    Hey man, thanks for posting this. My wife's heater hasn't worked for a year now, I'm neither rich nor mechanically inclined, but I was able to go out there and check it after watching your video and find that the problem was the plastic gears, manually set them and get the heater working. Once I get the funds, I'll buy the replacement parts and get it fixed properly.

      Bob Lombardo hey bro wats it's the name of this plastic part?

  • @DarkDragonWing
    @DarkDragonWing  11 лет назад +1

    It's not the gears that get hard, it's the axle of one of the gears that gets hard. So there's this new gear design that will increase the lever strength as shown in the video.
    So yea, change them. It feels a lot better. And make sure that the line that pushes the gear is straight so that it will work. However, it works, but still a little bit hard to spin.
    For mine, even though I changed the gears, I sometime have to help turn the gears manually.

    What I do is I use my hand to help the knob push and pull the gear manually. You know you gotta have to stick your hand in there. For now.
    I might have to think for a better way because mine is getting harder too. I'll do a video if I can think of a way.

    Awesome I wonder why Mitsubishi never recalled this. I guess not considered a safety issue (but it is when it gets cold). My knob broke off and is worn down to a small nub that wont turn with needle nose pliers anymore any idea where and how to get it installed?

    • @DarkDragonWing
      @DarkDragonWing  10 лет назад

      Thanks. If I were you, I would go to ebay.com and search for a used "Lancer climate control." You know, it seems that the whole control needs to be changed if the knob can't be changed individually.

    Oh sorry, I don't any experience on that part yet. For now I would say if it has a lot of miles on it, it could be because of bad connection of the battery or maybe the starter, too.
    Anyhow, I hope you will find the real cause of this problem.

    Hey thanks for the reply back, your videos are very helpful. Thought it might of been a vent door that was stuck but it was actually low on Freon even though it felt pretty cold so I just decided to try and add one can of Freon and it worked perfect.

    hey man, great video, I learned a lot from it. I have a couple of questions though. Will that gear set lever work on a 2002 Mitsubishi lancer? The ones I have are the ones from the factory and I don't know if this part will work on my vehicle. The other one is, that one crank you pointed out with the thing sticking out, just by itself, without the parts that crank it from cold to hot gets kind of hard to turn once it gets around the middle. Now, the heater control wire that I have is crooked so I'm tracking it needs to be replaced. Any advise you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

      tater 1. it will fit on your 02 lancer2. you cab bend it back straight or you can replace it ( I bent mine back straight and I still use my hand to manually turn the gears from time to time)Cheers

  • @MrTerrence777

    Also the turn knob of the air conditioning is stuck. Does that mean the A/C unit is mechanically broken inside or is it just the lever switches is tight. Or not loosened. Do I need to replace the A/C unit. Please reply back. Thanks.

    • @DarkDragonWing
      @DarkDragonWing  10 лет назад

      The gears inside the whole thing are bad. What most people do is change the outside gears, like in the video, and try to use it often so that it is easier to turn.
      For me, if it get stuck and the knob couldn't move the gears, I would use my left hand to manually reach in to move the gears, and use my right hand to turn the knob.
      To really fix the whole thing can be expensive, but you can try, I don't really know about it.

      The DarkDragonWing my man, i realized that my gears are new ones. Perhaps someone changed it before me as it is a second hand car. Anyway, the reason why my knob gets stuck is the cable which keeps on getting bent on the upper side (close to the knob's connector).
      1) Do you think replacing the cable will solve it?
      2) The thing (reel?) that you spin at 0:35 does it turn easily without hurting your fingers? Mine is a little hard but I can turn it and I am afraid that it is making the cable bent

    Hey dude, i have trouble with the middle gear. I bought the genuine replacements and switched out the old ones, seems like the small round gear in between them is the problem and it is too tight for the replacement gears to twist. Is there a way I can loosen this?

    I got a question, this happened to mine, but i think its the little wheel with teeth that the gears connect to that is really hard to spin. My gears for the most part look fine.They have all the teeth. Or is it that I should just change out the gears.

  • @MaenAbdulhaq
    @MaenAbdulhaq 2 года назад

    I think the problem is related to the cable rather than the plastic gears, my gears are working and rolling fine but the cable keeps on getting twisted which means in cannot withstand the compression force that is running through it.

      Use your hand to turn the gear under the dash for now.
      Here is a video that will show you: How to fix a stuck heater control knob- EVO - Boosted Films
      PS. I don't know if changing the wire will work well. I'm guessing it will end up kinked again.
      What I did is I bent it back straight and put it back in like at 10:03 it looks pretty straight there and it will work just fine.
      Though, it is now winter snow (very cold) in Minnesota and the knob is even harder to turn, so now my wire is kinked again. I'm using my hand to turn the gear.
      I will work on it more and find a better solution for it.
      Let me know how your new wire turn out!

    @DarkDragonWing great great great video, but I have a question, why the new gears have different shape? the hole shape is different now, it was an issue with the original design?

    • @DarkDragonWing
      @DarkDragonWing  8 лет назад

      Hi. Thanks! Yes, Mitsubishi made a new design to help turn it. Though, this is not the real fix, this will only help. The reason why the knob is hard to turn is because of the main shaft that all these gears are trying to turn. It is called the blend door. It is a simple part, but to get to it means taking apart the whole dashboard assembly.

    • @leocastro75
      @leocastro75 8 лет назад +1

      oh I see...and once you get to the blend door, is it something that can be done to fix it completely?

  • @XavierRivera128

    I just did this but it's still hard... I figure the problem is where the circular gear is, and after I get that gear out I see a rubber sealant with the white plastic thing with a rectangle in the center (where the circular gear connects with it). I cant take that thing out, tried using needle nose pliers but it just slips all the time... is that something I should fix on my own? You got an idea on how to fix this issue when it isnt as simple as just replacing the parts in your video?
    Thanks ahead of time. And yes, you are awesome for putting up these lancer videos xD.

    • @DarkDragonWing
      @DarkDragonWing  10 лет назад

      Mine got better and better as I continue using it. I know the first times using it is almost impossible to use just use the knob to turn the gears. I used both hand to turn it. One hand under the dash on the gear lever, and another on the knob turning. I only had to do this for a little while, and then it got easier. So I only have to turn the knob, no need to turn the gears anymore.
      For fixing the whole thing like you're doing now, I would have done the same thing, but only if it really needs to be fixed. So I don't know. If you go that way I probably don't have much knowledge about it.
      cheers
