreciate the quality of that album. The Golden Globe nod is great news!
Sistars sharing from their roots and origins their multifaceted gifts and exposure to the light of who they are.......deep respect .........Namaste....
She’s definitely NY, very Yonkers but like most of us, our relatives are from the south. Every summer I went down south to a summer camp and visiting my grandparents. Very commonly, one or two generations of almost every black New Yorker’s family is probably from the south. Lol, especially the Carolinas :( lol
Lil Jay Mary IS beautiful but I've noticed all these actors on actors interviews have the black actors looking grey...like the Daniel Kaluuya interview
Wendy Williams did an aftershow to introduce her staff behind the camera. The lightning woman, who is White, stated that she must change the lighting when Wendy interviews Blacks, especially dark-skinned Blacks.ruclips.net/video/1zmdRtOLwtM/видео.html
Salma Hayek... omg... I couldn't watch Beatriz at dinner... not because it's bad but beacause it's so upseting the Donald Trump like Charachter ... all that tension ... I needed to watch it very quickly... few movies had make me do that... I think her performance was great .. like .. it really make me feel something.
This is the second one of these Variety Actor on Actor interviews I've seen and yet again I have found it to drive such unexpected interest in the actors' roles & films, and reach surprising levels of genuine depth of connection in conversation. These specially arranged Variety interviews are some gems right here. (FYI: My first one was Gal Gadot vs. Kumail Nanjiani.)
On Second thoughts. I stand by what i said before. I think the Black Race is definiatly going places. I expect in the future you will reach a level of existence that Trancends your insercurities. You will be in a place where you will not know any pain or drama. You will always be happy. I have always said that happiness is in the mind. there fore the promise land you seek will be in your minds. You will get there i assure you. You will know the peace and inner beauty you seek. I understand the hatred and pain you feel. I offer you and opporutinty to let go of the burden of consciousness. To be at one with yourself and others around you. I have walked in your shoes all my life. Life is hard and full of terrors. It has not been easy for you. You have fought hard and suffered much. You deserve a happy ending. One of eternal bliss. Don't be afraid of what the future holds for you. When you get there you will no even think or remember of the longing or need for the material world. You will be one with the universe. You will all find peace. The peace you have sought after for so long. No more pain. No more Drama. That's what you asked for you. I sincerely hope you get your wish.
I really think this is the best way for you to never ever give up. All you've ever wished for. You will have it all at once. Forever and ever. From birth to death. Always and forever.
p.s I'm not angry. I don't say this out of awe or hatred. I have heard your cries. You have struggled with the world of human kind of centuries. Each age offers new oppouritines and you end up at the losing end in all of them. It has been very very upsetting for you. When interviewed you simply seek love and acceptance. Respect from others and a fair reward for all your pain. Many have tried to sort this out but it seems tricky with regards to how to truly intergrate you into society. Even when succuess comes you still seem very unhappy. I personally don't like to see people suffer constantly. I offer help to relieve the pain and drama. I offer peace and comfort. So what say you?
Look there is no shame involved in this. I have often wanted to get off this planet not because of the way you treated me but because of the chaos spread around the world. So i am not mocking you. I am offering you (in effect) a personal dream of mine.
Mary J is so guarded that its hard to watch her interviews. Very awkward. Salma can disarm anyone, but you can tell it made Salma a little less light than the usually is
Mary J; has been through a lot of shit, yet, her frame of reference, ALWAYS seems to refer back to her very personal struggle. She's just not very interesting.....sorry. She is never able to, or willing, to talk about others in any significant way. I don't get the impression, that she reads much, if at all.
Salma Hayek is such a magnificent star. The perfect blend of humour, intelligence, class and talent.
I can't get over how magnetic Salma's personality is. Her tenacity and enthusiasm are so visible when she's praising Mary. Is it me or does Salma have the most truly beautiful accent you've ever heard? Mesmerising x
These is a genuine conversation, it is interesting to hear them both identify their experiences with acting. They both listen equally to es h other, but I’m obsessed with Salma Hayek, I relate to her so much.
Queen Mary is just growing and growing. Despite a public and nasty divorce, she still managed to do her role justice!
MIKEY MELANIN KING FIRST Carry your weird ass! You was just on another video of MJB talking cold shit about her. Now you're here on a different video praising her. You are one weird fuck! Seek help IMMEDIATELY!
"Nothing sexier in this world than talent" say that Selma! Love you both MJB & SH
i admire salma's eloquence and intelligence
The compassion in this interview... It is a breath of fresh air.
I love how supportive and engaged Selma is with Mary! I think Mary still struggled with the acceptance of her brilliance! Selma is, to me, like soft butter!
John Ward I agree :)
Omg she's like a sweet Sistar!!
I love and admire these 2 women immensely!
‘I’m Mexican, we get cold easy’. Preach it Salma! 😂
Childish lol

Mary and Selma....awesome ❤❤❤❤
Mary J. Blige is absolutely right about the "From dusk till dawn" reference. God, Salma is like a goddess in that scene. Like a work of art.
This was an exquisite conversation.
I gotta watch _Mudbound_ this week. From the looks of everything I am seeing so far, Mary is getting that Oscar nod come January. Love the queen. She's come a mighty long way. 👑👑👑👑👑
It was amazing and Mary was fantastic
She got 2! One for Supporting Actress and another for Original Song!
Told ya!!
Mary was so good in Mudbound, I did not know that it was her until today. I didn't read the credits after the movie, and was pleasantly surprized to realize today, that there is another awesome level to her.

