We moved house last year and we finally have all of our IKEA wardrobe bits here, dismantled yesterday and already know so many of my clothing items won’t be going back into the new one. I’m going to try and sell as much as I can and donate the rest, so excited to be organised. Your wardrobe has been very inspiring!

Your sewing machine is great! I wish I had one as I love transforming clothing. My mother has got some of my jesns turned into skirts, and I'd love to learn how to do it by myself. I love this kind of content, lovely advice that encourages us to enjoy what we already have! 👏👏👏👏😍

What a great subject. My mother used to do all my repairs and she would do them immediately. Unfortunately, she is no more... but I learned from her and the moment I see an item that needs repair, I do it right away. I absolutely dislike it when things pile up. As for folding vertically... what a revelation! I have done it for the past few years.... should have done it ages ago! Most of my sweaters (jumpers in your language) are hand-knit, and I used to stack them on a shelf. The weight of the top ones would flatten the bottom ones. Super annoying! Now I have them in drawers just like yours and they make for great organization and no creases either. Also, I purchase a soap of my favorite fragrance and grate a little bit of it in each drawer. It keeps the bugs away and my clothes smell nice. BTW, I love your debobbler! What a great design. Thanks for sharing the information.

Two things that have changed my life: "debobblers" and the Kondo folding method! I have very deep (vertically) drawers so I have adapted the fold so that my clothing is "higher" and everything fits nice and snug and is still visible. The only thing I don't Kondo fold is knitwear, which I flat fold, horizontally stacked on a shelf in my closet--in my particular setup it saves WAY more room than storing them in drawers. tl;dr take the basic idea and adapt it to your space!

I am the same i like having things organised and put back where they are after used. I hate a messy home and cluttered rooms. If something not use or worn in a few years i toss or donate. Even dishes they have to be done before going to bed. I like waking up to a clean house. The de bobble equipment looks great I haven’t come across in purchasing. Shoe storage I don’t like to have them display in the bedrooms. Unless occasionally wear them i clean and store in boxes. Rather to store them downstairs in storage. And everyday use i store them by the door.

  • @rachaeljones5767

De bobbling is always a job I hate but once it's done is so satisfying and stops me from re buying too many jumpers . I got one the clothes folding band wagon (marie kondo) about three years ago and never looked back after a really good downsizing of my entire wardrobe and footwear. You can see what you have and find it so much easier , and I find I wear my clothes more having less . Plus my no.1 rule is if I want something new in my wardrobe I will have a sort out that season to make room for it , that way I never have have to many clothes in my wardrobe - less is definitely more xx

Thanks for the tips, a January wardrobe refresh is a great idea. I need to take some of my summer shoes into the cobbler for repairs and tune-ups. They’ve been sitting in my garage for the whole of the pandemic, but I want them to be ready to wear this spring. I also need to purge the synthetic-fiber blend items from my wardrobe, they are just so uncomfortable to wear; they feel icy when I put them on, then they overheat me. I’m going to stick to 100% natural fibers (plus the rayon/lyocell family) from now on. Another of my wardrobe resolutions is to stop browsing fast-fashion sites when I’m bored because I always end up buying things.

I remove comfortable but worn-out items from my wardrobe to use as painting clothes and store them in a drawer in my garage. I really only need one hot weather and one cold weather outfit because it might be years before I do a little touch-up painting. I just don’t want to see them all the time in with my regular clothes. This is also a good time to catch up on ironing because it’s cold. I don’t want to iron much on hot summer days!

My wardrobe is currently so sad. I got some good pieces last year when lockdown was lifting in NYC but with weight gain and complete body type change (from working out) I have had to start from square 1. Also I now have a professional office job so I want to look nice these days - retiring the sweats from 2020 haha. I try to do 1 in 1 out but again with my body type being on the curvier and short side sometimes I buy something and love it because it fits at first and then start to wish I got something slightly different (that doesn't offer a petite or curvy size).

I had a good clothes de clutter about three years ago (there are some good video's to watch on here about it) . Once you are felling better or get help from a friend - get every item of clothing out your wardrobe / draws and put them on the bed ( its amazing how much will be there) .... then say to yourself - do I really need all this / will I wear all this ?? .... then I WILL DOWNSIZE - Keep what you really love & what makes you feel great wearing it , if you've not worn it say a couple of years ago or it doesn't fit - sell / donate or throw away if it's well worn . Once that's done organise where things will go once it's been folded , also only keep a few hangers and get rid of the rest so you are not tempted to buy clothes to fill them ...... Good Luck xx

Sorry, Emma, but Marie Kondo was not the first folding vertically! I fold everything vertically for more than 20 years! Yes, twenty! You can maximize space and see everything you have in seconds. My daughter is almost 24 and was taught to do that way. A few months ago she told me that people were talking about the Marie Kondo method and she said she's doing it since she was a little girl. They're surprised but she explained how I fold her clothes since always. I do the debobble not just on knitwear, also my thermals, winter socks, etc.. Love your channel! 😘🙏

Vertical folding is amazingly practical, but it works only if you have drawers. I only have three small drawers for my underwear, socks and bras, and the rest is really tall shelves, which I can’t change, because I’m renting. So do you guys have any practical ideas how to best organize those?

If you are using the shelves for folding then horizontal folding would be OK as you will be able to see it all from the front. Vertical works perfectly for drawers as with it folded horizontally you can't see what you have 👍

If you fold things verticaly.. when you have taken out about half of your items, will they still stand up verticaly? Or will they just collapse and make everything a mess again...

It will really depend. I find that things like jeans have been fine but items not as structured may start to collapse. Although that being said I very rarely have more than half the items out of a drawer at once as by that point items have been washed and returned to the drawer 👍 so it will really depend on the item and rotation ❤️

We're building a wardrobe in our extra room. Question, do you have some clothing items still in your bedroom or are all your clothes in the wardrobe room? Thank you for the inspiration.

I do have some loungewear and nightwear in 2 drawers at the bottom of the bed but aside from that everything is in here 👍

Hi Emma, great video! I literally spent my morning reorganizing my wardrobe. Random question: what color wash are the Totême jeans I saw when you were showing the folding hack? I want to order a pair in that same color. Thanks!

Actually, Linda Koopersmith published a book in 2005 based on her real-life organization business called The Beverly Hills Organizer's Bible and SHE came LONG before the Marie Kondo madness and showed the vertical book-style folding method. Marie Kondo copied her.

Hi Emma! Thank you so much for all your amazing content! A question. I finally started organizing and consciously going through my wardrobe and find that nothing there that I love. There are things that are ok, but none that I say i love or thing that i look really good in. So, what wd be you tips for this desperate situation? Wd love a video for us beginners!

As I mention in the video I would sort through them into a few different categories (maybe things that are definitely going, things that can stay short term and things that may stay). Then from there you can sell some items (or donate them) and start to replace pieces over time with items that you love. It will take some time (obviously don't get rid of everything all at once and be left with no clothes 😂 🙈🤣) but it will be worth it in the end. ❤️