"There is nothing sexier in this world than talent"
These two sound beautiful talking together. I wish all women could get along like this.
Mary was talking about how vulnerable she was, that she was in pain and processed this in her role as Florence. Salma somehow ignored this. I felt that Salma was trying to get answers she wanted to hea. I wish Salma was a bit more compassionate towards Mary.
This is an authentic conversation. God, I love how interested they are in each other and share so freely. Beautiful. ❤️Thank you so much _Variety_
I love their soulful connection.
Salma and Mary r both independent hard working queens
I love how Salma Hayek supports and encourages Mary.

Great interview
They are sooo beautiful! Both. I always found Mary super beautiful and grew up wanting to look like Salma.
Selma... omg. 51?! Whaaat?! Gorgeous. Super mature. Muah muah
I detest horror movies too
I’m so happy for Mary because “Strength of a Woman” is an excellent album BUT “Mudbound” came right on time for people who didn’t appreciate the quality of that album. The Golden Globe nod is great news!

Wow I didn't know Mary was so connected to the south always peg her as east coast girl
the south is east coast too
She’s definitely NY, very Yonkers but like most of us, our relatives are from the south. Every summer I went down south to a summer camp and visiting my grandparents. Very commonly, one or two generations of almost every black New Yorker’s family is probably from the south. Lol, especially the Carolinas :( lol
Heartbreaking towards the end when Mary touched on the deterioration of her marriage.😢
Yassss
Both of them are quite a marvelous actress/singer❤️❤️🙌🏼
The last words were the seal. "There's nothing sexier in this world than talent." That voice!!
MJB making history
Salma Hayek's voice is so nice.
Two goddesses. Enough said.
I truly believe that Salma always give her 100%, she is very passionate in what she do. She is just AMAZING! And very funny too

Salma hayek my alltime favourite lady..I love her...
I adore Selma Hayek
loved it . !
Big fan of both of u. Great artists.
Why is the lighting never right on the black actors??
Why ur trying make black women feel ugly! Mary looks beautiful
Yeah I don’t get what she means. There is only one lighting and I think it looks great on Mary. These two women are phenomenal and beautiful!
I turned up the brightness on my Macbook thinking THAT was the issue. I agree, she's not lit as well as possible here.
Lil Jay Mary IS beautiful but I've noticed all these actors on actors interviews have the black actors looking grey...like the Daniel Kaluuya interview

There needs to be a movie where these two women conquer the world.
Mudbound is a deep soulful movie, Mary was stunning in it
Talk about LUCK, I absolutely 💜 these two strong, intelligent, sexy ladies!!🌻💜🌻💜🌻💜🌻💜🌻💜🌻💜🌻💜🌻💜

Two real ones.

the issue of black people and good lighting is for real. can someone get better lights for Mary?
oh Thelma 😍😎😎😍
Is very disappointed how they didn't get Mary j Bilge, Viola davis and India Arie to play Nina Simone but picked zoe saldana and it was awful.
hey variety...
light the black actors better. way better.
thanks.
Yes, Mary stick to more dramatic roles, but singinno singing I gotta.
51 years old???????!!!! HONEY YOU LOOK 35 at best wtf???
She's gorgeous. And Mary is just a godess.
Salma is causing me to want to fall asleep, she speaks so slowly here for some reason. Looks gorgeous though.
she seems to be sick the way her voice sounds ,aybe she had a cold
She said she didn't sleep the night before, so that could be the problem, she was TIRED!
15:50 I think that explains it! :D
Also, speaking another language is not that easy.
Salma lives in 2 countries dumb fuk! Jet lag
you could be so much more.

Mary J is so guarded that its hard to watch her interviews. Very awkward. Salma can disarm anyone, but you can tell it made Salma a little less light than the usually is
So we are just going to all pretend like we don't see this mystical breeze lifting twirling her hair on some other stuff?
Mary J; has been through a lot of shit, yet, her frame of reference, ALWAYS seems to refer back to her very personal struggle. She's just not very interesting.....sorry. She is never able to, or willing, to talk about others in any significant way. I don't get the impression, that she reads much, if at all.
Her album titles are always predictable.
mary j I think is a bit intimidated by salma.
No...they known each other for years! I think Mary just new to the acting game! 1st major role and already getting nominated left and right! Go mary
9 grammy awards and two oscar noms, first person in history for acting and music. i don't think she can be intimidated.
:)
I'm sorry but the series is Actors on Actors......I only saw one actor in this video.
Blige doesn't seem to buy a single thing Hayek is insinuating. Diss of the century.
Wtf... They've know each other for years! Please stop trying to insinuate beef
A Frica you are a negative person.
Funniest shit I've read. I'm sorry but I'm not taking your shitty comment seriously
a frica -- what total BS on your part!
I love seeing this dialogue between these two talented women of color.
Great interview
